Town Step Up Hutchinson Chase
Thursday, 30th May 2024 17:29

Town are reported to have stepped up their interest in signing former loanee Omari Hutchinson on a permanent basis from Chelsea.

The 20-year-old was a key man during the Blues’ Championship promotion campaign, carrying off the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

Now, according to The Guardian, Town have “accelerated” their interest in bringing Hutchinson back to Portman Road via a deal which could eventually total £20 million, although much of that is likely to be the result of milestone clauses and other top-ups.

The Blues are expected to face opposition for Hutchinson’s signature from Bundesliga Stuttgart, who are in next season’s Champions League, while a number of other top European clubs were impressed by the Jamaica international’s form while at Portman Road.

Whether Chelsea will be willing to sell remains to be seen with incoming manager Enzo Maresca set to assess the Stamford Bridge squad.

Earlier this week, the West Londoners took up an option to extend Hutchinson’s contract until the summer of 2026, while he has been named in the Jamaica squad for their CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers next month.

Another former Town loanee, Jeremy Sarmiento, who was spotted playing football at Goals in Ipswich on Monday evening, has been named in the Ecuador squad for their CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.

How much would be love to see him in a blue shirt, cutting inside and picking out the net at Old Trafford from 20 yards!!

Right, got the boss on a new contract, dont know what all the fuss was about, now lets see some movement on the new players front. Hopefully before pre season training starts!

And lets hope it doesnt take as long to get new players in as it did McKennas new contract. Not sure some on here will be able to cope!!

Hopefully maestro Mark, can make this happen.
Would be the perfect start to the transfer window.

I love the footnote. Doesn't seem Sarmiento is being held in quite the same high regard.

Would have both Hutch & Jez back, no problem. Both would be capable in the Prem & fit in well already.
I'm sure KM & MA will be as shrewd as ever in the transfer market, so whatever happens we'll be as ready as we can.

Negotiating deals with Chelsea for players worth 8 figures, this is like another world.

Looking forward to seeing the squad evolve over the Summer, will be a fascinating transfer window.

I think people will be happy if Omari were to become a player for Ipswich Town Football Club.

Although would love to see him back at PR, a loan would make more sense for town financially at this stage but think Chelsea might cash in. Think we should be going for players with PL experience like Luton did last season. Good money needs to be spent on the defence which with the exception of Davis, won’t cut the mustard at PL level. Haarland will make mincemeat of Wolfy.

Must greatly increase our chances in the transfer market know that McKenna has signed.

Sarmiento has been called up for the Copa America, not World Cup qualifiers.

Oh how things have changed in three years! This would be fantastic for the club and I have every faith in MA pulling this one off.

LegendofthePhoenix added 18:31 - May 30
Remember guys and gals, Mark Ashton asked us not to create too much noise about deals for players until they are done. We know what MA and KM want to do. Lets "give them the oxygen" to do their deals without piling extra pressure on by creating speculation of players' values.

Tetchris we are only allowed two loanees , so signing hutchinson on a permanent basid makes sense we know what hes all about , with loaness you can give them back if not up to it , plus defence will need prremier expirience , so if we uuse the loan market thats where we need it

More chance of playing for Ipswich than Chelsea but is the lure of Champios League more of a draw for the lad

Clemcc added 18:45 - May 30
Love for him to return, but will Maresca sell to us since he couldn’t beat us last year [two draws). May have a Bit of grudge maybe??? Hutchinson will make us stronger- so as Chelsea manger, maybe best to sell overseas???

TimmyH added 18:51 - May 30
First place I would start with new signings would be central defence and right back and follow on from there...

theinbetweener added 18:55 - May 30
Clemcc, with all due respect I can’t see Maresca having much of a say in player incomings or outgoings there…

Europablue added 18:56 - May 30
tetchris We can sell him if we get relegated. It's best to get him in on a permanent and then go from there.

Europablue added 18:56 - May 30
Clemcc It won't be up to Maresca, he will coach who he's told to coach and they will let players leave to balance the books.

I don't think the Bundesliga can compete with the EPL in regards to worldwide appeal and recompense. Welcome back Omari.
