Mowbray Again Linked With Return
Mowbray Again Linked With Return
Wednesday, 9th Jun 2010 15:16

Former coach and skipper Tony Mowbray is again reported to be in line to succeed Roy Keane as Town manager. Rumours that Mowbray recently spent time at Portman Road have been circulating for some days with a national newspaper claiming on Monday that the ex-Celtic boss could take over from Keane before the season starts.

According to the latest report, Mowbray met with owner Marcus Evans over the weekend and may be seen as a potential successor to Keane should Town start 2010/11 poorly.

It is unlikely that such a meeting could have taken place over the weekend with the 46-year-old having been on holiday with his family in Florida since late May.

Mowbray is currently on gardening leave having been relieved of his duties at Celtic at the end of March. Until an agreement is reached regarding the termination of his Parkhead contract, the ex-West Brom and Hibs boss is unlikely to take another job.

Speculation regarding Keane’s future had all but disappeared since chief executive Simon Clegg dismissed widespread claims that his sacking was imminent back in March until returning earlier this week.

if we were to sack Keane now, another season of instability would follow! Keane appears to be building a solid team and to be honest who cares what style of football we play as long as we win!

We hear about Mowbray being in Florida, I would not be surprised if Marcus went up to see Mowbray, especially if he was at his office in Bermuda, because we all know that he is a much travelled man. Mind you this is all rumours again !!!!!! But as a assistant manager I would agree to that, but I do not think Mowbray would want to be an assistant manager. any comments !!!!!!

This Mogga as boss story is a complete load of bollarks tbh...... and the Evening Star really DO piss me off with their cheap, inacurate journalism. It is purely to sell their rag in the close season and has minimal truth IMO.

GARY MEGSON! would be a quality manager. commands respect but wouldnt object to the direct style of passing the lads are used to. would bring in some quality football players like robinson. also we could get elmander pretty cheap and he'd defo score 20+ goals a season. MEGSON IN! KEANE THE inefficient machino OUT!

goat man I agree right up to the point when you said "and" then I disagree with you. I want to see decent quality passing and width, players giving 100% and if we lose at least we played. I personally do care what style we play.

As for the Mowbray story, look we would all be bored solid if TWTD news board had nothing on it for 1 whole day. Goodness knows how many times I go to the official site to see items of no news importance at all. In fact im unsure the last time I read an article on the official site.

Personally all this instant media is the problem. Go back to the good old days when you got news after something actually happened not speculation and opinion on nothing of no interest.

Give me facts, give me accuracy that sall please

Gary Megson??? Hang your head in shame!

Whether Tony Mowbray is actually lined up or not, the speculation over RK's future is starting to become a self fulfilling prophecy. It looks like it will take an excellent start to the season to secure his job. These rumours will only get louder and a dip in form could signal the end.

I think much will depend on RK's transfer targets this summer. If they are realistic, can be brought in in good time and not at a massive expense, and make an impact of some sort, this will make RK's position much more secure. If we have a repeat of last year's shambolic pre-season, I suspect RK will be moved on very soon.

@DMFHI I have been supporting the club since Bobby Robson took over and we had plenty of people wanting to get rid of him then....Too young, too inexperienced, was a failure at Fulham, and people were claiming we were playing crap football...and how dare he go up against the Ipswich legend Billy Baxter who was Mr. Ipswich! Remember all these charges against him the first few seasons? But Mr Cobbold would have none of it and backed BR and look what happened.

So before you deem to speak for me, I suggest you ask first because I totally disagree with with your post................

Keane isn't fit to clean Mowbray's slippers, no way would he want to be his assistant.

I reckon Mogga would be great as assistant manager... because we could watch him brooding in the dugout all the way to early December and then, briefly, lose it and floor Keane with a single punch. Might have a negative impact on his chances of taking over, though.

Rolly, keane did indeed keep sunderland up, but he spent 40m on top of the 10m he spent to get them up. He then spent another 30m the next season....as one sunderland fan told me, "my nana could have got them up and kept them up with the money that man had to spend".

If mogga had 40m to spend west browm would have stayed up and more of the players he bought would have not been dumped by the club than happened. If the money is not a significant factor then get keane to do the job without spending any more.

I had hoped when he was appointed and actually believed keane may have learnt from his mistakes, but its seems he hasn't...talk of him being a changed man just doesn't fit with what we know about him, he's not a man to change his way of doing things.

RE: @Wicked Blue - Please please please do not compare Keane to Bobby!!

Absolutley, a man of great dignity and fair mindedness, v's.....well, a man who spouts off on any subject he likes and admits to deliberatley trying to end a players career.

Monkey_Blue added 11:41 - Jun 10
I'd also add the only reason people compare the two is that bobby didn't have the greatest of starts, so its one of the very few arguments in keanes favour...

Most managers who have such a bad start, don't end up becoming very sucessful at a club, for every example of a positive turn around there are many more where the manager was allowed extra time and things didn't improve.

Bobby was given the chance because he was the man he was, Keane does not deserve same treatment. ANY comparison for ANY reason is not acceptable.

Why would mogga want to be keanes assistant? He's managed three clubs and would be a hot bet for a big champ club if a role becomes free.

who says they need speculation?
you might want it, but why would the 'club' want it?
i have worked in the media for 35 years and can tell a slow news day story from a zillion miles away, you have to remember all the best hacks are in South Africa and the boys have been left behind to fill the redtops with anything until a real story like - defoe shagged a spingbox - comes along.
Mogga is a nice guy, he had his chance at Portman Road but didn't grab it, WBA played pretty football but had no back bone so were quickly relegated, he was sacked for nearly coming 3rd in 2 horse race in Scotalnd. He has the charisma of a doormat, as far as PR is concerned for the club it would be like lurching from the sublime to the rediculous.

you miss the point, keane will only appoint someone he can trust, how could that possibly be Mogga who would bite his hand off to get a job at Portman Road
