Tottenham Set to Make New Wickham Bid?
Tottenham Set to Make New Wickham Bid?
Tuesday, 8th Jun 2010 22:36

Tottenham are reportedly set to make Town a new bid of £8 million for striker Connor Wickham. Spurs previously offered the Blues £5 million for the 17-year-old, who as part of the proposed deal would have returned to Portman Road on loan next season.

That bid is now believed to have been turned down, but Harry Redknapp is said to be ready to offer £8 million to test the Blues’ stated intention to keep hold of one of English football’s hottest properties, with Town claimed to have put a £10 million price-tag on the England U17 international.

Last week, chief executive Simon Clegg insisted that Wickham is “an integral part of the squad for next season and going forward”, while the player, who signed a two-year contract in April, said he had “no intention of moving elsewhere”.

Just wanted to point out that Wayne Rooney was already a premiership player with Everton which could have had something to do with fact that he was sold for 30 mill...

Agree with the general consensus though, we always seem to pay over the odds and let our players go for next to nothing. 12 mill plus a loan back for the season plus lots of sell-ons should be minimum...

Sorry but £8m for a 17 year old is silly money and whatever some on here think Evans will take a serious look at it and I think he would accept it. If there is a clause to loan him back for a season then fine. £8m will fund quite a few signings that the side desperately need.

Some fans are really living in fairyland. Some saying that with Wickham in the side - possibly paired with Chopra - means promotion is very very laughable.

Get real people - money talks even for Town - if the story is true then I think it could happen.

At the end of the day it is down to money and the wages Spurs could offer a 17 year old is mind boggling so why shouldnt the boy take it. No one has any sort of loyalty in football, it is all about money - money that would set Wickham up for the rest of his life

Sell I say and use the money to bring in the 4/5 players the side needs to hopefully do better than last season

but with more money to spend we will buy more unproven and potentially ''bad '' signings..... priskin healy martin edwards et al. given that we can pay we will be made to pay.

If we let Wickham go I want an Evans out Campaign.

He should be not for sale at any price this season that should be made public.
sure its an risk in the injury sense.
But we have the right to have him as our player for a year, none of this loan back crap. we all no keaneo would just waste the money like last year.

Agree with ThatMuhrenCross

If he is the next big thing, then why sell him now?
Wayne Rooney went for 30 millon, but would of gone for 10 if he would of gone first season.
They held on to him for another season, while he scored goals, and the price went up.
Why cant we do that!
Everyone get out of your heads, we are fine finacally! So stop worrying, he will be here next season, i just know it!
COYB!

As well as what's best for the club, what's best for the player? And what's best for football? Connor Wickham is a very young man. As many wise football people have said over many years, 'Ipswich is a good club for you to learn your trade.' Leaving Ipswich for the bright lights of London cost Richard Wright a great career. Let good counsel prevail for Connor.

Hmmm Tough one, if they offered 10m plus loan him back and future sell on clauses then it would be tough to turn down tbh, blackpool went up with a team purely on team spirit rather than superstars.

But on the other hand ME has money so we dont need to sell...

If we sell for less than 20 mil to that hideous little man Redknapp, my season ticket for next year will be at Heybridge Swifts.

suffolk-n-good- Where did you get "clegg would sell his grandma" from? what is the strength behind that comment? Also, as much as I would like to see Gio back, does he want to come to the chumpionship? Tricky one with CW. A lot of money for a young lad and could fund a back bone of a team. However with such a talent who is only progressing he could prove to be such a vital cog next season. Head or heart?

They didn't loan us Gio this season and now they want us to help them?

IMO Clegg doesn't have the best interests of ITFC in his heart, he is just purely ME's "puppet" -he reminds me of "Smithers" (Mr Burns sidekick) in the Simpsons!!!

We've got nothing to lose by keeping him, if he is as good as they say his value will only go up, especially if we gain promotion.

I don't even know why we're discussing this, CW has said he's not going anywhere, Keane has said only CW and Walters are the players he would not consider selling and Cleggy Weggy has said Wickham is an integral part of the team next season.

My mouth is watering at the prospect of Chopra and Wickham, with Leadbitter and Norris behind them and McAuley and Delaney behind them, just need to get the wings sorted!

FCUK Off Spurs! He is worth much more and if we are going to challenge to be promoted selling him would show the lack of intention and aspiration of our club! Keep him and bring in chops... The pair would be a huge success and would in turn get us where we want to be.
Also if he plays regularly and reaches anywhere near his potential (Rooney like but better!) we could sell him for £30million... Evans doesn't need the cash - But what a test! Keep him and build the team/club for us all!
£8million will not get us a replacement anywhere near his ability and lets face it we do struggle to attract sh*t hot players generally...

its simple.

its a no.

our future ambition is to be a premiership club, and we have to keep our best players to get there.

What idiots actually believed we were going to buy Chopra for 4mil & not sell Connor!!!

MaySixth added 09:19 - Jun 9
Turn any bid down.

If we go up thanks to Wickham we recoup it back.

If we don't go up then we look to sell and at his agae we should still fetch a very hefty price.

corshamblue added 09:27 - Jun 9
If he extends that 2 year contract then fine, flip side is sell him and take him back on loan. Bring in Chopra [a known goal scorer] Yes Conner is a Ipswich Lad, but 8m + keeping him for a year. Get real, we sold Dyer and then Bent for 3m+ - why wouldn't we sell an 17yo with potential for £8m?

He'll not fetch a hefty price if he doesn't bag 20 goals - again flip side, we all know he will - that's why he's attracting 8m bids.

What ever is best for ITFC long term is most important - If there's fund for Chopra and a few others without selling Conner, it's a no brainer.

Don't sell.
The one thing Keane did consistently last season was waste money.
If he buys more Martins etc he could easily blow £8 on reserve team players.

Gary added 09:55 - Jun 9
from the Daily Mail, the same paper who stated we are giving Keane over £4 million to bid for Chopra but on the same day stated we were replacing him with Steve Cotterill, hmmm!

Anyone else heard the rumour circulating about RK and Liverpool?

welshtractorboy added 09:59 - Jun 9
If we sell (like most dont want him to go) 10 mil---offer Cardiff 7 mil for Chopra and Wittingham----Gio part of deal,Wickham back for season, leaves 3 mil for another couple of targets-+ what we recoup for selling etc etc etc.
We go up----- ????
