Campbell Held Town Talks Last Week?
Campbell Held Town Talks Last Week?

Town held talks with former England defender Sol Campbell last week, according to a report in one of this morning’s tabloids. Roy Keane revealed his interest in the ex-Arsenal and Spurs man on Friday in the wake of Campbell walking out on his five-year deal at Notts County after only one game.

Speaking about his Notts County exit for the first time in another of this morning's papers, Campbell, who Newcastle and Hull City are also said to be chasing, is confident that he will be able to find a new club before the transfer window opens: "We will just have to wait and see who comes in for me now but I don't think I will have to wait until January. I'm talking to people now to try to solve that."

This may suggest that the 35-year-old’s County contract is yet to be formally torn up and that he can move on loan, while there is also a provision for players to move outside the transfer window if they can show a legitimate reason to the authorities for leaving their previous clubs.

Campbell is unspecific about his Meadow Lane exit: "I knew I would be the club's first big signing but was told I would be the first of many. Names like Roberto Carlos and Benjani were mentioned - now that would have been a statement of intent.

“But, for whatever reason, it didn't happen. And all I will say is that you know when people have money because things happen and they happen quickly.”

Meanwhile, elsewhere in this morning's tabloids, Dwight Yorke says he received a four-letter response from Roy Keane when he commiserated him on his exit at Sunderland.

Big Sol's contribution at Notts County was a shocking performance that cost them the game .35 years old and looking every year of it , if we sign this waste of space we will be more of a laughing stock than we are now.

Good leader ,good defender will aid our youngsters no end may be able to teach them where to stand on set pieces !
How about Luke Young from Villa at left back ? and Vela from Arsenal,Welback at Man Utd .
Jim looks to have brought in some good players Bouzza ,Watson and Simpson at QPR as he did with Santos why is it taking us so long ?

Now way is Sol going to improve us in his current shape. He really has a long long way to sweat to be even good enough for League 2 now. Sometimes I wonder do people follow anything that happens anywhere else. I can forgive that for supporters but not for a manger. It's simple lazyness. The worst thing with RK is that he only seems to know his old mates, old players (Sunderland) and people from Cork.

There are good defenders to be found surely with a future too.

not sure that we are trying to build a club for premiership football by considering a 35 year old centre back - yes he is good enough for any championship side i feel, but if we go up (big IF) in the next 2 years a 37 year old centre back will not be premiership material. Take him short term maybe, on loan - god knows we could do with someone there at the moment with a bit of experience, but thats it

Rumour on Sky this morning says he is being considered for a player/coach role at PR. This could be a good move, lots of experience to pass on.
