Clegg: Deals Could Be Done Before Exits
Clegg: Deals Could Be Done Before Exits
Thursday, 15th Jul 2010 20:23

Chief executive Simon Clegg says boss Roy Keane will be given the cash to sign the right player at the right price before any unwanted members of his squad are moved on. However, Clegg says no deals are currently imminent.

The Blues chief executive says potential targets are being eyed: “There is nothing likely to happen for a while, but we have players we are looking at and if it was thought they would make a big difference — and the price was right — a deal could be struck without having to clear the decks first.”

A fortnight ago, Keane revealed that the Blues had failed to land his main two targets, understood to be Crystal Palace skipper Shaun Derry, now with QPR, and Cardiff’s Michael Chopra, but felt that one of those deals could be revived.

Clegg and owner Marcus Evans are keen to reduce the wage bill and the club have circulated a list of eight players who are available for transfer.

Last week, Crystal Palace boss George Burley made his interest in midfielder Owen Garvan known, but Keane denied that the Blues had received a formal bid.

Good to see that gullible Town fans still fall for the meaningless tripe peddled from discredited Portman Road so readily.

What a bundle of fun you must be tractorgeek, lighten up!

As for Cleggs comments, I agree with what people are saying, I think they've realised they need to get people in and start the 'merry go round' themselves, otherwise we'll leave it too late to bring players in. Pablo and Garvan can still do a job but the other 5 need to be shipped out asap.

When you see the ammount of decent players on the free transfer list by the FA its crazy that we havent picked out anyone from that let alone splash out money on somebody. What we have wasnt good enough last year and in my belief the league is stronger this year so how are we expected to get out of it.You cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

why does ne1 on here believe the squad we have is good enuf 2 finish in top 6. we finished 15 last season, & have lost 4 players already, including the loan players. few of those left r gud enuf, without sum new blood 2 achieve nething near a top half finish. with the 1st month of our season, we cld well b adrift at the bottom, as last year, so reinforcements badly needed. wld love 2 b proved wrong on this, & whoeva wears the shirt at start of season will get my support, but really fear 4 us this year. unless we can get a couple of signings in that is, especially a striker. & oh, svendust, give it up with the pabs can do a job 4 us. we need a 20 goals a season striker, not 1 that scores 2 in 2 seasons.

Either Jason Roberts or Michael Chopra would be the perfect experienced strike partner for Wickham and both have good goal scoring records at this level. With such little talk in the press regarding a creative midfielder/winger coming in I'm starting to think that Keane believes Martin and Edwards will show their pre-Ipswich pedigree and that Civelli is over his injury. I agree with whoever said that they would like another right back to come in.

If I was Keane this is what would do 1st of all we need get rid of the players who aint going to play who are taking up the wage bill these are Alan Quinn, Colin Healey, Alex Bruce, Tamas Priskin, and I personally would sell Jon walters to the highest bidder. I know everyone loves him but he really isnt all that anyone can work hard without any end product. Keane uses him mostly outwide and he cant cross or beat a man we need quality in wide positions so lets go all out for Darren Ambrose can play on either flank and has end product also why are we not going for players from league one or two like Burley did these are players who are hungary to improve have the desire to make step up, what the point in keep getting premiership has beens or no hopers what incentive have they got to drop down and earn less? none what so ever so Keane go for youngsters with something to prove or experienced championship league one players we could get Lambert from southampton we could had jackson from gillingham hooper from scunthorpe that youngster from tottenham townsend on season loan I would sign bradley orr at right back and lee naylor left back. we need quick powerful players not just the same one paced player.

ipswich 24, u answered ur own question abt why we dont get players frm lge 1 or 2? jon walters is the perfect example. bought frm chester 4 peanuts, has 1 grt season, bcse as u said he hungry 2 improve, but then drop bck 2 his true ability. yes, he works hard, as u say, but simply not gud enuf. at end of the day, if u pay £100,000 4 a player that in general, unless u lucky, is wot u get, a £100, 000 player.

To be fair of getting sick of all the crap and spin that comes out of portman rd these days!! Get your finger out Clegg, Evans and Keane!! You promised us fans promotion within two seasons and yet us fans had to put up with the worst season that most of us can ever remember!!! What is going to be different this season then Clegg?? Stop all the crap and get on with your job of offloading players and bringing in new ones as i for one wont take another season like the last one!!!

I think we WILL see some movement now... RK had his hands tied by ME/Clegg who DID say we must reduce the wage bill first. They have obviously seen the light and will now allow the right player/players in at the right price. (No issue with that, as I think we over paid a fair number of our more recent signings) So now we need to find the right players... Middle of next week is my predicition... Let's wait and see!

Its about time you woke up SC/EVANS. I just hope its not to late to sign a couple of quality players. Poor leadership from them as keane knew exactly who he wanted but you could'nt deliver the deal. COYB lets get the cheque book and sign chopra and co!!!!

To Little To late from the board.

Most decent realistic players are gone elsewhere. Two of our main targets are not coming. Lets hope a few get released soon for us to pick up.

Why is it that this club says one thing yesterday, and the near opposite the day after.

SeriouslyDelusional added 13:48 - Jul 16
We don't need any new players anyway, unless a significant number of the unwanted 8 actually go elsewhere.

We can win this league with the existing squad

Did anyone else look at our squad the other day when the numbers were announced and laugh out loud about how poor it is?

SiBo added 14:12 - Jul 16
Jim: Noipe, I looked at the squad and thought if they play to their potential we only need a couple of extra players to have a decent side, why didn't you?
