Wright Making Great Progress
Wright Making Great Progress
Saturday, 6th Feb 2010 09:05

Keeper Richard Wright is ahead of schedule as he recovers from the knee ligament injury he sustained at Cardiff at the end of November. Boss Roy Keane says the former England glovesman is showing what a good professional he is.

The Blues boss said: “He’s making very good progress, I would say he’s three or four weeks ahead of schedule. We’re delighted with him. He’s even been out on the training pitch, doing little bits of mobility with Jimbo [James Hollman], the goalkeeping coach.

“You learn a lot about your players when they’re injured and he’s showing what a good professional he is.

“The goalkeeping situation has been a real disappointment for us this season. That certainly hasn’t helped us.

“But Wrighty’s a good professional, no surprises there, he’s making real good progress, but he’s in the hands of the surgeons and we’ll still have to wait and see what they say.”

The 32-year-old, who was initially expected to be sidelined until the end of March, is out of contract with the Blues in June.

I am very pleased for him, the problem comes when all 3 gks. are fit, like who is 1st choice and who is sub?? will Le Barrett be 3rd choice again?? It is a good situation to be in but a tricky one. Good luck to all of them !!!!!!!!!!

Send him out on loan when he's ready--no point in his hanging around.

Be good to have him back, I agree ALB has been doing well and playing well above himself but I worry that could end. Richard Wright is still the best goalkeeper ever to play with for Ipswich and would love to see him back.

Hope he stays, is his contract not up at the end of the season? I hope he's offered a new deal, he's Ipswich through and through and although some of his performances were not quite up to scratch at times it's difficult to keep clean sheets when the men in front of you aren't performing. Having said that, he's also made some crucial saves that have kept us in games. Good luck with your recovery Wrighty, hope to see you in a Town shirt again soon

send him out on loan Aaron Lee Barrett is a far better keeper than him. every since Richard Wright has been injured we have been conceding less goals.

Wright will surely never play for us again. Decent season last year, but simply awful this year. Can't catch, flaps and prone to making terrible errors. Time for him to move on. Cost us far too many points - remember Sheffield Utd away? No need to say any more.

How many games has Wright played behind Mac and Delaney? ALB has done extremely well but he is not in the same class as RW. Murphy is obviously a good goalie but an unknown quantity to most of us.I would imagine that when fully fit the first choice will be between RW and Murphy.

I think Wrighty should be given another chance. Firstly because he is Ipswich through and through but also because its not easy playing in an under confident team. I remember the amount of stick McAuley and Delaney got and the amount of people calling for them to go. There are not many people callig for them to go now. If he is fit and playing behind our current defence then is the time to judge him.
