Rodgers Holds Town Talks
Rodgers Holds Town Talks
Saturday, 22nd May 2010 10:00

TWTD understands that former Watford and Reading boss Brendan Rodgers has held meetings at Portman Road to discuss becoming the club’s assistant manager. Last month, we reported that Rodgers was top of Roy Keane’s list of potential deputies, the Blues boss having decided to appoint an assistant at the end of the season.

Rodgers, who coached Jose Mourinho’s reserves at Chelsea, met Keane while they were studying for their UEFA Pro Licences and the two are close friends.

The 37-year-old Northern Irishman has been linked with a number managerial roles in recent weeks - including the MK Dons and Colchester jobs - but appears most likely to be joining the Blues before the start of the new season.

Meanwhile, Burnley are reported to have joined the race to sign Peterborough United midfielder George Boyd. Town, Derby County and Middlesbrough are also understood to be chasing the Scotland B international.

The Blues are eyeing Boyd, 24, for the problem left midfield role, but may be put off by Peterborough’s £2 million price-tag. Tottenham youngster Andros Townsend is viewed as a potential alternative option if ex-Stevenage man Boyd goes elsewhere or if the fee can’t be negotiated downwards.

Town also face a fight if Roy Keane wants Scunthorpe’s Gary Hooper to join his striking ranks over the summer. Hooper, linked with the Blues on a number of occasions in recent weeks, is again claimed to be a £2 million Celtic target in this morning’s papers.

Elsewhere, former Blues boss Jim Magilton continues to be linked with the vacant manager’s job at Colchester United with a bookie reportedly suspending betting on his appointment.

I like the idea Brendan I think be fits the bill perfect! On another note I was in turkey last week and watched Cardiff in the semi final with some Cardiff fans, they said down there it is common knowledge that should they not get promoted a deal has already been done with Ipswich for Chopra. Apparentley 4 mill! Anybody beard this?

Barhamblue:

Ive just posted a comment on the main board regardimng the issue of Chopra and us. And "yes" I can confirm that I too have heard Town have been in negotiations with Cardiff over Chopra since last December. But as with all of these rumours, you never know how mcuh of it is actually true. But I do think there is something in it.

Despite the horrendus season we had (because of abysmal start), I personally doent feel there is too much wrong with the core of this team. RK just needs to get in a couple of key players , striker, MF "playmaker", RB, and I also think another GK (not too sure about Murphy if Im honest!).

Cevilli will retrun (hopefully), and I can see RK making very good use of the season long loans to get in very good temprary playesr to help get us up. One promoted , better quality is more lielky to want to join a Premiership club than an "established" Fizzy league one !

How many assistants does he need? Are all the others additional coaches or now being moved on as this cost must be esculating although I noticed he has given Foley the boot (he wasn't Irish though so guess didn't fit)?

This headline suggests this is more than speculation from Phil. 'Rodgers Holds Town Talks' implies fact rather than possibility. Have the club confirmed this? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Brendon Rodgers the manager who got Tamas Priskin scoring goals for fun? Is MacParland still with the club? Rodgers, MacParland and Keane sounds rather fiery!

I think the key will be if we can get a SETTLED outfit. At the moment it looks like we could soon take on the Roman legions. We'll have enough troops, not to mention captains and generals. I can only assume some will be shipped off to Gaul before the coming winter campaign. Hail ITFC!

Brian Clough was a useless manager, because he needed Peter Taylor as Assistant.

In fact Clough was never quite so effective after they split.
