Town Number Four in Cup Draw
Town Number Four in Cup Draw
Thursday, 28th Oct 2010 10:37

Town will be number four in this weekend's draw for the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup, which will be held during Sky’s Soccer Saturday from 12.20pm. The Blues are the only Football League side left in the competition.

It’s the first time in 10 years that Town have made it to a League Cup quarter-final, Manchester City having been beaten 2-1 after extra-time at Maine Road at the same stage in 2000/01. The game had to be rearranged after originally being abandoned due to heavy pre-match rain.

Quarter-final ties are scheduled to take place in the week commencing November 29th.

Carling Cup — Quarter-Final Draw

1 Arsenal
2 Aston Villa
3 Birmingham City
4 Ipswich Town
5 Manchester United
6 West Bromwich Albion
7 West Ham United
8 Wigan Athletic

Draw looks a bit like the top of the old first division circa 1979 (Wigan excepted).

depressed - you should not really be gloating and getting carried away about beating a side 52 places below us who are statistically the second worse in the football league !!!

Home tie would be ideal.
Any team would do, although personally I wouldn't fancy arsenal as I think their pace and quick passing could humiliate us. But man u are beatable - but only if we went for it (not if we sat back trying to defend).
Exciting though.

Bluearmy - do you really think we are going to get past a Premier League side in the next round ?? I am not being negative, just realistic. Even the likes of Wigan and Birmingham who have been called the "easiest draws" are established Premier League clubs and it is THEY who are all hoping that they get Ipswich in the next round. They will be rubbing their hands at the thought of getting a team who is in the bottom half of the Championship. Tell you what, since I am right, I am willing to bet on it. If we win the next round, I will leave TWTD - permanently !!!

I've been monitoring the TWTD messageboard for a year or two now but feel (on this bombshell from whoppit) that I must now post a message. After all the comments you've made on here (all very positive) I think everyone will miss you if you leave.

On a personal note, since I stopped appearing regularly on TV I've not had much excitement in my life so I'm very pleased with Town's progress in the Rumbelows Cup this year. I think the best possible scenario for the QF draw is West Ham United at Portman Road. Decent crowd and we could beat them.

That's my two-penneth.

Kisses... Brooke

Incidentally...

If you look at the draw - it's a very probable Premier League table for 2011/2012. With the following exceptions: Wigan and West Ham will probably have been relegated, Birmingham will be around 15th, Villa probably will be 12th and Town will be languishing around the 16th position after winning the play-offs. Not far off though. Spooky.

Carling Cup — Quarter-Final Draw

1 Arsenal
2 Aston Villa
3 Birmingham City
4 Ipswich Town
5 Manchester United
6 West Bromwich Albion
7 West Ham United
8 Wigan Athletic

Do I wish we get utd at home so we can get Portman road rocking and MAYBE cause a famous upset (but more likely lose let's face it) ....or wish we get west brom/ wigan/ Birmingham/ west ham where we would be more likely to win but with odds still stacked against us (and the crowd would not be as good). Tough one. Please not arsenal though!!!!!!!!!!

Not Wigan please... we could play at their place and still have more fans than them. It would be nice to get a big pay day... in fact despite what everyone says the bigger teams are our best bet for pregoression because even at the semi final round they are not going to take it too seriously, whereas the others have no other realistic hope of winning anything.

On what media is the draw held? TV? Radio? Internet? All of them? Thanks in advance to those that know and let me know.

Wigan away for me. Would be sweet to take a boat load of fans up there. Will be the game that would have the least number of issues with 'big game only' fans taking tickets ( as per Chelski away in the FA Cup..).

understandably we are the rank outsiders for the carling cup, i can still remember the day when if a last 8 had looked like this WE would of been the favourites, those were the days!

Who cares who we draw, we are in a quarter final for the first time in a long while, enjoy the moment, they don't come along to often. Before the season started who amongst us would have expected to get this far?
Our record in this competition is crap, one semi-final in our history, I won't remind anybody of who knocked us out, it was too painful at the time and time does not heal the wound!

Grumpyoldman - one semi-final is incorrect.
We lost to Liverpool in 1982 (2-4 over 2 legs), Budgies in 1985 (1-2) and Birmingham in 2001 (2-4).
