Priskin and Edwards Win Caps
Priskin and Edwards Win Caps
Sunday, 11th Oct 2009 09:55

Tamás Priskin and Carlos Edwards picked up international caps in World Cup qualifiers last night but both were on the losing side.

Priskin won his 22nd cap when he came on as a 56th minute substitute as his Hungary side lost 3-0 in Portugal.

The Hungarians still stand a very, very slim chance of finishing second in their group but need to beat Denmark, who have already qualified, on Wednesday, hope Portugal and Sweden both lose and that there’s a massive turnaround in goal difference.

Edwards won his 77th full cap and captained Trinidad and Tobago, playing the full 90 minutes as his team lost 4-0 in Costa Rica.

Trinidad and Tobago sit bottom of the six-team North, Central America and Caribbean qualifying table and have no chance of qualification. They complete their fixtures with a game against former Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos and his already qualified Mexicans on Wednesday.

Gareth McAuley and Northern Ireland are also in action on Wednesday when they play their final qualifier in the Czech Republic, a match they have to win to stand any chance of finishing second in their group, although realistically they are already out as they require San Marino to beat Slovenia and a major turnaround in goal difference.

The central defender has previously won 19 caps and has scored one international goal.

Owen Garvan is again likely to skipper the Republic of Ireland U21s on Tuesday when they face Switzerland in a European U21 Championships game in Waterford, having drawn 1-1 with Georgia on Friday. Garvan has won 12 caps at U21 level.

Priskin goes through another match without scoring, what a bloody shock that is! Keane has October in my opinion to start turning things around, or he will have to live with the consequences of HIS crap signings.... (Priskin included)

I'm concerned about the carbon footprint of these boys. They are not good enough to justify the environmental damage in car emmissions for a match against Kesgrave, never mind travelling to Portugal and Costa Rica.

I blame Priskin for the rising sea levels.

give them time for christ sake , i personally think these two are two of his better signings. With a bit of DECENT support priskin will turn good and in most attacks we have edwards looks exciting. Get rid of Keane soon and will be in even more trouble!
Get rid of that hopeless Macauley though, an absolute shambles!

Edwards is a good player - playing for a below average International Team. He can not be blamed for where he is born - surely?!

As for Priskin, I must admit to being a little disappointed, but agree with others - he needs time. He could well be a decent player.

Agree with you Jas0999. They are both decent players and will come good. the problem is that the confidence has gone from the whole team after a summer of changes and a poor start in the first few games. Getting on the backs of the likes of Priskin in Edwards is not going to help turn this around...

Priskin was on a hiding to nothing.
If he had of scored a hat-trick (highly unlikely i know!), people would still have said so what!
Why dont we give all of the new signings a chance? I dont think getting on their backs is gonna help IMO
What i have seen of Edwards, he looks like given a run in the team, he will be an asset, would rather he concentrated on Town though, than travelling half way round the world to play for a national team that is never going to win anything

Guys - give the boys a chance.

Reality check - we are bottom of the Championship. We have two players who are good enough to have been called up to international duty. What do you want?

Rooney did not score this weekend - lets get rid of him and sack Ferguson!

We are all unhappy about the current state of affairs BUT... we still have established international players, we have a big name (if not popular or proved) Manager and.... we will not be relegated.

Priskin will be another Sam Parkin, costa fortune, deliver nothing..

Interesting to read below on how Huddersfield's manager Lee Clark go Jordan Rhodes:

Clark worked hard to secure Rhodes from Ipswich during the summer, and he added: "I phoned Roy Keane (Ipswich manager) over the summer about a few other players and cheekily mentioned Jordan's name at the end of the list. I got no response about Jordan but I kept at it and gradually wore Keane down.

Good to see Priskin get his cap. This was shortly followed by a badge with Tamas on it and a training course in which he learnt how to say, "Would you like fries with that" in a convincing and jovial manner. Agree with the above comments... although I did see Parkin score two goals against Leeds at Elland Rd in a game we stole... can't see Priskin bagging a brace, can you? Perhaps we should avoid all players whose surname starts with a P and ends in an N? Bring back Alan Lee! (But not Tommy Parkin if we have formally adopted the P / N naming avoidance policy...)

Those of you that KEEP telling everyone to give Priskin a chance!?! Would you like to tell me how long to give him?....... I think some of you are failing to see what a serious situation we are in, Priskin is supposed to be our main striker HE IS NOT SCORING, admittedly the service to him has not been good, but quality strikers can make something happen when they get the ball.
However I do agree given time he may prove to be a good striker..... but then any striker wouuld look good in league 1, this is where we will be if things dont turn around & bloody quickly.

how can some of you lot knock priskin?
he is an international striker playing for us in the ccc!!
we are lucky to have him and the reason he is not scoring for us is not linked to any lack of ability on his part - his record is about 8 from 22 at international level - not bad eh? - think about it...

I can't say I'm totally surprised that the first commenters on this story are the serial moaners ....

I don't suppose there are many teams in the Championship, let alone in the basement of it, that have as many international players as we have. Why don't some of you try encouraging them for a change instead of constantly knocking them and taking the p!ss?? I for one am getting F*CKING FED UP of all the constant negativity on here. If you want a team that is full of 'star' internationals and is winning every week, then go and support Chelsea or Manyoo, otherwise just try and get behind the boys rather than on their backs. It's called SUPPORTING - try it sometime. For f*ck's sake - this wasn't even an Ipswich game, and there are those of you still have a pop at OUR players.

I am REALLY angry about this one!!!!!!!!!!

Dobbie73. deep breaths ,calm down lad,you dont normally sesort to that talk, for one thing do you really reckon the players or manager look on here, [2] do you think they would take any notice [or give a sh;t] what is said here.[3] AND MORE IMPORTANTLY dont you thing their bloody wages are encouragement enough.Fair comment this thread is not about Ipswich though, keep scowling ! they are crap international players.
How may chances do they need. Give us another month and we will need a run of six matches won to catch the nearest team.
I am not a serial moaner I just believe that what we have at present is not good enough,I dont live in cloud cookcoo land. This team are not going to come on on saturday and play swansea off the park, they just are not capable.
