Stead in Team of the Week
Stead in Team of the Week
Tuesday, 9th Mar 2010 10:34

On-loan Town striker Jon Stead has been named in the Football League’s Team of the Week after netting Coventry’s goal in their 1-0 victory at Peterborough on Saturday.

Stead has scored two goals in his last two games for the Sky Blues, having failed to net in his first two appearances.

Also in this week’s select team are Blackpool keeper Matthew Gilks, who helped prevent the Blues from scoring at Bloomfield Road despite having 22 shots on or off target, and former Town midfielder Darren Ambrose.

Team of the Week: Matthew Gilks (Blackpool), Matthew Connolly (QPR), Shaun Barker (Derby), Sean St Ledger (Preston), Chris Cohen (Nottm Forest), Darren Ambrose (Crystal Palace), Danny Guthrie (Newcastle), Alejandro Faurlin (QPR), Jon Stead (Coventry), Billy Sharp (Doncaster), Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (Doncaster).

Still don't understand why we sent him out on loan. Should have kept him at least until Murphy and Healy properly find their feet.

Mmm, another player leaves Keanes clutches and thrives

You don't let your clubs top scorer out on loan mid-season. Fact. Best of a bad bunch.

Not sure what the point of "Team of the Week" is, really. It's not as if that team gets assembled for real to play a game and prove a theoretical point is it ?

This just reinforces the fact that sending him out on loan was a stupid idea.

The incompetence of that decision is breathtaking. Keane & Clegg should go & run British Tennis!

So, as we've proved over the last two games that we couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo, will he be recalled?

I don't care if he was in team of the century I still don't rate him

If they run for a bus they'd miss it.

Little managerial tip for you Roy. If you want to solve the goalscoring problem, don't keep letting your best strikers go. You did it in the summer with Rhodes, and you've done it again with Stead. It's not rocket science.

stead our best striker what a joke his first was a miss hit 2nd a scuff he should pass more than he shoots and for a beanpole he cant head pleased he,s gone

this was a worse decision letting stead go than selling rhodes IMO, we didnt know if rhodes would have been any good at this level but it turns out we should have kept him. But atleast we knew what stead could do....he was our top scorer ffs, you dont loan out your top scorer, no matter how many hes scored. And hes proved that with his last two goals, which btw were quality, go watch them keane, then you might (im not holding my breath) realize what you let go and accept you made a stupid decision!!!

YEP, Steady, shows yet again R K s managerial skills,Oh well when we reach the heady heights of league one ,no doubt RK [who played for M U and is best mates with Sir Alex, and is a magnetic god for players seeking a transfer to better themselves] will realise the error of his ways . IN KEANE WE ARE BUST .

Oh dear, salt on wound, nice!
Didn't rate him highly but he did put in the effort and was highest scorer. Another questionable decision by RK. I think Murphy is a better player and Healy could be but these guys are rusty and can't expect them to hit top form straight away when they have been on the bench for months, which is where Stead would have still been useful. Perhaps if Pablo and Garvan are played a bit more they may have something to get on the end of? IMO both Murphy and Healy are useful players and could do well when fit and sharper. Shame Walters hasn't popped up with many goals this year, loads of effort but no end product for sometime.

Fantastic news, yet another reason for the moaners and whingers on this site to have a pop at everything and his uncle. (no I'm not sticking up for Keane, I'm moaning about the moaning, which is either ironic or hypocritical - I'll leave the pedants among you to figure that one out!)

Can we trawl through the site to see how many thought GMacauley was a complete donkey and should be shipped out at the start of the season and now people are saying he's been one of our best players this season and we'd be in direstraights if he was to get injured?

Stead was one of a long list of strikers who weren't upto the job before December, then he hits 4 in as many games before christmas to take his tally to 6 for the season, and then couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo again, but now we've let go he's the Suffolk equivalent of Alan bloody Shearer!

Connor Wickham is touted as the next best thing and then when he came on against Blackpool there were comments on here moaning because we're trying to rely on a 16 year old.

And then you get the same people who moaned about Burley, Magilton and Sheepshank now griping about Keane and Clegg - bitching on one hand whilst patting themselves on the back for being such fantastic supporters with the other.

Some people on here will NEVER be happy - Rant over, tough old game tonight boys - COYB

osborne1nil, I think Murphy will get goals, not knocking him, just feel Stead has been under estimated.

Bit confused Stead has not really done it for us this season. Top goal scorer yes but only with 6 and even with him playing we were still at the bottom and not scoring goals. I think he would have been usefully coming on from the bench but then he is no better than Counago. Two had to go out of Priskin Counago and Stead to pay for Murphy and Healy. IMO Murphy and Healy have a better chance of keeping us up than Stead and Priskin.

on dear oh dear, we let a player out on loan, he scores 2 in his first few games whilst match fit, and the player we get in to replace him scores 3 in his first few games, despite not playing first team football before joining us

I can see why everyone is so upset at this terrible piece of management. Some of you lot really aren't very bright.

The danger is with only a dozen games left and players trying to find form the season is running out.
IF M.E. said must get rid of another player to bring 2 more in then fair enough. My understanding was that Stead was enquired about and Keane said that with the 2 lads coming in he expected Stead to warm the bench and gave Stead the choice to stay or go out on loan. I'm not sure Priskin got enough runs in the team to judge but he hasn't done alot since going out on loan, perhaps Warnock will get more out of him?
