Wood Set to Leave Wednesday
Wood Set to Leave Wednesday
Tuesday, 17th Nov 2009 08:56

Sheffield Wednesday central defender Richard Wood is set to leave Hillsborough for another Championship club before the Blues face the Owls in Saturday’s live Sky game at Portman Road (KO 5.20pm). Town are one of a number of clubs to have been linked with a move for transfer-listed Wood.

Town targeted the centre-half close to the end of the transfer window, but Coventry City are reported to be the favourites for his signature with a proposed move to League Notts County appearing to have fallen through.

Wednesday manager Brian Laws confirmed his player’s impending exit but refused to reveal the club involved: "I expect something to happen within the next 48 hours."

The Owls hope to bring in two loan players with the funds raised from Wood’s exit initially on loan but with the move being made permanent in January.

Football League clubs have until Thursday 26th November to bring in players on so-called emergency loans.

Meanwhile, Town’s reserves are in action against Luton at Kenilworth Road this afternoon (KO 2pm).

I presume any deal would involve loaning Wood until January otherwise he wouldn't be able to play until the transfer window opens again.

Some quality at centre back would be very welcome, and this guy can probably provide it if we can get him in (really hope it's us who are set to sign him). If he comes into the squad, and we can get a settled back four down without changing it every week, then I see no reason why we can't stop leaking the stupid goals that we have been. He might complete our first decent defense in years! Just as long as his coming in doesn't mean that the squad will require 'more time to gel'.

I hope he joins us. An excellent centre back. He will also add a goal threat from set pieces a la De Vos. He will be sorely missed at Wednesday.
