Keane: Priskin More Settled
Keane: Priskin More Settled

Boss Roy Keane says striker Tamás Priskin is more settled at the club this year and is pleased with the Hungarian’s performances so far. Priskin netted his first home goal for the Blues on Saturday to set Town on their way to their 2-0 victory over Bristol City.

Keane said: “Tamás is a talented boy. We work with the boy every day and we looked at him before he came to the club. Sometimes, particularly strikers, need a bit of luck and let’s be honest, when he came to the club last year we weren’t exactly flying or playing with loads of confidence.

“Strikers need to be getting chances all the time. Tamás had some last year, but it didn’t work out for him, but he got his chance up at Middlesbrough and took it, he scored today, had a hand in the other goal and was unlucky with another shot which went just past the post.

“Tamás is a talented boy,” Keane continued, “but like any player at the club, we always want that bit more and there’s more to come from Tamás. He’s still young and I think the hardest position on the field is striker. I’d love to say midfield because I played there, but I think striker’s a hard role at a football club.

“He’s settled into the football club now and I think Márton Fülöp coming in has helped him, he’s comfortable with Márton. We’re pleased with Tamás, he’s a good player.”

The Blues boss says Priskin’s fellow frontman Jason Scotland benefited from the Carling Cup tie at Crewe in midweek: “I think the run-out the other night helped him, it gave him a feel for the club and the players.”

“I think there’s more to his game than just [sniffing out goals], I think his hold-up play was decent. But there’s a lot more to come from Jason, remember he didn’t play a lot of football at Wigan in pre-season because he didn’t seem to be in the manager’s plans.

“So,there’s a lot more to come from Jason and Tamás, and hopefully over the next few weeks we might have some of our injured boys back. But I still think we’re short of players. I’m glad we go into the break with no more injuries or suspensions.”

Keane is also delighted that his other Trinidadian is becoming increasingly influential: “Carlos got married for a second time in the summer, maybe we should all get married twice, it’s probably cost him a few quid but he’s come back with a spring in his step!”

The Town manager says the trials and tribulations of pre-season have ended up helping the squad: “The expectations will obviously rise and you have to deal with that and enjoy it. When we came back for pre-season there was a lot of negativity around the club, players leaving, players not signing, targets all ready to sign but deals not getting done.

“But I think it’s worked in our favour, we came back for pre-season and we didn’t exactly go anywhere exotic. We hoped to go to Portugal and Spain [for warm weather training], but budgets were in place and we ended up going to Felixstowe. But it’s created a spirit amongst the players.”

Keane reiterated that he doesn’t expect any moves in or out before the transfer window closes on Tuesday: “There’ll be no strengthening at the club over the next 48 hours.”

Would Keane come back to re-sign Priskin if Keane went to another club?? Doubtful !!! I hope Priskin bangs in some goals for us but I still think he was a terrible signing by Keane and demonstrates Keane's inability to go outside of his Sunderland/Irish comfort zone. The only reason Priskin wasn't transfer listed is because Keane does not rate Stead either here or at Sunderland. He has to show faith in Priskin because he cost so much money. Therefore Stead is gone and Priskin unfortunately is still with us. I am somewhat amazed that we have had a good start to the season under the stewardship of our buffoon boss. However, fans like myself who thing this thug needs to be removed from our football club cannot lose. If Keane screws up, he gets sacked. If Keane gets upset by Cleggy or ME, he walks. If he does well at Ipswich, some "bigger club" poaches him. Any way, the nutjob's time is coming........

Priskin has been awful this season. On Saturday he lolled around looking like a slow combination of Ian Marshall and Alan Lee, the turning circle of a Cheftain Tank and the pace of Johnny Vagas. He wouldn't chase the last bus.

If my two year old showed posture like he does I would tell him to stop sulking and straighten his shoulders.

If my fellow town fans are happy with this work rate then fair enough - I am not. If he was the best finisher in the world Lineker style you could accept not chasing everything and putting in a shift. By just like Kuqi Priskin's ability is very limited and until he puts in the effort the Kuqi used to he will remain an embarrassment .

Blimey - calm down people. Priskin has had one particularly good game, but he needs to maintain that sort of form over a space of time before we can consider him a success. Fingers crossed that he does, but until then let's keep our feet on the ground.

Running up and down that stoney beach would have helped with the team's stamina - a fact that showed itself a lot last season when when used to switch off in the last 5 minutes of a match.

I agree that it is too early to judge Tamas and Scotland this season - but the signs are encouraging. It took us until the end of October to get the same number of points we have now. This team is capable of so much more - it was said last season and maybe this year we will achieve the expected.

zippyrainbow: words you use to describe RK: "buffoon boss", "thug", "nutjob"... can't you give credit to him and the players? we are joint first... i think you're the kind of fan who will ALWAYS slate RK and Priskin, even if we were to finish top come may... so-called fans like you make me despair...

Priskin played reasonably well against what I thought was a very poor Bristol City side.
Its way too early to see if he can put last season behind him and come good but hopefully he can because if he is successful then he is being successful for Ipswich Town!
Similar argument goes for Keane really. Again I want him to be successful here because that means Town are being successful and thats what we all want surely?

Whilst Berlin Blue I do not agree with all the worlds that Zippy uses to describe RK I too was, and am uncomfortable with the appointment of RK to a footballing club sure if I were to change these views now we are getting results that would make me inconsistent and fickle.

If we get promoted under Roy Keane I would credit and even applaud his ability to have achieved this - it still wouldn't make me want a player who traditionally scythed a player in Mid December year after year to ensure he spent Christmas suspended - and therefore at home with the family - to be the manager of the cub I follow.
