Town Weighing Up Brentford Offer for Pim
Town Weighing Up Brentford Offer for Pim
Thursday, 18th Mar 2010 12:48

Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that the Blues are weighing up whether to accept an offer from Brentford for Dutch defender Pim Balkestein. The Bees want their former loanee on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Keane said: “We’ve just had an offer for Pim about 10 minutes ago and we’ll give you more information on that in the next couple of days.

“It’s just come in, I haven’t even spoken to Pim about it, so we’ll see what happens. Obviously with Tommy Smith coming back we’re OK in terms of numbers, but we’ll see in the next 24 or 48 hours."

Balkestein played eight games for the Bees while on loan at Griffin Park between November and December, prior to Smith's spell with the League One club.

The Blues boss says that Smith, who was on loan with the Bees recently, won’t be going back out on loan.

Keane says Tuesday’s defeat and poor performance has again got him thinking about adding more loanees to his squad: ”Possibly one, maybe.”

Town have no new injuries ahead of Saturday’s game against Barnsley other than Alan Quinn, who picked up a groin injury in yesterday’s reserve game.

Surely the debate should be around the merits of Pim staying/leaving and the speculation around another loan player coming in. Not about the did he/didn't he talk to Pim first.

However, along those lines. I totally agree with naa - poor management of the situation!

As to whether Pim should go/stay. I think he just hasn't shown enough consistency to make me think he's really got it.

I like his commitment, and his size and speed are assets, but he makes way too many mistakes for me.

He'd need replacing though - either with youth or a signing, but it would be as squad cover only.

me too! I only made an observation which I still stand by, but you'd have thought I was advocating the death penalty for truants or something.

Another Jim player on his way out of the portman road roatating door. Young and possible talent going with the others....... I support keane, but don't give him much past xmas if things have not changed with the performances.

For all the "huff and puff" the current squad has........ we do lack a player either who has balls out pace ........ or a mind to create magic (counago excluded).

If you think back to Burley's team, we had a balance and one thing no team could do at portman road was out pass and perform. Rant over!

Some people just have no sense of humour. Get rid of him I say!

Definately the sort of player that needs to be phased out if we are going to reach the top level, lets face it hes not even good enough for a bottom half championship team, and i just dont feel he will ever push on, hopefully adios

Pim needs to go because he wont get regular first team action here as unfortunately we have better defenders than him. That will mean no dutchmen at ITFC though which is a rarity over the last 32 years

Naa -- I'm all for the death penalty for truants. Get them off the streets I say.

As for Pim, he has been a success at Brentford from the feed back I have had. Perhaps coming into the Championship was a step too far. I think he has the attributes to be a good player but he may need to learn his trade in the lower divisions first.

At the end of the day, pim is never going to take us forward. He is a average player and thats the end of it. Keane only simply said that they are 'considering' the offer. I dnt see why some people are accusing keane of bad management!

I get it in the neck for having a go at Keane but some of you on here are unbelievably loyal fans.
We take Pim an unknown 19 year old with no first team experience to speak of in Holland and stick him in the deep end and expect the performance of a veteran! If I was Pim I'd take the deal and run, if any manager of mine was prepared to talk to the press before me, about me, I'd be off. Keane yet again shows his lack of managerial skills and class.
If he goes I wish him well, given time to develop it may be yet another decision we live to regret!
