Colback's Loan Rubber-Stamped
Colback's Loan Rubber-Stamped

Midfielder Jack Colback’s loan until the end of the season has been confirmed. Sunderland agreed that the 20-year-old could remain with the Blues last week but the deal has now been rubber-stamped.

Colback told the club site: "I have really enjoyed being involved with the first team here.

"I have gained so much from the experiences I've had here and feel I'm a better player for it.

"It was going to be down to the clubs if I stayed here but if the opportunity came up, that was always what I wanted to do and now I'm looking forward to helping the team enjoy a good second half of the season."

Boss Roy Keane has been impressed with Colback, who was a youngster at Sunderland during the Town manager’s spell at the Stadium of Light: "Jack has done well for us and we're delighted to have him here until the end of the season.”

Current Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is pleased with Colback’s progress at Portman Road: “Jack is getting some good experience down at Ipswich and that can only be beneficial for him.

"I'm sure he will return to us an even better player and I have already said he'll be part of the first team squad next season."

Meanwhile, reports claim the Blues and Middlesbrough are amongst the interested clubs set to miss out on signing Rangers striker Kris Boyd, who is understood to be close to joining Birmingham City.

So no chance of getting him next season. I like the phrase 'rubber-stamped'

Glad we have him until the end of the season, he is a fans favourite, never a passenger and when he has played really well he has had the touch more quality about him than the likes of Trotter who matches him for effort but gives the ball away more often in my view. As for next season who knows, If I was Bruce I would say he would be in my thoughts for next year, those words probably add £500k to his fee!
Up the town.... See any of you going at Leicester on Sunday, -10 permitting!!

To the tune of "Young, Gifted and Black", Bob & Marcia, 1969

"Young, gifted Colback
Oh what a lovely precious dream
To be young, gifted Colback
Open your heart to what we mean"
(repeat)

I like Colback, he has energy and tenacity and has already contributed 3 goals in a side which has a top scorer with just six! Would like to see him signed on a permanent basis for next year but don't really see this happening and, after all, it is a striker (or even two) that we really need to get the club buzzing. Nevertheless, let's enjoy Jack the lad for the rest of this season. A good loan signing by Keano to go with Rosenior and Begovic methinks!

I can't believe Colback is 20; he looks no more than 12.

Surely if Birmingham sign Boyd and/or Jones, we could have one of their surplus strikers here on loan. Phillips, obviously, would be first choice, but I've always liked McSheffery; and any of O'Connor, Jerome or McFadden would be an improvement for us.

i like the way Bruce tries to convince everyone that colback is part of his future plans at this early stage, thus adding to his valuation come the end of the season.

Good player but not what the club needs at the moment ....we all know we need a striker and i would rather see someone like Paul Kitson come down here for the rest of the season and get him up front to try to sort out the goal shortage....

Good news but like most good loanees - we won't get to keep him, unless.......................

No, too early to hope for promotion or is it?

I'm not sure what kind of a contribution 42 year old former Derby, West Ham and Leicester striker Paul Kitson would make to the team this season. Maybe he could make the tea?

Dave Kitson however would be a good shout. Though apparently he's the very definition of a mardy-bum and could have a detrimental affect on morale

The macums rate colback and they arnt doing that great at the moment so I'm suprised he was aloud to stay. I bet begovich wishes he was still here as he'd at least be getting paid!
