Former Town Loanee Rosenior Agrees to Become Chelsea Boss
Tuesday, 6th Jan 2026 09:52

Former Town loanee Liam Rosenior has agreed to become the new Chelsea manager.

Rosenior was with the Blues during the 2009/10 season, making 28 starts and three sub appearances, scoring once.

The 41-year-old has been in charge of Strasbourg, who are part of the same multi-club ownership group as the West Londoners, since July 2024 having previously been Hull City boss.

“I haven't signed yet, I have agreed verbally with Chelsea,” he told a Strasbourg press conference this morning.

“It’s really important, this is different to anything anyone has ever done - nobody has made a statement before they have signed a contract.

“Everything is agreed and it will probably go through in the next few hours. I’m here because I care about this club and I felt it was right to answer your questions physically here today before I move on.”

He added: “The last 18 months have been a joy and the best of my professional career. I have met some incredible people and created some incredible memories and made history.

“None of that happens without the investment of our ownership and hard work of our president.

“I have had interest from many clubs, including Champions League clubs, which I have always been open with to [our president] Marc [Keller] and our ownership. I will love this club for the rest of my life but I cannot turn down Chelsea.”

It was subsequently confirmed that Rosenior had signed a six-year deal.

Hull were very silly to sack him. Always thought he'd be a good replacement for McKenna. Depends how long he lasts at Chelsea now...

If McKenna moved on that is. No way I'd want Rosenior instead unless it was out of our hands.

At first glance this looks like a huge gamble with a guy with a very low profile.

But, thinking it through, and looking at the fact Strasbourg is part of the Chelsea organisation, it makes sense to appoint someone they have under their wing already, and if you take it to another level, the likelihood is that the new boss there will be developed in the same way.

I too thought Hull were rash to sack him. I wish him well, it would be good to see a younger manager have a long spell there, as we have done with McKenna, and Arsenal have with Arteta.

6 year contract, might last 6 months, if he's lucky

This is a good move. He did a good job with Hull, still never understood why they fired him just because they lost in the playoffs. Done a really good job with Strasbourg too getting them into Europe and sitting well this season. Be interesting to see what he does at Chelsea and joining during the transfer window is always a bonus too. Best of luck Liam and hopefully agent Rosenior will help us when we get back to the Premier League ;)

Managed Delap at Hull; and actually the two of them beat Chelsea in a cup game.

Now reunited.

For what it’s worth I personally think he will be totally out of his depth, too many egos at a club like Chelsea , wish him well but watch this space .

Doesn't matter who the manager is at Chelsea. They are not in charge and on a hiding to nothing. Atleast he will be paid well. Good manager

No brained as no one will expect him to do well so gets a good contract and decent pay off when he gets sacked. Always thought he would be a good replacement if KM left?

The place is a nut house, I wouldn't have gone there for 2 kings ransomes. Good luck to Liam, he's going to need it, but if he pulls it off, he's going to see his stock rise dramatically. He just needs to tell others that try and interfere in team selection etc to do one!

A big improvement for Chelsea on Maresca who really wasn't that good at Leicester with a team of Prem players. Anyone at the King Power when we drew 2 seasons back would see he had little idea & they were playing for time mostbof 2nd half. The Chelsea position is a poisoned chalice & I am a little surpried Rosenoir took the job.
