Campbell Wants Championship Loan
Campbell Wants Championship Loan
Monday, 12th Oct 2009 09:30

Sol Campbell is keen on a loan move to a Championship club before joining a Premier League side in January, according to a tabloid report this morning. Campbell recently left Notts County weeks into a five-year deal, but is still officially contracted to the League Two club.

This would allow him to move out on loan to a Football League side with Town manager Roy Keane having expressed in his interest in the former England man last month.

However, West Brom are considered favourites for the ex-Arsenal and Tottenham defender’s signature with the 35-year-old reported to have already held talks with the Baggies.

Meanwhile, another tabloid report claims Town midfielder Owen Garvan has told friends that manager Roy Keane isn’t speaking to him and that he expects to leave the club.

Garvan, who is currently away skippering the Republic of Ireland U21s, hasn’t played for the first team since August and last month turned down a loan spell at Colchester, although Keane recently said he could still come back into his thoughts.

8 games in which we have not won ?? good point !!!
Good management not to talk to one of your young players

If you notice where this story has come from....it is The Mirror! AGAIN! They have for the last few weeks been posting many anti Ipswich stories, I think maybe a journo from there has it in for Keane

I was hoping when Keane came here he'd give Garvan some advice with his experience in midfield, but instead if this is true he's just chosen to ignore him.

He didn't do too well under a manager who clearly does not want him, and those two games seem to be enough to dismiss all the good performances over the past few years...

Also with Campbell, what is the point, we're just a bridge club to keep him fit, he won't care about us and in the long run where will be once he has left, again without a decent CB.

Campbell can get lost, obviously doesn't want to play for a championship clubs, just see's it as a stepping stone to prem club in Jan and a nice way to keep match fit!

Garvan is a decent player (no more!) but obviously doesn't have the mentality Keane is looking for. What puzzles me is that if the manager isn't speaking to you and has made it clear you are not going to play why not go out on loan??? Maybe Garvan is not the innocent victim some of you make him out to be?? Maybe he's happy to pick up his wages and make no input???

...or maybe Garvan is waiting until Keane has gone and a new manager comes in and gives him a go? (not that I'm saying that should - or will - happen).

I very much doubt he is being ignored. I just think Garvan is throwing his toys out the pram.

Maybe if he put his head down and worked on his game, then Keane might consider him.

i don't believe everything I read in the papers, far from it.....but I hope it's not true that we have a manager who 'isn't talking' to any of our players.

The more you read about Keanes management or see how he reacts in interviews the more i begin to doubt his abilities as a manager , and before i am berated for not supporting the club and told to look at his record ,what is his record he took over a newly relegated side who were favourites to go up ( as everyone keeps saying about Newcastle,Brom and Boro) spent a vast amount of money for this league and got them promoted ,then spent another vast amount of money to take them to lower mid table before he lost alot of games in a row took them to relegation fight and then walked away . The same players then turned it around with an unknown manager ,some record .
I hope all the stories of unrest are false as he claimed they were at Sunderland but if they are not it is very worrying and the players are definately playing as if they are scared and with little or no confidence ,there must be a reason .

How in the name of all that is Holy can ANY organisation run with the manager not speaking with his staff? IF things are that bad there are trained people who can mediate!

How long has Keane actually got? I'm not saying he should go (although i've seriously lost the faith i originally had for him, i'm still clinging to the hope he is the man to take us onwards and upwards). Will he still have a job if we don't win either of our next 2 games - both at home...?? We're in danger of not only having no chance of getting to the playoffs, but getting cut adrift in the relegation zone!

This smacks of sour grapes as hinted at above. Garvan has been 'technically our best player' 'potentially top class' for as long as I can remember now but the truth is he is not good enough. He has no pace, no determination to suceed and no desire. If he was that bothered about being ignored and the lack of games, why did he not join col Utd on loan last week and prove a point to Keane in the best possible way. He is not the answer to uor problems. IMO he is behind Leadbitter, Norris, Civelli, Quinn, Colbeck, Walters and even Trotter in the midfield pecking order. People are forever complaining about the lack of opportunities for the youth players but Garvan has had more than his fair share of chances under 3 different managers now. Surely the lack of offers is a bit of a giveaway to his appeal outside the club?

Campbell's past it and he's also a little two big for his boots, I personally wouldnt want a player who signs a five year deal for a club and plays one game, Notts County fans must be angry about that. Not only has it prevented them getting a replacement CB (or wasted their time having to look for someone else), but its also an insult to the club saying he doesnt want to play.

As for the Garvan/Keane situation, Im getting really tired of this now. I dont really know whats going on there. I think something as probably gone on behind the scenes. I certainly didnt see anything so bad in Garvan's (few) performances this season to warrant him being completely dropped from the team. Certainly I could name a few players who have performed worst.

Garvan's really good in Fifa10, can't understand why Keane doesn't play him

Garvan is slow, gives the ball away if he wasn't from the acdemy the fans would be screaming for him not to play. I'm sorry but garvan hasn't progressed and Trotter has taken his chance in the centre midfield with Leadbitter easily our best player. Trotter was man of the match at Sheffield United so for all you fans that don't travel away i think we should all get behind the team, as it could be one long hard season.

Surely Campbell moving to us can only be a good thing. If he is eager to improve his match fitness then what better place to start than Ipswich? He can help us climb up the table and sure up our defence until January when Mr. Evans is bound to give us more money to spend to buy some decent players. Who cares is Campbell moves on? As long as he is commited then why not? As for Garvan I think he needs to step down a level to realise his potential, if he thinks he's going to play in the Premier League, he needs to get back to basics first...

For goodness sakes. ?

Someone at the Mirror spoke to a "friend" of Garvans. Yawn.

This is about a close to a real story as ET.

I think the Garvan situation reminds me of the last months of the Burley years, player unrest, unhappy changing room and poor management. Simple fact is results get points and we don't have many. I give Keane to Christmas and then he will either walk or be pushed. Campbell was a quality player and maybe he could be the new mogga, pulled the defence into a good working unit. I think we need a good sort out in defence and remind them what there job description is.

Remember Mobray being brought back from a coaching role to marshall the defence prior to promotion? If we don't get similar, and if not Campbell, then somebody pleeeeze to do the same role. If not (and there is no word of anyone coming in at the moment), it's curtains and we will go into League 1 with a very famous manager (assuming he doesn't walk by then).
