McClaren Linked
McClaren Linked

Former England manager Steve McClaren is claimed to be the frontrunner to succeed Roy Keane as Town manager, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. McClaren is currently manager of Dutch side FC Twente.

Earlier in the week chief executive backed Keane despite the Blues’ disappointing start to the season, however, this morning’s report claims club owner and chairman Marcus Evans is less happy and that McClaren has been discussed as a possible successor to the Irishman.

It’s highly unlikely that Clegg was speaking purely for himself as is suggested rather than for Evans and the board as a whole and the story appears to be nothing more than tabloid rumour-mongering.

In all of this huffing and puffing are we not forgetting that the person who appointed Keane, after only one day at the club, will also have the job of replacing him? Perhaps Mr. Clegg should walk before any decision is taken regarding the manager position. I think Southampton supporters might be able to inform us about big name appointments from outside of (round ball) football and where that could take us. Maybe it is too late to invite Derek Bowden back but at the moment I would even welcome the return of John Duncan or Joe Royle!

Just think not a great international manager but he got Middlesborough to the Uefa Cup Final. A very impressive club manager !

Steve McLaren : so awful I had never considered him! Graeme Souness anyone? Bryan Robson? Tony Adams? Paul Gascoigne? Maradona?
Stop this nonsense : get Ian Holloway here now.

WeWereZombies and everyone else wanting to sweep away the current management: Get a grip. The season is not even a quarter gone. I would seek to stabilise things by giving Roy a longer contract. This is a long term project, and we're all in it together, including the fans. Just play your part and get behind your team like those at Oakwell yesterday. If PR wasn't such a poisonous environment because of the moaners we might have more points in the bag by now. It's no surprise that our best performances have been away from home.

I get the feeling Fulham fans felt the same when rumours of Hodgson taking over surfaced - now look at them.
Keeping the faith is all well and good, and believe me I support the lads as much as anyone making a return journey of 600+ miles for the home games (season ticket holder Sir Bobby Robson stand), but at what point do you say "Oh well, Div 1 next season - but I'm glad we stuck by Keane to achieve it"?! He just isn't good enough I'm afraid. I'd have more respect if the board just held their hands up and said "Yes, we got it wrong." We are 11 games in to the season and already 5 points adrift.
Keeping faith doesn't make a poor team play better, this team is struggling and struggling badly. We have now lost against teams at the top and teams at the bottom.
Not sure if MaClaren is the right choice (and I also think it is probably paper talk) but he won a trophy with a shite team like Middlesborough and took them into a UEFA final and he got his current club into Europe. He might be a poor International manager but as a club manager he isn't too shabby.

And people aren't talking about Curbishley because he has said numerous times that he will not take a step down into the Championship.

i really hope keano ignores all the crap thats flying around he can do alot for this club, after seeing his face on the beeb last nite after the match with that brave interviewer i hope that was a look of im not going anywhere. The last two games was a really big improvement,i think richard wright needs to have a top keeper chasing him all the way abit of fight. Two weeks to get in there and kick arse and get some more belief in the team, KEANO KEANO KEANO.

Gentlemen please! If we'd kept our heads for another few seconds during the past week, we'd have 4 more points and be heading towards mid table. Keano has to be given at least a few months. In the meantime, perhaps some thought could be given to why no decent players wasted to come to Ipswich this summer?

Steve McClaren was out of his depth as England manager, but he is probably a reasonable choice at Championship level. Surely he must have learnt something along the way. Anyway, it's only paper talk - at the moment! Until anything actually happens, I shall be backing Mr Keane. I feel quite sorry for him: He really does seem to be doing his best, and we definitely haven't had much luck. I hope PR will get totally behind the team during matches at least, as this might just tip the balance in these very closely drawn or lost encounters. Seven points from the next three games would put us in a much better position. But let's be realistic: our aim is now Championship survival this season. That would do me. I've no wish to change places with Naarwich and/or Colchester. Survival first -Then take it from there!

Well said romeozondervan, its not the Ipswich way. We will stick with Keano, we will rise up the table and we will stick two fingers up to all the press and reporters who are determined to see us and Keano fail. COYB Boys....................Ipswich Til I Die
