Priskin and Edwards Win Caps
Priskin and Edwards Win Caps
Sunday, 11th Oct 2009 09:55

Tamás Priskin and Carlos Edwards picked up international caps in World Cup qualifiers last night but both were on the losing side.

Priskin won his 22nd cap when he came on as a 56th minute substitute as his Hungary side lost 3-0 in Portugal.

The Hungarians still stand a very, very slim chance of finishing second in their group but need to beat Denmark, who have already qualified, on Wednesday, hope Portugal and Sweden both lose and that there’s a massive turnaround in goal difference.

Edwards won his 77th full cap and captained Trinidad and Tobago, playing the full 90 minutes as his team lost 4-0 in Costa Rica.

Trinidad and Tobago sit bottom of the six-team North, Central America and Caribbean qualifying table and have no chance of qualification. They complete their fixtures with a game against former Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos and his already qualified Mexicans on Wednesday.

Gareth McAuley and Northern Ireland are also in action on Wednesday when they play their final qualifier in the Czech Republic, a match they have to win to stand any chance of finishing second in their group, although realistically they are already out as they require San Marino to beat Slovenia and a major turnaround in goal difference.

The central defender has previously won 19 caps and has scored one international goal.

Owen Garvan is again likely to skipper the Republic of Ireland U21s on Tuesday when they face Switzerland in a European U21 Championships game in Waterford, having drawn 1-1 with Georgia on Friday. Garvan has won 12 caps at U21 level.

Would someone start talking about the certifiable decision that was the sale of Jordan Rhodes.

he should never have been sold, but there were people on here saying ,take the money ! Keane has to sell to buy, well thats fine, but I thought we were suppose to be UPGRADING .

Cornwalltractor and dirty,do you rate Connor?

just wondering.

hate selling players, it seems to me the minute we have a good player they go to a big club, this has happened for years!

but isnt Rhodes slightly different,he wasnt one of our good players, in fact hadnt really made an impact, he was one for the future, like Connor.

surely keeping 2 young prospects is a luxury we couldnt afford, thats why a lot of people said cash in on him.

i would have loved for him to have stayed, but he has gone,so lets move on.....which leads me back to do you rate Connor,if so,lets hope that in the near future, the selling of Rhodes will seem like a good decision, as Connor is banging them in regularly, and the question will then be Jordan who?
