Town’s derbies with Norwich City have, as expected, moved after requests from the local police forces.

The match at Carrow Road will now take place on Sunday 28th November (KO 1.15pm), while the Portman Road game is now set for Good Friday, April 22nd (KO 1.15pm).

The game with Col Who , which admittedly isnt on this season, has always been rougher lately in and around the ground than the canary derby. Total overreaction by people who are either paid by the club or us the tax payer. Last time we played the canaries had the usual escort in and those that were sitting lower Cobbold had to go through the police cordon to get in which led straight into to Town fans who were courteously told them " yes ole mate yoo goo thru heyu tu git in". Its East Anglia ffs. not exactly known as a hot bed of danny dyer inner city violence.

They don't pay overtime for these kind of games, they cancel police officers rest days months in advance and give them an owed rest day in return, even if it falls on a bank holiday.

The football club have to pay for police inside the ground, but outside its down to the police to sort it / resource it.

Like someone else commented, the other forces deal with their game with 3pm kick offs on saturdays because for example the Met have 37,000 police officers at their disposal. Suffolk has somewhere around 1,500 or maybe less.

Having said that I'd have preferred to see these kinds of games on Sat at 3pm, but it's become the norm so I just don't let it bother me!

@Lightningboy

Maybe so: but according to the Football Rivalries Report, compiled in 2008, the East Anglian (a.k.a. 'Old Farm') derby is supposed to be the 2nd fiercest rivalry in the country. Only the Black Country derby (West Brom vs Wolves) tops it. You can read more about it here:

http://www.footballpools.com/football-fever/index.html

One of the factors they took into account when deliberating this was to do with 'off-the-field factors, such as media coverage of the rivalry', I think the very fact we're posting about it in our droves just compounds it.

Perhaps the Plod should talk to the fixture panel before dates are announced then we wouldn't get this hysteria.

Perhaps the Plod should tell the media to play down the rivalry hype.

Then maybe either constabulary could control 2000 visiting fans at all ticket games

PS, I can't be bothered with the away game anymore, what with transport difficulties and the attitude of police in the way we're herded to & from the ground makes it a joke day out.

bluechick:

So because you're herded from the station to the ground thats enough to make you want to miss out on the chance of the 2nd fiercest rivalry in english football*?

You're missing out then mate if that's all that's holding you back!

Blueknight85 do you not think the Police have better things to do than deal with stupid complaints from stupid football fans. The Police act upon intelligence and previous knowledge, let them do their job, to be honest who gives a flying Feck what day the games on, so long as we beat the Scummy Canaries!!!

Perhaps we should stop moaning about a pointless topic and just enjoy the fact that we are playing the scum again next year!

No they dont have anything better to do other than overprotect the wrong areas of town on weekend nights and mess with football matches for no reason.
everything else comes seccond,
They cant even catch a group of car thieves put on a plate for them just watch them escape as they drive past them....!

It's about time that the Club stood up to Suffolk Police and refused to play on a Good Friday, which is for some, a day of religious significance.

Haha, stood up to the police! Yeah best of luck, think you may lose that one Ipswich Town!
