Keane: Loans Likely in January
Keane: Loans Likely in January
Monday, 7th Dec 2009 16:50

Boss Roy Keane says that Town are more likely to look at loan signings than permanent additions to the squad in January. The Blues have the likes of David Norris and Luciano Civelli returning from injury and Kevin Lisbie will be back from his loan at Colchester, while a number of other players currently out of the first team picture could be sent out on temporary spells.

Keane told the official site: "David should be available in January and Kevin will be coming back to this club then as well, so that might be it for us.

"We might look at getting a loan or two in to cover the areas we need to fill, but you don't want too many players left in the background.

"We have a reasonable size squad and we've got some good players here like Colin Healy and Liam Trotter who have not played recently and they should be playing week-in, week-out.

"If I bring in players then I have to leave others out. That's why I'm happy if some of my players want to go out on loan.”

Earlier today, Keane confirmed that he will allow Pim Balkestein to extend his loan spell at Brentford.

Midfielder Norris is on his way back from a knee ligament injury and could be back in action as soon as the Christmas period, while Argentinian Luciano Civelli is unlikely to return until the end of January at best.

It is good that the manager is encouraging the players on the edges by mentioning them in public. It is a shame about the fans slagging them off at every opportunity... I made my mistake with Delaney and I'm now prepared to admit Keane knows more about his players than I do.
As for Lisbie... doesn't anyone else recognise a bit of negotiation when they see it?
Doesn't sound too hopeful for an early return to fitness for Civelli if Chuck us January and Unlucky Luciano is not mentioned.

keane said months ago the reason he is being called back in january is because clubs are interested in him.
beatie may not come to us no but he would step down if he had no other option as he only just came up from the championship.
paying wages for us isnt a problem for us if evans wants to and for kris boyd or beatie or any1 else that high caliber he could do far worse things and shipping lisbie and counago out would probably pay for that. the fact we would pay peanuts for boyd would also allow us to pay him more wages/incentives
and you wouldnt find much more of an instinctive prolific goal scorer than kris boyd to play at championship level that could be a realistic target someone make sure keane is aware of him and get evans to look at some wages we can offer lol

and also liverpool-blu we werent "supose" to get loads of loan signings we were looking at loads to try and get in, that doesnt mean there was loads available to actually come you deluded spud bashing scouser nor is it a measure of keanes ability to get players in it is purely evidance that players are A:unwilling to step down een for just a loan especially before xmas when they might get to play due to some injuries.....B: other managers not willing to let players go b4 xmas as they hav alot of games and might need their players atleast the ones of the caliber we actually want.

It might help if some people actually read the words that RK spoke - i.e. ""We might look at getting a loan or two..." - and he's already said how difficult it is to get decent players on loan.

So, a bit expectation management going on there.

petermorris said - "where did you get 21 Pablo goals 02/03 from? Include friendlies and training games did you?"

Try the club website:-

League = 17
League Cup = 1
UEFA Cup = 3

Even by my dodgy maths that adds up to 21. Some people's memories are so short!!!

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Funny, there are others I would apply that statement to instead...

This might be a bit of a unrealistic suggestion but maybe worth looking at.

James Beattie from Stoke on loan. He has had a bust up with Tony Pulis and is looking for a move away... We could loan him in Jan for the rest of the season maybe...

If the loans are quality, we should be okay...but is this really the 'team-at-the-top-of-the-table' attitude we need prior to (arguably) our most important transfer window in decades?

We should be doing our utmost to avoid thousands of devastated Ipswich households in May saying "OMG...we went down, Norwich went up...and we had the chance to sort it in January 2010".

It'll be interesting to see if we play out the rest of the season without a recognised/first-choice left back...maybe someone should remind him. Ah well....we've managed it for years....no point breaking the habit ;)

EUFA81 - "I have NO confidence in you Mr keane." REALLY? You've hidden your feelings so well up until now!! Then you post something derogatory about Keane quoting someone else with your negative views. Regretably, though I've now given you a response and recognition you don't deserve!

On a separate issue - I think Pablo should score more but also agree with some of you that he would prove more effectvie with the right person up there with him!!

It will come good and keano is the man for the job, have faith the rise will occur just how quick remains to be seen. If we can continue to defensively tight there is not much else he can do apart from put some Puma kings on and stick it in the net himself.
