Lee-Barrett Hoping for New Deal
Lee-Barrett Hoping for New Deal
Tuesday, 5th Jan 2010 11:41

Keeper Arran Lee-Barrett says he's keen to stay with the Blues beyond the end of his short-term deal on January 21st. The 25-year-old came into the Town side in the wake of Richard Wright's injury and Asmir Begovic's return to Portsmouth.

The one-time Blues academy scholar said: "Hopefully, the manager will see me as part of his long-term plans and offer me the chance to continue playing here as I have enjoyed it so much.

"Hopefully my future is with Ipswich, but if it isn't then hopefully I have done enough to secure a long-term deal with another club that has noticed my performances.

"My agent has told me that a few clubs are keen, but I have told him to see what Ipswich say first because I love it here."

Last week, Roy Keane said he would be speaking to the former Hartlepool man about a new deal, having been impressed with him during his time at Portman Road.

He's done well. No reason to cut him loose. He seems content to realise he'll be second or third choice. Wright is probably on his way out. Keep him. However if he's going to drop down the list and another team comes in offering first team football don't stand in his way.

Has done well enough to be rewarded with a contract. Been dropped in the deep end and has come up trumps in my opinion. Good luck to the lad.

(Can anyone explain what the first post was all about?)

Didn't know what to expect from Arran, but he's really done well...sign him up!

The first post was obviously somebody with their very own sense of humour, sadly none of the rest of us are quite on that guys wavelength!
Anyway, give him a new contract, at least 18 months not a short term one. He's done well, he deserves it. Can't see Wright playing again even when he regains fitness towards end of season. Not sure about Murphy, as in if he's really any good or not and what is he to Roy, number one or number two choice keeper? Are we looking to bring someone else in over the summer? (Begovic from Pompey when they're relegated will do!) But anyway you need three keepers to be honest as we've realised, with loss of form and injury to Wright, then the re-call of Begovic. God knows what we'd have done if Lee-Barrett had got injured in last few weeks.
He's done well when given his chance and although will probably never be our number one, he's proved he's good enough to step up when called apon.

Good enough for the first team here which has been proven, it is not often you get someone as good as hes been on a free as a last minute signing. Ipswich lad, living his dream, keep him in the side and give the bloke a real contract.

As for people slagging Wright off, hes done a bloody good job here in both spells. Last season he worked his backside off with a bad defence, same as early on this season but he kept us in games we should have been well out of. Made a few mistakes against Newcastle on TV and the armchair brigade start giving him stick.

He's a good keeper but his distribution & calling let him dow. He'll probably get something to the end of the season which he deserves.

Well and truely earned a contract. He has played generally very well and has shown he can stand up to the challenges at our level.

Deserves a contract until the end of the year - if he's good enough after that time will tell. I suspect Murphy will replace him at some point, but ALB has been far more superior than Wright, who appears to be injury plagued again.I don't think he will play for the club again.

Like most on here, def deserved a contract, but I would be concerned if I was Richard Wright.

Extend his current contract till the end of the season with some sort of first buy option built in. Then if either Wright doesn't get fit again or Murphy doesn't fit in then we know we've got someone who can work pretty well with the defence and has proven himself as a decent prospect.

Decent honest lad, got and a chance and grabbed it. He is obviously enjoying it and trying his butt off. So let's keep the guy, these are old fashioned values but worth rewarding. He has played for his contract and deserves the chance.

Agree with BuryBlue77; give him 18 months - he's played well and thoroughly deserves it. As for getting rid of Wright... what short memories SOME people have!! If we need three keepers, which we clearly do, Wrigh, Murphy and Lee-Barrett would do nicely! (In whatever order Keane sees fit).

RK needs to get rid of Wright, he's past it. Sign Lee-Barrett & hopefully get Begovic because of Portsmouth money trouble. Both palyed well for us.

Though he has done well he has not exactley had a match where he has made a succession of freat saves. People are getting carried away and his kicking vs palace was awful. As for Wright getting so much criticism it just shows how fickle supporters can be.
