Town 'Monitoring Bamford Situation'
Tuesday, 6th Jan 2026 15:12

Town are reported to be keeping an eye on Patrick Bamford’s situation at Sheffield United.

The striker signed a short-term deal at Bramall Lane in November having left Leeds at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old has scored five goals in six starts and four sub appearances for the Blades and manager Chris Wilder is unsurprisingly keen to keep the once-capped former England international beyond the end of his contract, which is up on January 11th.

According to Alan Nixon, the Blues are monitoring the situation, while it’s believed other Championship clubs are also keeping an eye on developments.

Speaking last week, Wilder said the Blades were expecting Bamford to commit to staying in South Yorkshire.

“We're confident that we can do something,” he told the Sheffield Star. “The feedback we've got from Pat is really positive. He knows, as I’ve said before, what we think of him.

“I'm sure he’s enjoying his football, enjoying playing for the football club and pulling on that shirt.

“And I'm pushing as much as I can. But obviously there's a negotiation involved in it. And there will be an attraction from other clubs because of what he's done. So that was the gamble of bringing him in.

“He wanted to sign a short-term deal as well. So it’s not that we didn’t give him a longer-term deal. That’s the road that he wanted to go down. He’s backed himself, which is good. And we’ve backed ourselves in terms of a club and what we can give him.

“So it’s pretty much a balancing act, what we've given Pat and what he's given us. I think we're a good fit for him and he's a good fit for us. So hopefully, yes, we can get that over the line in mid-January.”

Cant see this happening. He has been based in Yorkshire for some time.

Don't mind Bamford for 6 months but anyone fancy an audacious little bid to bring Callum Wilson in for the season if he is as reported, mutually terminating his contract with West Ham to get more game time? Perhaps with a view to a perm if promoted? not got the running of an Azon but he's only 33 and is a class act when fit and confident. Bamford would slot in nicely too I think failing that.

An experienced, proven goalscorer on a short term contract.

What's not to like?

There won't be an abundance of top forwards in the transfer window and he might just get the goals we need for promotion without costing a fortune?

Im sure there is something to this, although I suspect we have younger players who would be priority targets. If they dont work out, I'd take this guy all day he's been looking very sharp for United of late.

The fact that its leaked out now will be no coincidence, we have a far better chance of getting to the PL than United, and Bamford would be keen to get a shot. Might take an 18 month deal though, I doubt he would uproot, get us up and then be OOC again

No disrespect to any of our strikers, but a fit and in form Bamford is better than we have at present and he seems to be both at the moment

No plan A for a striker this window then,
No surprise,

Dear God, no. Capable of the occasional good goal, but makes simple things look incredibly difficult.

5 goals in 6 starts for a mid table club. I'd take him.

Would rather us try for Leeds Joel Piroe.

Weve tried for Bamford before and don't think he was keen and he's getting on a bit.

Dear god, please not.
He's been based oop north for a long time now, so not sure why he'd come to us for a few months when he's enjoying his time there. Will never be a prem player again, so why would we go for him?

I thought we were now using Brighton's system for finding transfers. You will always overpay in this country which we keep doing (McAteer, Clarke etc). Why dont we look abroad, as even some of the lower teams in the champ have found some good players abroad for a fraction of the price of English league players

I was at the Riverside when he put two past Town with great individual goals. Was a few years ago mind, but a talented striker in his day and could do for us what Kieffer Moore did a couple of seasons ago when we lacked a proven goalscorer to get us over the line.

I just don't rate this guy, it's so underwhelming again if true.

Why we didn’t go for Ollie McBurnie at the beginning of the year I don’t know.

If we are going down this route which in all honesty doesn’t sit well with me, than I’d rather have Callum Wilson than Bamford.

BillM, im pretty sure Plan A is something we will either deliver on, or never learn of. This may well be plan B or Plan C

The fact this has leaked and being reported is deliberate, we've seen this many times before, something leaks and all of a sudden, bang we sign someone else

No thanks. Decent stats but I don’t get the feeling he’d be here long term, therefore wouldn’t feel the passion for the club and shirt. Would prefer a striker that’s wants to be part of the project and success for 24 months or so.

A striker on loan was always going to be the preferred route ..remember Keiffer Morre...then buy a striker in the summer when we know which division we are in..Bamford has not always been based in the North.. Chelsea Milton Keynes and Norwich just some of the less northern places he has played ..he is Marmite but could do a job given his current form...Wilson could too but a bit injury prone...

No no no. Not Bamford, I have never liked the guy. Something about him,not sure what but just no.

We could always try a permanent move for the Leeds youngster on loan at Hull, Joe Gerhardt

Bit surprised. KMK likes a blunderbuss No. 9 not a rapier. Must be keeping an eye on some of the burly characters at Afcon
