Keane Leaving Wickham Contract to Evans and Clegg Saturday, 13th Mar 2010 08:15 Boss Roy Keane says he is leaving securing striker Connor Wickham on a professional contract to owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg. Wickham is able to sign his first pro deal when he turns 17 on the 31st of this month. Keane said: “I’ve kept out of it and left it with the owner and Simon. There’s certain stuff I like to focus on and other stuff I think it’s up to the club to take care of. “But from a football point of view we’re delighted with Connor. He’s got a good attitude and seems a really nice kid. It’s very pleasing. He’s got a good chance. “If he’s looking for a role model maybe Wayne Rooney is the one he should be looking at. He’s got a bit of everything. “But what would help him would be his first league goal, no doubt. He’s had chances in some of the games and that might come against Scunthorpe. Who knows?” Previously, former Blue Paul Goddard, who works for Jonathan Barnett’s Stellar Group who represent Wickham, said that he expects the frontman to stay with Town, despite interest from a number of Premier League sides, including the big four. Wickham will be away from Town on his birthday as he will be with the England U17 squad.
