Colback Pleased to Be Staying at Town
Colback Pleased to Be Staying at Town
Thursday, 18th Feb 2010 13:00

Midfielder Jack Colback says he’s happy to be remaining with the Blues rather than returning to his parent club Sunderland. Earlier this week, Black Cats boss Steve Bruce said he had no intention of recalling the 20-year-old from his loan until the end of the season, despite having a number of injuries at present.

Colback told the club site: "I think Steve Bruce has said that I will benefit more from staying here than going back to Sunderland, and that's fine with me.

"I would only have been cover there and would have offered a short-term solution. I wouldn't have been in the team.

"So, as the manager said, it's better for my development to remain with Ipswich and be involved with the first team every week.

"I've felt that from the start and I want to see out the season here and help Ipswich finish as high up the table as possible."

Colback as made 17 starts and eight sub appearances for the Blues this season, scoring four goals.

You're right, I forgot he scored a penalty, so now you think he's right up there with Tommy Miller!
As for Quinn at least he knows how to score goals in Sheffield.

Don't forget his 7 assists!!! which puts him about 8th in the Championship, He's the only player that looks capable of producing moments of quality, Quinn unfortunately is a player past his best, he has never really performed badly but has rarely put in a MOM performance.

Brockley - do you genuinely think we played a nice passing game under Magic? I am a massive Jim fan but could never understand how such a cultured player could send out a team to play such poor football. We spent far too much time bypassing the midfield, unlike in his playing days when he came short to collect the ball from the defence and started the passing game from there. Frankly we haven't seen decent football since Joe Royle left and I really can't believe I am saying that!

In terms of the team for Saturday, doesn't anyone else think that Walters looked incredibly unfit on Tuesday? My mates and I thought he had his worst game in a town shirt and think he has come back too soon from injury. If anyone in the midfield four deserves to be dropped based on Tuesday it is him (if only to give him time to recuperate properly).

Also, I can't agree with those saying the Colback was poor on Tuesday. Yes he was beaten for pace on a number of occassions, but virtually every time he got back to block the cross. Taking Garvan off, moving Colback to midfield and putting Peters at left back lost us the game. We lost Garvan's creativity and Peters simply didn't cope with the pace of the game in the same way that Colback had. To then take off Leadbitter was crazy. If Keano could stop making the same mistakes as Jim (swapping the team every game, making crazy tactical changes and playing players out of position) we might have a half decent chance not just of survival but of finishing mid table.

My team for Saturday:
Lee-Barratt (although he needs to sort out his distribution)
Rosenior, MacCauley, Delaney, Wright
Peters, Norris, Leadbitter, Colback (difficult to leave Garvan out based on Tuesday though)
Murphy, Counago

Anyone who doubts leadbitters ability, frankly, knows nothing about fooftball. Just because he doesn't score every game, play defence-splitting passes (though he does, sometimes) and do flash tricks, it doesn't mean that he isn't the best player to play for town since Darren Bent. Ok, that last bit is my opinion, but he is quality, no-one with half a footballing brain can deny that.

Anyhoo, I also really rate Colback and hope he stays with us beyond the end of his loan.

well i went to beter on tue and had a great time pity the footie was poor to say the least, i had forgot how a away game is such good fun as its been 20 years since the last away game i went to.

any how for me the biggest turning point was when garvan went of and leadbitter, quinn and peters was just out of there depth i felt.

barrett needs to stop kicking the ball up the pitch when he has ball in hand ( rugby talk), a quick feed to the back four is required with a quick pass to midfield then a killer pass to the forwards, whne we palyed blckpool and qpr at home this is what we was doing and we ripped the teams apart but lately barrett has just been hoofing it up the pitch and then its just a scrappy battle in midfiled.

also when we do get it on the pitch and playing the ball the faff around to much and there is no movement from other players neither.

also i would rather see either colback or garvan on the bench so atleast we can have fresh young legs and some skill to bring on the pitch when required because at the moment peters or quinn doesnt give that extra edge we need when coming on.

alos wighty must start at left back as with him in the backk line we always looked solid.

so come on keane sort it out or its p45 time matey boy

Interesting thoughts from Borge as i couldnt make out quite what was going on deep in the terrace. However, bearing in mind RK's thought process (or lack of) i can see him:

a) changing the keeper
b) playing d wright or even thatcher (55/45)
c) playing 451 using peters/leadbitter/norris/garven/colbeck combo
or d) 4411 swapping garven for pablo but asking pablo to lay back so that he can get better hold up play so that Town could attack with four.
i'd drop walters to the bench as he looks knackered as he's over used whereas jamie is full of running and make cause more trouble. And dont be surprised to see wickham return if late goal is needed for 3 points

Glad to see Colback will be with us for the rest of the season. He puts in a shift and has contributed 4 goals I think which unfortunately puts him close to top scorer! Totally agree with borge about Colback on Tuesday. Yes, once Reid came on he did get past Colback a few times but the lad never gave up and got back in to make a challenge. I could see the logic in putting Peters on to counteract the added pace but let's face it, he was way out of his depth defensively and we have all (including Keane) been deceived by Jaime's performances in that position against QPR home and away. The substitution of Garvan and the moving of Colback upset the balance and that was Keane's mistake on Tuesday. Could not understand taking Leadbitter off and there has been no talk of injury either. Have to agree with those who feel David Wright should be in the team at left back. He is not the best attacking full back but he can defend - the primary function of someone in that position. God, I'm doing alot of agreeing but also concur with some of the comments about Walters. He definitely put in the effort on Tuesday and I think he is fit but he failed to win much in the air and his crosses were very poor. His form (not effort) is worrying at the moment. Nevertheless, would still have him in there. My team for Sheff Weds would be as follows:

B Murphy
Rosenior MCauley Delaney D Wright
Walters Leadbitter Norris Garvan
Wickham Murphy

Subs: ALB Balkestein Colback Counago Healy Peters Martin

Unfortunately, can't be there - wife insisting I attend my daughter's birthday party - unbelievable (joke!!!!!)

Get behind the team with that vociferous away support and maybe that will push us on to the three points!

good to see most of us can at least agree Colback was a decnt Roy Keane signing. I also hoe he stays until the end of the season - but not playing at left back where he was poor.

If he grows his ginger loacks back he'll get even better!

He never stopped running on Tuesday night, shame he lacked the creativity and compsure we so desperately needed.

Grow your hair Jack!
(yes I am a ginger too)

Please please lets get behind the lads on Saturday. Banners wanting keane out and booing really isn't going to help our situation.

Unfortunatley I wasn't there on Tuesday but a few friends were and they said the atmosphere was electric and the team really let them down. I am sure the playersd won't want to do that twice in a week. If at the final whistle we have been tanked then voice your opinion. I for one will be clapping till my hand are raw.

COME ON YOU BLUES

healy will come good just needs games under his belt and would play o,connor at left back round holes round pegs at least we would have balance down the left hand side.

Interesting call on O'Connor steed. A left back playing left back - revolutionary methinks! I believe he scored twice for the reserves too. If he only has a one year contract then RK must have been expecting him to figure at some time during the season. I know he is just coming back from an injury but may well be worth a shout! Got to disagree with you on Healy though. He was our worst performer on Tuesday and that is saying something! A bench role for him would be the best bet.

I'm very pleased he's staying, and agree he's been one of the stand out performers of the season. He also seems to have his feet on the ground, and a positive attitude.

However, if we're going to be finishing in a woeful league position (which we clearly are), I would prefer us to benefitting for the long term by blooding our own youngsters. At least, the ones we haven't sold for peanuts...

colback has been a breath of fresh air at this club, the manager plays him out of position recently, yet he gets on with it and has not whinged or moaned like half of the team would, and actually i think he did well up until keane changed things around after half time, im sure colback would love to play back at his favoured cm position, but he is doing all thats asked of him, which to me is the sign of a good footballer, with the right attitude.
