Sheepshanks Backing Capello
Sheepshanks Backing Capello
Thursday, 1st Jul 2010 17:14

Town director and FA board member David Sheepshanks is backing England boss Fabio Capello, despite his side’s dreadful showing at the World Cup in South Africa. Sheepshanks and the rest of the FA board are set to meet to discuss Capello’s future next week.

Sheepshanks said: "Let's get this right. Fabio is tremendously able - one of the world's best managers - and a month ago I don't think you'd have heard many people disagree with that. He doesn't become a bad manager overnight.

"Knee-jerk reactions never work. There are some very, very able and wise people around the FA board table and I have absolute confidence that they will come up with the right decision.”

Fellow board member Phil Gartside, the Bolton chairman, and Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA's director of football development, have also backed Capello since England’s World Cup exit.

Town manager Roy Keane said on Monday that he felt the players were more to blame for England's early return home than Capello.

Oh yeah, and Keane is blaming the players for the crap showing rather than blaming Crapello?? Wondering if our witless messiah will slag off the Ipswich players when he eventually walks/gets the boot.

It is the players. They are individuals and have never really made it as a team. They fall apart under intense play when teams retain the ball better. Capello is the general. It really suprises me that he is getting quite as much abuse, we have beaten or drawn with all comers including Holland and Co in his tenure.

Lampard has never performed in an England shirt. Rooney has failed especially versus N.Ireland, Russia and Germany. Gerrard lost it last season. Terry can't work to his best capability with anyone other than the Chelsea defence.

Just because we looked ordinary at World Cup 2010, as did Italy. However there is something afoot and if Capello doesn;t clear out the team then maybe we need someone who will just replace the Germany starting 11. Thats what I will hope for.

IpswichElvis - Surely the players are partly to blame? It is not all Keane's fault. It is a team game.

It's the manager's job to motivate the players asamink. Do you think Blackpool got promoted because they had outstanding players? No, of course not - they got there because the manager bought the right players, motivated them and got them playing as a unit. I am not saying that our squad has no talent, far from it. However, Keane just seems to mosey along, chopping and changing his team and formation and hoping he gets the right formula. Oh yes, and assaulting team tactic boards at half time don't motivate many players I would suspect !!!

I hate to say this but I have less faith in the FA than I do Roy Keane.

That's Capello doomed then!

Keane is partly to blame, but it is not all his fault. Some of our players think they are better than they really are. Bruce, Quinn, Garvan, Pablo, Stead, Lisbie, Edwards, Priskin, Quinn etc. They have potential, but showing it also comes from within, rather than from outside.

regardless of the Germany game. The teams Capello put out should of comfortably beaten Algeria and USA. It is not capellos fault it is the team. Although i do think we should have an English manager such as Redknapp or Stuart Pearce. Someone to restore passion and pride amongst the overpayed primadonas.

what an idiot!!

Sheepshanks is the Lembit Opik of the football world..

(BTW - the stuff on the net about the activities of an eng player that we are not allowed to mention - free country??!! - might well have a bearing on england team spirit.. maybe the moral rectitude of the holder of captains past and present was an issue?? )

Eng - good spin we only lost one game
bad spin - we only won one game.

any similarities with RK early tenure. Square pegs round holes, players uncomfortable with what they are being asked to do.

the best managers pick a formation and the players that fit. Capello seems to pick the best players and try to make a formation out of them.

maybe the players just missed the WAG's

Maybe David B was not an insperation.

IpswichElvis, agree, I don't think Capello will take us to the 'Promised Land' perhaps 'A Little Less Conversation' and more action on the pitch !!

Maverick - the players confidence is "Way Down" under Capello and Keane. If they both get the push they will be heading down to "Heartbreak Hotel" in their "Blue Suede Shoes" before "Cryin in the Chapel" Thank you very much !

To avoid that Maverick - "He'll Have to Go" because, like a lot of fans, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"
