Keane Refuses to Be Drawn on Shittu Monday, 14th Sep 2009 11:03
Town boss Roy Keane has refused to comment on reports linking Bolton centre-half Danny Shittu with a move to Portman Road. Keane is looking to add two loanees to his squad, but won’t have secured the signings before Tuesday’s home game against his former club Nottingham Forest.
At this morning’s press conference ahead of the Forest game, Keane wouldn’t be drawn on the widespread national newspaper reports claiming that Shittu is amongst his loan targets: “I certainly won’t comment on players at other football clubs, there’s no chance of me doing that.
“There’s lots of stuff in newspapers every single day and if I was to comment on every player we’ve been linked with over the summer, I’d be chatting to you far too often.”
The Blues boss, showing little sign of feeling any pressure despite Town’s lowly league position, says that the new additions could be at Portman Road by the weekend: “I’m still very hopeful. There’ll be a few more calls over the next few days and fingers crossed we can get one or two more into the club.
“There’s still one or two areas I think we’re short in, people can second guess where that might be, but the staff and myself are working extremely hard to try and bring one or two players into the club.
“But if it doesn’t happen we’ll persevere with the decent lads I’ve got here who are giving everything they’ve got for the football club, but are just coming up a bit short at the moment.”

To be fair, RK said that he aimed to get us promoted within two years. Its a bit early to be panicking.

i would be delighted to have Shittu in the team. forwards need to build a bypass to go round him! He's the type of no-nonsense defender we need. then just a no-nonsense goalscorer as well and things will be fine

I heard on the coach up to Middlesborough that Danny Shittu is meant to be coming as he has spoke to the club, I think this could be a done deal by the weekend, let's hope the other player is Mr David Healy!

dirtyding - correct! The answer to the mess we are in is get rid of Keane. It doesn't matter who we get in, Keane will put the fear of God into them and destroy any confidence or self-belief that they have. I've decide to nickname Keane 'The Terminator' because of his disasterous tactics and the distinct impression he creates that he is on a mission to destroy everything that is great about ITFC. I wonder how long it will be before he turns into 'The Running Man'? Hopefully very soon! I've heard of a cuckoo in the nest but this is ridiculous! Or maybe a lot of you on here think I am the proverbial cuckoo! I shout for the lads week in, week out but never have any real expectation of winning. Until Keane goes that will not change.

Blimey, it's a good job that a certain Mr R Robson got more than ten games to prove himself as a manager...

If we're bringing in all these players isn't it about time we offload one or two to put some money back in the kitty? I still have nightmares over the fact we declined a £1M offer from Boro on deadline day for Gary Mac, and I suspect his display against them on saturday will all but end the chance of a 2nd bid in January .. I counted 12 first team midfielders at the club, which is insane, no wonder we can't get any stability or consitency, it clearly effects the players. Leadbitter, Garvan, Martin, Norris, Peters, Civelli, Walters, Colback, Healy, Edwards, Quinn, Trotter .. and that's not even including the fringe youngsters aswell that have played in the Carling Cup this season (O'Connor, Lambe, Upson, Aisnley etc) Time to trim the deadwood out the squad Keano and get a team together with the quality we have left.

he's not really my cup of tea as a player, but just feel that most successful or promoted sides in this league seen to have centre backs in this mould. Don't ask me why, it just seems to work! COYB!

Uefa81 do you ever have anything good to say , why the hell would we get rid of keane he's the best thing that's happend to this club in a long time !

ItfcLoyal , What, exactly, brings you to the conclusion that RK is the best thing thats happened to the club in a long time .? cant get my head around that one ,a long time perhaps,if you have a very short memory .
