Cardiff Defender Linked
Cardiff Defender Linked

Town boss Roy Keane has been keeping an eye on Cardiff City central defender Gábor Gyepes, according to reports in Wales. The Hungarian international is unlikely to be in Dave Jones’s first team and may move on in order to play regular football.

Cardiff, who are currently subject to a transfer embargo, are hoping to sign former defender Glenn Loovens on loan from Celtic by the time the season starts, leaving them with five centre-halves. The Blues are likely to be looking for additional central defenders with Damien Delaney out for three months with a thigh injury and Alex Bruce expected to move on to Sheffield United.

Budapest-born Gyepes started his career with hometown club Ferencváros, joining Wolves in 2005 after a trial.

A cruciate knee ligament injury in March 2006 led to fears that his career might be over and saw his Wolves contract terminated. But, after recovering back home in Hungary, Gyepes won a deal at Northampton Town in January 2008. The following summer the 29-year-old moved on to Cardiff for £200,000.

Gyepes, who is married to Hungarian figure skater Diana Poth, scored the second of Cardiff’s goals in their 2-1 defeat of the Blues at Portman Road in December 2008.

Capped 26 times by his country, scoring one goal, 6ft 3in tall Gyepes is contracted to Cardiff until 2012.

Gyepes is the second Cardiff player to be linked with the Blues this summer with Town's efforts to sign striker Michael Chopra still understood to be ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Blues continue to be linked with another Hungarian, Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop. Newspapers in the North-East expect an offer thought to be in the region of £1 million made by Town earlier this week to be accepted by the Black Cats. Fulop is understood to be weighing up whether to join the Blues with West Brom previously linked. Chief executive Simon Clegg is currently away from Portman Road but is still involved in club business by phone.

While Fulop looks likely to be on his way out of the Stadium of Light, former Blue Titus Bramble has completed his £1 million switch to the Wearside cub from Wigan.

if the goal keeper story is correct then it is madness. a 1 million fee plus wages would totaly wipe out the wage savings of getting rid of r wright!

If this defender isn't good enough for Cardiff's first team - why bother?! Surely we're more ambitious than this?

He's run out of Irish players (thought i'd be the first one to get that one in)

Norwichbeater totally agree.

With Murphy and Lee Barrett I really don't see the urgency in signing a keeper when we are short in so many other areas. What money there is really should be used in other areas that need it more.

The whole summer has been a let down concerning signings. I'm sick of all this keeping an eye and keeping tabs on players. The season starts in only a couple of weeks and the powers that be really need to start pulling their fingers out.

An international centre-back who is a better player than the one he would be replacing (Alex Bruce).

Would probably cost us the same amount as we'll recoup for selling Bruce to Sheffield United.

Would provide experienced cover at CB for Damo / Macca if Smith, Brown and Eastman aren't quite ready.

Would give Priskin someone to chat to in foreign at club barbecues ;^D

What's not to like about signing him up?

Saw this one at Portman Road in 2008 and he had an outstanding game. True it was 2 seasons ago but I couldn't careless what nationality he is as long as he does a job for us. And it really is a naivety to suggest that because he dosent fit into one teams plans he is not good enough for another.

OMFG How can this possibly be possible how on earth can we be linked with a defender at the same time as being linked with a goalkeeper ...!!! i ddint know we could sign or be interested in more than one player at a time i gues it really doesn't mean a goal keeper is seen as more urgent!! :O:O:O (can you sense the sarcasm)

Norwich beater.. Wright was not let go to save wages full stop to not be used again... why do people keep bringin it up.. he wasnt worth the wages he was on so was let go so we can get someone who is... is it that hard to understand? the reason it has been said that we ned to save wages is because we need to let some wages go before we can replace them so we dont get stranded with to high a wage bill if certain players cant be moved on not because we need to reduce the wages and keep it low

Morning GITS (copyright G Smallpiece San Salvador). Old Keano had a decent goulash a while back round at Priskin's gaffe. Now he's obsessed with Hungary. Someone (and I am he) ought to tell him that Hungarian names are largely unpronounceable and murder for Brenner Woolley on a Saturday after lunch. Town have got enough of them anyway in the skinny form of Tamas. How about Martin and Priskin as a strike force to put the wind up the opposition? They sure put the breeze up me. FORK! POMS! COYB!

ITFC Alex : Cool name, sounds like Gayboy to me!! Seriously tho, why do people always moan about players who are 'linked'. There's generally no truth in it anyway. You can only really moan about a player once they have pulled on a town shirt say 10 times and after that are rubbish! PLEASE SIGN WITH US CHOPRA!!

Talks with Cardiff will go on and on and just as we think we are getting somewhere Dave Jones will sign for Fulham (he is currently favourite for the job) and we go back to square one while we wait for them to find & sign a new manager and he figures out who he does & doesn't want/need.

This'll never happen, this lad isn't a part of the Sunderland reserve side, this is clearly a wild tabloid rumour.

Oh. 5th choice Cardiff centre back. I can barely contain my excitement. But it is just rumour. Although can't we have some more exciting player rumours? I remember in magiltons day being linked with the likes of charisteas and players of that level.
