Keane: Fans Might Forgive Bad Run If We Win the Derby
Keane: Fans Might Forgive Bad Run If We Win the Derby
Saturday, 27th Nov 2010 15:05

Town manager Roy Keane says Town’s supporters might forgive the recent poor run of form if the Blues beat Norwich at Carrow Road on Sunday. Town have lost each of their last three games and have dropped to 13th in the Championship.

Keane said: “I think if we can get the right result on Sunday then the fans might forgive the little bad spell that we’ve been going through.

“In any Championship match, but particularly in derby games, scoring the first goal is vital and we’ve not been managing to do that over the last few weeks. Our supporters will be going down there and we’ll try and put on a good show for them.”

The Town boss says the club’s fans would fully deserve some derby success after a number of disappointing seasons: “I think our supporters could do with a boost. It’s been a frustrating few years for the supporters here. They need something to shout about and we’ll try and do that on Sunday.”

Keane feels there has now been too much discussion of the recent booing and his subsequent comments: “I think enough’s been said over the last couple of weeks. Let’s focus on the game and on getting a result for the supporters and moving on.

“We’ve got to go out and try and do the business. The fans will get behind us on Sunday and we need to give them something to shout about.”

The currently under fire Blues boss says pressure is inevitable, particularly when going into a derby: “If you win football matches everything takes care of itself. But when you don’t win matches, there’s pressure, it’s part of the game and you’ve got to enjoy it.

“When you go into any derby game you hope there is pressure on your players to perform because if you don’t perform, there’s a good chance you’re going to get beaten.”

Keane is by no means shocked that Norwich have done well since their return to the Championship: “The fact they’ve come up and had a good start to the season shouldn’t surprise anybody, it’s been the same with Leeds and Millwall. They’ve kept the momentum going from last season when they got promoted.

“We’ve watched them recently, they have a go, they look to get forward and score goals, and they’ll be looking to do that on Sunday, no doubt.

“We need to get the balance better than we have in the last few weeks. We need to be solid, but we need to be more of a goal threat.”

Norwich boss Paul Lambert will watch the game from the stands having been handed a two-match ban, but Keane feels this won’t be a significant factor: “I wouldn’t have thought it would make too much of a difference. He’ll get his message across.

"You do a lot of your work in the week and then trust your players when they go out there. I’m sure Paul will get his messages to his staff via walkie-talkies or mobile phones. I don’t think that will be a major problem.”

Completely agree Elmswellblue. What a proper manager could do with this squad. Interesting to see that Keane now spins it that the suporters have had a frustrating few years!! Agree, but none more than the last 2 months and the way we now play.

Interesting to see what RK said on Football Focus. Came across well but the prove will be in the pudding the next 3 games. If the unthinkable happens tomorrow will be really worried given todays results. People will vote with their feet.

I can't wait for tomorrow - a Win against the scum will certainly make my week, Keane leaving the club will make my season however - i'm simply fed up with the negative way he's got us playing football. Despite this I'll be cheering the team on tomorrow as I do every match. "Come on You BLUEBOYS" Give us your all!!!! ".....There once was a poor little budgie...."...... Who's the pride of Anglia..." "....Hark now hear the Ipswich Sing, for Norwich ran away..." heheheheheh - I'm already soooooo excited. See you all on the Train :)

will forgive keanes strange decisions if we get a win 2mo,i so want him to suceed at the best club(without any doubt,no matter wot happens 2mo)in E.Anglia,if we get well beaten 2mo on international TV tho i so hope it is the end of a very mediocre 5 yrs+ at PR,this league is there for the taking this season,QPR/Cardiff aint nothing special,on paper we are the best team in that league, just need to be finely tuned.i bet all the anti-keane fans are the same people who objected to Neil Warnock when he was touted for the job when Magilton was sacked, look what he has achieved with what is in my opinion a very ordinary QPR side

The squad at the moment is not nearly as bad as results would suggest but...

Anyone else seen this?

While I don't necessarily agree we miss all these players it does show how much talent we've let slip out of PR in recent years....

Remind me what happened to the ITFC manager just after last time we won the derby match...

Only just over 6 months of a contract left, together with a massively expensive compensation clause if sacked (plus wages and other income) means Keane will not be sacked by Evans. Sorry, but it's that simple. If we are going to have a bad season, that Keane will be here for the majority of it. Evans will view it as a business decision, and for the sake of a few months will not pay, he will wait and replace him next May or near enough to the end of the season to minimise the cost, writing off this season.

"Our supporters will be going down there"???? I always think of going down to London and up to Norfolk, I suppose because of the direction if you look at these places on a globe (not in any sense of Norwich being above us - they might be temporarily above us in the table but I doubt whether they will ever build a history to touch ours). Unless Keane has an astronomical view of place, there is no up or down but only relative position - which might explain his apparent indifference to a lowly league position.

We may have done but we were humiliated today. Roy will you please go now? Evans if he doesn't walk, have the balls to get rid of him. He is clueless and the sooner you realise this the better.

hang on, let me guess the nxt headline and story

KEANE- "WE NEED TO BOUNCE BACK ON WEDNSDAY"
(add irsih accent) ah ya know, sending off was a bit harsh and we didnt get the break of the ball. at 2-1 we could have won the game blah blah blah (youve heard the rest before)
this is getting really boring, ive had enough, baffiling selections, substitotions, tactics. keane, its not working out for you here, time to get your coat and start walking your dogs mate

Another tactical masterclass from Mr Keane... the defence was shocking, the only plus point was that the RB crossed the halfway line. Leadbitter can\'t take set pieces.. Scotland is a s£#t selfish player, although my personal highlight of the game was seeing him taken off. I would sooner have Stead any day! or Pablo or Rhodes
Edwards at right back?
Colback at left back?
Healy even in an Ipswich shirt?
Civelli not even 15 minutes
Is Marcus Evans actually a season ticket holder in the Barclay?

What now BlueShoes eh? Carry on until the season is dead? Get out Keane. I think your subs said it all today when you replaced the only player getting crosses into the box for a target man who was brought on to challenge for the aerial balls!!!!!!

End this dross now Evans....

Keane, you've had the time, the money and the patience...

Now it's time to go.

No more excuses. No more optimistic assessments of where we're at.

These are dark, dark days at Portman Road.

He has to leave while there is still anything left to salvage.

The wrong man, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons...

Goodbye Keane - I can't say that it's been a pleasure... :(

I think we are overreacting. We had injuries, a sending off and a bad ref and we were on BBC. Keane needs more time.

whopit - I am not sure anyone is calling for Keane's sacking from one game.

Have you been around for all that has preceded it?

Today was/is just the cherry on top of a very, VERY large cake of Keane's making...

It really is time to go... (although I have been a football fan long enough to know that he won't....)

Changingman - I reckon we'll find whoppit is being just a touch sarcastic given previous posts.

Have to agree with most on here, change of leadership needed to go anywhere.

Time for a youngish, qualified, manager who has a proven record even if it's the lower leagues. This muppet has to go. Please Keane do the decent thing, go and walk your dogs elsewhere. Or if you'd rather just FO.

Many thanks

The majority of the fans are against you now Roy. Losing today was disastrous for your future at ITFC.
