Portsmouth Recall Begovic
Portsmouth Recall Begovic
Monday, 23rd Nov 2009 11:13

Portsmouth have recalled keeper Asmir Begovic from his loan spell with the Blues after David James picked up a calf injury in the warm-up ahead of their game at Stoke yesterday. The Bosnian international was due to remain with Town until January.

Begovic made six appearances for the Blues in just over a month at the club, taking over from Richard Wright after the former England man had made a number of crucial errors.

Manager Roy Keane will now have to decide whether to return to Wright or look at bringing in another loan keeper before Thursday's deadline. Prior to signing Begovic, Keane made an enquiry to Birmingham City regarding the availability of Irish international Colin Doyle.

The Blues also have Arran Lee-Barrett in their ranks with the former Hartlepool man contracted until January when new signing Brian Murphy officially joins the club on a Bosman from Irish side Bohemians.

Maybe this will work in our favour, the time Wrights been out of goal might have given him a wakeup call and now he knows Keane wont stand for anymore mistakes anbd this could may make him more solid, its not the end of the world Begovic did very well for us but we have a very good keeper to come back in to replace him.

Richard wright is solid, I have no problems with him playing if the defense continues to perform.

CMON KEANE OUT

I did not understand why we loaned him at the time, but hats off to RK on this one, as he seems to have helped steady our leaky defense. Pity he's gone back but I still think Richard Wright is a top class keeper

Time for some mis-timed catches, gifted goals to the opposition and poor command of the area..............Welcome back Wrighty

RW is a good keeper who made a few mistakes which cost us dear at a time when we were desparate for wins - and I know, we still are.

Given James' record of injuries it was always on the cards that Begovic would have to go back early.

By all reports,Begovic wanted to stay here.
I imagine he is as gutted as us.
What a big miss, defence has looked a 100 times better with him behind them

I always thought that getting a loan keeper to 'solve' your keeping crisis was a big mistake. It would have to end at some point.

Wrighty is a good keeper, always has been. He'd made a few mistakes but last season he showed that he could get through them. This season however, he's now had his confidence wiped and will probably come back as bad or worse.

Mind you, having said that, he wasn't responsible for the rubbish defending in front of him (maybe a bit towards the end). Now that that has improved greatly maybe he'll be fine.

This is bad news, this guy seemed to have instilled confidence in the back four, hence the improved defensive displays. Plug instills a lack of confidence and with two very difficult away games coming up it couldn't have come at a worse time. Hope I am wrong but the immediate future looks grim.

Common now, I think we are missing the point, the defense is looking a lot better now, and Bergi has been great, but lets not forget the rest of the defence, I think we have looked a lot more solid at the back in the last couple of months,
The real problem is the other end....we can't buy a goal at the moment, common keano sort us out a striker ! and fast....

Does no-one else think it is somewhat of a coincidence that the 6 games he's been in goal we have gone unbeaten?

Not great news to be honest with ya.

Disappointed, Bergovic is a very good keeper, and less prone to clangers than FA Cup. Still RW can be Prem class on his day, just needs consistency.

bad news... but..... lets have some confidence! Wrighty has had some time off to get his head sorted!

Now we will see if Wright is really up to the job, it is a great shame this guy looked like a 'proper keeper'.
