Keane Happy With Point
Keane Happy With Point
Sunday, 25th Oct 2009 00:13

Boss Roy Keane was happy to take a point away from Town’s visit to Plymouth having gone behind in the first half. Argyle manager Paul Sturrock says he will consider appealing against Darcy Blake’s red card.

Keane said: “I could have a go at my players for not hitting the target more but Plymouth defended unbelievably well. It's important to recognise that.

“You only have to look at Quinn's chance and the defender running back and clearing off the line.

"I guess when you go one down away from home, particularly with the ball taking ages to come back in when it goes out of play, we have got to be contented with a draw. The encouraging thing for me as a manager is that we are creating chances."

Keane was pleased with the way Jon Stead took his chance when it came: "Steady took his goal well and deserves full credit for getting in that position. He gambled on the backpass, but still had a lot to do and it was a cool finish.

"He has not been involved recently but he scored twice for the reserves in midweek, so he's had a good week.

"It's very frustrating but we'll keep going. We'll take the point and move on."

Elsewhere, a tabloid newspaper claims Keane is looking to add a more experienced coach to his staff to help end the Blues’ winless run. Earlier in the season, when ex-Manchester United coach Brian Kidd was linked with a coaching role the Blues, Keane said he wasn’t planning on any backroom changes.

Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock says he will consider whether to appeal against Darcy Blake’s red card for a two-footed lunge on Alan Quinn: "We will have a look at the video and see if Darcy deserved a straight red card. If not we will lodge an appeal but first we will look at the tape.

"Overall I don't know at this stage whether it was a point gained or two dropped. What I do know is that we played with confidence in the first half and when we were a goal up but once we conceded that confidence seemed to be sucked out of us."

THE MANAGER IS ONLY AS GOOD AS HIS PLAYERS. FACT JIM WAS POOR AT ITFC AND VERY GOOD AT QPR. RK WAS GOOD AT SUNDERLAND AND NOT AS GOOD AT ITFC. THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS I BLAME THE PLAYERS FOR THE MESS AND NOT RK AS THEY ARE MORE OR LESS THE SAME AS JM REIGN. IF WE GET RID OF RK WHO WILL BECOMING TO THE HOT SEAT AT PORTMAN ROAD - WHAT X PLAYERS ARE IN NEED OF WORK AS THAT IS ALL WE WILL ATTRACT. I WOULD SUGGEST WE GIVE RK MORE TIME TO TURN THE ISSUE, I CAN SEE 1 WIN PUSHING US UP THE TABLE ON A RUN AND THAT WIN IS VERY CLOSE. COME ON YOU BLUES !!!!!!

I verbally support the players and manager as much as possible at the matches, but it is entirely fair to critisise the management on here.

Remember that we finished 9th last year, winning 17 games. We appointed a new Chief Exec and manager to take us forwards, and millions were invested in the team. We were 4th favourites to win the Championship and Keane raised expectations about promotion this year, including comments about any manager being able to finish mid-table. With all that in mind, the facts are:

- We have not won a match in 16 attempts;
- We are bottom of the league, with a gap opening up;
- The team changes every week;
- The team usually looks as though it plays with fear;
- Keane's changed the defence by bringing in Delaney (£700k), Brown (free), Rosenior (loan) and Begovic (loan), freezing out D.Wright for a long time, and we have conceded 27 goals in 14 league games;
- Keane changed the midfield by bringing in Martin (£1.5m), Healy (100k), Edwards (£1m) and Leadbitter (£3m), selecting Trotter most of the time, but we still don't dominate the midfield, protect the defence or create many chances.
- Keane sold Rhodes (£250-800k), tried to sell Counago (£400k), loaned out Lisbie and brought in Priskin (£1.7m), but we've scored just 15 goals in 14 games and now have a midfielder up front.

We should not be scrapping for any win to then think all is okay, because we are Ipswich Town FC. In my living memory we have always been a solid Championship side or better, even through financial administration, so it is absolutely right that questions are asked now about the management.

Very worrying. In the past week we have used up another 3 'winnable' games and yesterday's in particular was a 'must win.' This inability to get 3 points is a serious problem and, while the performances of the team have improved slightly, Town look increasingly like repeating Charlton's suicidal run last season. The mathematics of the situation are that Town are running out of time and there is nothing obvious happening to remedy the situation.

All the fans who believe we are going to shoot up the table after we get that first win are being naive and, dare I ask, would anyone still be advocating Jim be given more time if he had gone on a 14 game (16 if you count the carling cup games) winless run?

ME and Clegg need to either back Keane with whatever additional resources he needs to bring in the two loan players he wants or sack him now before it is too late to save the season and Town's Championship status...

thats 3 unbeaten which will start building the players confidence we r just one win from safety, i believe it will turn as the performances suggest but while we r in this run of fixtures playing teams around us because come the last game of november and december we start playing teams in top 10 and it will be interesting to see how we fare against them with some confidence, i think a CB is still needed despite better defending lately a defensive CM not sure if we need a new striker as what we have at the club have proven in previous seasons that they can score just need a lengthly run in the side, i would go with stead and priskin and give them 4 to 5 games together, counagos to inconsisstant, i like walters and his work rate is first class but he is no striker but a right winger.
i never thought keano would take us up in the first season rebuilding the side but would be challenging for promotion the second season and to do that we just gonna have to win the relegation fight we r in first, when did town ever make it EASY

Ok,the signs are there that things are turning around - slightly..but for me this was a month where we were up against some of the poorer sides in this division and we should've collected more than a paltry 3 points..I gave him october to save his job - if we can't beat Derby at home next weekend then i'm sorry but I think it's time to change it before things drag on anymore.

And a message to all the utter turnips out there who wanted Magilton out last season - "nice one morons!" ....good on ya Jim , I am so damned annoyed that you are not still at our club.

How can he be happy with a point?! We need a win! Im gaining faith in the team, we will get it right. But im losing faith in keano, its one thing bringing in a high profile manager but its another having a manager who can attract DECENT players and not for ridiculous prices (Martin). Where are these loan signings? Its seems that other managers can do it, why cant he?
We should beat Derby next saturday though,
COYB!

what ever manager is happy with a point against one of the worst teams in the league when he hasn't won a game yet shouldn't be in football management.

'blid faith' ? No we can see the makings of a very good team coming together. It's u negative whingers who are blinded. If we played crap and won every week u would think we were the dogs bo**ocks. I love the way the team is shaping up, we just need to take more of the chances we are creating. I honestly think u boys would be far happier supporting one of the big four and stop disrepecting the other teams in this league, there are no walkovers and teams that are struggling now could easily be in contention for the play offs come May.

i think anybody who supports ipswich is a true supporter why else would you support a team bottom o fthe championship, Ive been a season ticket holder for 6 years and this is the worst team ive seen us had and the worst ive seen us play the table don't lie and if we dont sack keane now it will be too late he just aint got a clue what his best team is!

Look at the facts. We're bottom of the league with no wins in 14.

When do we say enoughs - enough and replace Keane. Do we want to see this great club follow the like of Leeds, Forest and the Narrrrwich. There's too much of 'If' ad 'When' we've got poor results for teams we should be beating (at least in previous years we were).

Enoughs - Enough Keane has to go, so any replacement has got time to access the squad before the January transfer window. And hopeful get the team winning so that we can attract players, because at present this isn't happening

Keane is not and will never be a great manager. Great players do not make great managers and Keane proves this.

I can see why some of the supporters are fed-up and I can see why some of the supports are saying give him more time. But my gut is saying that if we're still in the same situation by the end of December I think well have to face it that there will be a good chance of us going down.
I think Roy can do a good job and in some respects he is, and there are positive sign too. But I'm very disappointed with his chilled out approach - before the season started, there was fighting talk, but since the season started it has all gone. Yes it is a good thing that town aren't loosing but draws aren't good. I want to hear Roy say at the beginning of a game, that only a win is good enough and that he is going to move heaven and Earth to get a quality players too, what ever the cost! But saying that only 50% 0f his buys have been any good, he has a worst record that some past managers.
We're just have to face facts that if town don't win most of the next ten matches then town will need a miracle!!!

Congratulations to all my fellow Town fans, who sang their heart out yesterday.
The display was not as good as on Tuesday, but stil we looked good in places.We are playing attractive football, and if PA didnt put 11 men behind the ball at every opportunity we would have had more than 1 POINT.

Please do not come on here and criticise the teams effort, IF YOU WERE NOT THERE AND DIDNT SEE THE GAME!!!

We play a far more attractive game since RK has taken over, and if you armchair supporters were to actually go and see a game you might realise this, and stop calling for RK's head.

Call me deluded if you want, but the results will follow after the performances we are putting in, but if you call me deluded, at least have the common decency to have seen a game, and not base all of your rants on the Newcastle (televised) game.

I don't care if I get slated for this, but I really think it's time for Keane to go. Yes I'll always support the team, I'm not a boo boy, but, we're useless and it's clearly not acceptable. We've simply never been this bad and we have the players who are capable of at very least mid table. Yes, we're unbeaten in three, but we're also clearly no better than some very ordinary teams around us, because the likes of Plymouth should be winable games.
Just remember, Evans came here with the aspirations to get this team to the Premier league and at the time many were moaning about Jm's mid table mediocracy. Now, has anybody noticed we're bottom? Ok, yeah they have, well that's alright then because we have Keane in charge!
It's not like we're a newly promoted team, struggling in a higher division, we're struggling in a divsion we're very used to, so it's clear to me that things just aren't working at the moment and if so many so called fans are happy to let this club slide into league one, maybe they're the ones who need to go support rubbish like Norwich. Imagine we got drawn against the budgies in the cup, I for one wouldn't be confident of beating them at the moment and that really hits hard for me!
Just remember,

Thank you buryblue77 "we're useless".Did you go,can you back up that claim by actually saying you saw we were useless?

No team has a divine right to be in their given league, hard work, though, will usually turn things around.
The effort the team is putting in at the moment deserves results, but as i said you dont always get what you deserve.
Patience, the tide will turn, because we are not useless, and to think that you do not deserve to call yourself a supporter...
Dissappointment makes us say silly things, lets hope that your statement comes from dissappointment, rather than a deep lack of knowledge

And I'd like to add to my post, I'd love nothing more than Keane to turn the fortunes of this club around and a few games ago I thought he just might especially when he was talking of loan signings, well only one has materialised.
I'm not anti Keane, I'm anti being bottom of the table when we shouldn't be.
Just another point, if at any time in our recent history we should have been in this posistion it should have been under big Joes reign, when he had no money, was forced to sell players because of the clubs financial posistion and had to bring in rubbish just to make up a squad, he nearly got us promoted, twice!

This is frustrating for all of us but keep in mind that we finished last year with dos Santos and Norris who have been sorely missed. Hopefully Norris and Civelli will return before too long which should have an impact. We still need someone to stick the ball in the net and am unclear why Priskin isn't given a better run.
Anyway I predict a win againsty Derby. Was at the Derby game last November and observed that Derby didn't use the width of the field. If they still play that way, that can be be exploited.
I haven't been over from Toronto to attend any games yet this year but sense that the effort is definitely there so am confident that we'll get out of this. If not, life will be miserable from my pisstaking mates not to mention bets to be settled!

Injuredanimal, what is the point of playing nice football if we can't finish it off. I accept that we don't have natural finishers and have struggled with strikers since the Kuqi/Bent partnership. Yeah, ok if we had someone to put the ball in the net I'm sure with some of the decent performances we'd have wone a few. But we don't, so we haven't. And that makes us useless (bottom of table remember) and who's fault is it that we don't have the strikers to put the ball away? Not mine, not yours or any other fans, that's where the buck stops with the manager I'm afraid so admit it, I do have a valid point!

AJblue added 13:59 - Oct 25
If that is the stance you wish to take,I see you avoid answering the question whether you have seen any of the performances,then i must take from that, that it is indeed a lack of football knowledge that you are displaying.

OK, by what you are saying, we replace the manager.

Who with?
If you mention Curbishley or Umbrella man, i will literally scream!!
We are stuck with RK,as long as ME want him.
Whilst he is here, the least we could do is back him, cos face facts, we are not going to be able to sack him.
As for you valid point, how can you blame the manager, for taking over an under achieving team, that is in the second tier of English football, and is tucked away in a far from fashionable part of the country.
However many millions ME has given whatever manager, you are never going to attract the likes of Torres, Van Persie etc.
Goal scorers are the most sought after commodity in football, the lure of us (and remember i LOVE us) is never going to be big enough to attract that type of player.
As for not wanting to watch attractive football,but wanting results,well there are a lot of "hoof" merchants in the leagues, one about 18 miles south og here, perhaps if you are after glory and dont care about the quality, you should goa nd watch them!!!
