Fülöp a Doubt for West Brom Quarter-Final
Fülöp a Doubt for West Brom Quarter-Final
Monday, 29th Nov 2010 16:03

Keeper Márton Fülöp as emerged as a new injury doubt ahead of Wednesday’s Carling Cup quarter-final against West Brom. The Hungarian international suffered an ankle injury in the weekend defeat at Norwich.

Manager Roy Keane told the club site that the former Sunderland man’s fitness will become clearer on Tuesday: "Márton is a concern. We will know more tomorrow."

Fülöp is yet to play in the Carling Cup for Town with Brian Murphy having been in goal for the games at Exeter, Crewe, Millwall and at home to Northampton.

Already on the sidelines with injury are Gareth McAuley (achilles), Luke Hyam (hamstring), Connor Wickham (thigh), Tom Eastman (groin) and Mark Kennedy (hamstring), while loanees Gianni Zuiverloon, Jack Colback, Jake Livermore and Rory Fallon are unavailable having played for their parent clubs in the competition already this season.

Meanwhile, the Blues have confirmed that they will not be appealing against Damien Delaney’s red card at Norwich. The Irishman will serve his one-match ban on Wednesday.

Wont be any loss to us at all, with Murphy falling out with Keane on Saturday we will probularly see Lee Barrett return in goal .I do think we should have appealed Delaneys red card as it was harsh.

Surely Delaney will have to serve a 3-match ban as it was a straight red!?

Lezoad, your three 20 year olds at the back, against Prem opposition would get ripped to shreds.

West Brom will be far too overpowering. A 3-1 defeat maybe.

3 match ban is only for dangerous play, a professional foul is the same as two yellows.

Biggest problem is that several of the squad that are fit are not allowed to play due to being on loan!!

Phil - I thought a straight red card was a 3 match ban? So
surely delaney would miss the swansea and one clashes as well as Wednesday??

Fulop for right back and move that new Dutch fella between the sticks - Keane hasn't played him there yet.

@dirtydingusmagee if your going to be insulting at least be original, imaginative and funny. Someone had already cracked the Fulops back joke and it was ten time more funny. Yours just made you look like a fool without any imagination.....

That must be a selection quandary for Keane as I'm sure he had Fulop pencilled in left-midfield! Joking aside that would seem more likely than him playing Townsend or Luca there.
On current form even if WBA put out a reserve side they are likely to be too strong for us whoever we play and whatever formation is used.
It would be a much needed boost if by some chance we do pull it off and with football that may just happen?......doubt it though.

Just posted this under a different headline but wanted to make sure people sure this stat about players. Shocking.

So now down to 17th in the table.

Going back to what I said about Keane needing 2 or 3 players when he joined the club. Has anyone looked at the current squad? Correct me if I am wrong but he has 19 different players who have signed under his management which includes loan players.
2 goalkeepers
5 defenders
8 midfielders
3 strikers (doesn't include Connor W)

and Lee Martin is out on loan. This figure also doesn't include those players he signed on loan last season.

That is shocking and proves to everyone that HE has brought the current squad together and HE is to blame. If HE is unable to shape any resemblance of a team out of that it proves how inept and out of his depth he is and I wouldn't trust another penny with RK. How many other town managers or any championship managers have been able to do this?

He has to go.

Murphy is better than Fullop, so no problem with this change. I still think that buying Fullop was - once again - a waste of money.

Can't agree GermanTractorBoy

Fulop is a good purchase and has generally added value to the team, however playing behind some of the poor defending that has been going on isn't easy. Nothing against Murphy he is also a good keeper, perhaps lacking a bit of height and not so commanding in the box.
