Lisbie Linked With Southampton And Town With Villa Defender
Lisbie Linked With Southampton And Town With Villa Defender
Wednesday, 20th Jan 2010 09:03

Town’s weekend FA Cup opponents Southampton have been linked with a move for Blues striker Kevin Lisbie, who is currently on loan at Colchester. Meanwhile, Town themselves are reported to be interested in taking Aston Villa defender Eric Lichaj on loan.

Lisbie is due to remain with the U’s until the end of the season, but the Blues are willing to listen to offers of permanent deals from other clubs for the 31-year-old. Colchester have said that they are unlikely to be able to afford the fee the Blues want for the striker.

The Town frontman previously played for Saints boss Alan Pardew at Charlton, but was released due to concerns regarding his fitness when at the Valley, although Pardew has since said that despite letting him go he rates the ex-Jamaica international.

Elsewhere, the Blues are said to want to take Aston Villa’s American central defender or right-back Eric Lichaj on loan.

Lichaj, 21, joined Villa in 2007 but is yet to make a first team appearance. Earlier in the season the 5ft 11in tall defender made six appearances while on loan with League Two Lincoln City. The Illinois-born player has been capped by the US at various youth levels.

A right-sided defender doesn’t look to be amongst Roy Keane’s most obvious requirements at present with right-back well covered with Liam Rosenior, David Wright, Alex Bruce and Jaime Peters all able to play there and Bruce able to cover for Gareth McAuley on the right side of central defence.

It won't be that long before Tom Eastman is ready to train with the first team based on his performance last night at Underhill

Why is it so hard to try and sign a striker will bag goals for fun?! Why are we being linked with defenders who have only played 6 games for a league 2 side n players like lee carsley n damien johnson why not go for kevin phillips if anyone at birmingham?! Or if keano really wants a defender or midfielder take the advantage of watfords n palaces financial crisis n snap up jay demerit n darren ambrose? I'm happy with the defence at the min our midfield is solid and just need a goal poacher upfront

Still all press speculation.
I know we all come on here every day to see which multi million pound international striker we have just signed...but until then we will have to put up with being linked with any player whose agent is trying to get them a better deal at their current club.

If Lisbie is being linked with Soton, then if there is any truth in it, it probably means Lambert is on his way, and yes i would like to see him here, but the reality is, he is being tracked by a number of PL clubs, and lets face it, where would you go?

Just one more thing, Wenger has publicly said that he feels Wilshere is not ready for regular premiership games yet, and would prefer him to "learn" elsewhere.....

Just me, but worth a punt?

Flip - thing is, a striker who will bag goals for fun will most likely be in his home club's starting XI. The best we can hope for is a youngster on loan to gain experience from a decent Prem club, or an aging veteran who could still put in a decent shift - like Kevin Philips as you said. We may be lucky and pick up an undiscovered gem from eastern Europe or Africa, but chances are that Prem scouts may have already been there! I'm sure there is still a wealth of Scottish talent available - historically it has been a good hunting ground for for many English clubs.

If he won't move from London to play for Ipswich, I can't really see him commuting to Southampton????

Good shout dobbie73 although I think that despite our league position our infrastructure at the club and promising form of late may tempt players of a slightly higher level.

Having said that now has never been a better time to go and raid a youngster or out of favour player from a premier league club. There are so many clubs in financial trouble up there now that it's something that can be taken advantage of.

1 million plus lisbie to soton would in my opinion be very good business. Whether Pardew would see that the same remains to be seen!

So what if its agents drumming up all the talk, its still interesting!!!!

I have to ask, where do these rumours come from? Is it possible to actually put a name to it for example "so and so from the aston villa back room staff saw Roy Keane speaking to such and such"

It is starting to get a little ridiculous.

I heard we were interested in signing James Beattie and David James.

Whilst if the right person does come along, who is of the right quality, then we must take interest. However, as the article suggests, a new right back is probably the last thing we need at the moment.

Due to his age and experience, I cannot see a Premiership team coming in for Lambert, after all he had only really come onto the radar playing for Bristol Rovers and Southampton. So I think that there is a good chance of attracting him to Championship football. A player plus money would be good business for Pardew.

As Gary said, Lisbie is unlikley to move home to Soton, but who says Pardew would force him? A quick trot down the M3 from London, he may be allowed to commute.

Still its all agent drivel positioning themselves ready for the mad panic on the last day of January. I'll start to get excited when we actually announce the arrival of a new face.

We're unlikely to sign Tamas Priskin again, I'd have thought.

If we can offload this shambolic JM signing then great - but I am afraid Lisbie is a money graber who seems to moan and blame everyone but himself. Roy knows what he is doing!
