Priskin Making Himself Undroppable
Priskin Making Himself Undroppable

Blues boss Roy Keane says Hungarian striker Tamás Priskin is making it hard for him to leave him out of his Town side after his recent good run of form. The £1.7 million signing from Watford scored his fifth goal of the season at Sheffield United on Saturday.

Keane says he’s delighted that the 24-year-old has finally started to live up to his potential after his disappointing first year with the club: “Tamás is making it very hard for me to leave him out, as much as I have no problem changing winning teams, there are certain players who are saying ‘don’t leave me out’, and Tamás is one of them.

“His workrate’s been very, very good over the last few weeks and he’s been getting his rewards with some of the goals he’s been getting.

“His general play’s been very good and I think the fans are getting behind him and have been very supportive of him in recent weeks.”

The Town manager says all frontmen benefit from scoring: “Particularly with attacking players, even the big-name strikers, they just need that bit of confidence of a few goals. We’ve seen that with Tamás and long may it continue.

“If he keeps up his current goals ratio, then he’ll be well into double figures, and that’s all we ask of our strikers. For the club to make progress we have to have players getting double figures.

“Last year our leading scorer was Jon Walters with eight and two of those were penalties. It goes to show that as much as we gave bad goals away, we didn’t score many.

“But this season we have Tamás and Jason contributing, I think our midfielders will score goals for us, as will young Connor Wickham.”

Keane recently rested Trinidadian striker Jason Scotland in the second half at Nottingham Forest, but says the former Swansea and Wigan man’s fitness has progressed since then: “I think he’s fitter now, so there’ll be no rest for anybody. They had a good rest in the summer.”

Meanwhile, West Brom striker Ishmael Miller says he’d favour a move out on loan to get to match fitness after a thigh injury: "It's my view that I need to go somewhere just to get some football and play some games on the trot so that I can be ready for West Brom. I know it's going to be really tough for me to play unless I am fully fit."

Town are amongst a number of clubs to be linked with the former Manchester City man, although Roy Keane felt that the Blues would face significant competition for his signature.

Elsewhere, ex-Town striker Jordan Rhodes has been called to the Scotland U21 squad for the first time. Rhodes was born in Oldham but qualifies for Scotland having been schooled there for five years during his father Andy’s time in Scottish football.

Priskin undroppable! ha ha! You couldn't have predicted that phrase last season eah! I put my hands up I doubted (at times almost despised) the player, I thought he was lazy and to be honest useless... I'm delighted to be proven wrong thus far! Keep it up Tamas, looking good and I'm chuffed to be supporting you and the team! 2-1 Town win tonight!!! COYB's!

Ive always rated him and supported him on here since his arrival. His talent is obvious even to a non-player like me. The team is good enough for him now, thats all.

'legoman' you can't be serious!?!?!?! He was a nightmare last season... he couldn't hit a barn door and his work ethic seemed poor to say the least. He was always giving up on balls that were two paces away from his feet and constantly being pushed over by smaller players etc. I think he has raised his game and the team are that much more cohesive as a unit....
If you did genuinely rate and support him then I take my hat off to you! but i'm sure you may have been one of only a few...

I think I was one of several CD albeit a minority of blues but I just saw the potential was there and was desperate to see it blossom here, thats all.

I salute you legoman! I definately class myself as a fickle fan - The worst quality ever. I am trying to get past it though (Not with paid therapy you understand! haha) After such a torrid time last season I have come to see only the bad in everyone! ha ha! I shall revert from pesimist to optimist.... COYB's!

legoman i was with you and was frustrated that he was either played out of position on picked and dropped like an unsavioury ladies underwear!! For me his talent was never in question it was a. how we brought it out of him and b. if he could be bothered which at times last season he looked like he couldn't. All i hope is if he has a bad game or two he isnt suddenly dropped again - look at Torres!

We just need Lee Martin to 're-born' before returning, to feed Tamas devastating assists from wide and we'll be lethal.

nkotb funny that he appeared on X-Box today in a town shirt and did a lot of running around but never managed to finish the job off - clearly those who produced the game did their homework!! Anyone know how he is doing in league one?

I reckon that means he'll be dropped then! I interpret Keano's remarks as meaning something like, "I'm sorry to be dropping you tonight, but the system on this particular evening requires it." Glad to see Tamas is doing much better of late, however. I've always thought he would do ok - in the right system!
