Norris Deal Close

Skipper David Norris says he is confident that negotiations regarding his new contract will be completed soon. The former Plymouth man’s representatives have been in talks with Town since late last month with the 29-year-old expecting to remain with the Blues.

Norris said: “Things are progressing fine. The club are in touch with my agent and I’m confident I will agree a new deal soon.

“It’s been in the back of mind and it would be nice to get it all cleared up. I came here three years ago to do a job and help get Ipswich promoted.

“There is no way that I want to leave a failure — I want to do what I was brought here to do for this great club.”

Norris is one of a number of senior players amongst the 21 out of contract at the end of the season and TWTD understands that central defender Gareth McAuley is also one of those to have been offered new terms.

Last week, chief executive Simon Clegg revealed that talks are ongoing with both senior players and youngsters, telling the press: “We know whose contracts are coming to an end and Roy, myself and the owner are agreed on who we want to keep, and those conversations are in train. As soon as I’m in a position to give you the first news, you’ll be the first to know.”

bluelady I disagree with the suggestion that Evans is currently 'rubbing his hands' at the prospect of more negative publicity on the back of Keane and Ipswich. He lost upwards of £5 million last season, not to mention his original investment of however many tens of millions (buying (the debt of) the club etc). To make any kind of return on his investment, even taking into account the extra business that he may well be making as a result of marketting through Ipswich Town, he needs us in the Premier League.

Clearly Keane's fame influenced (probably heavily) Evans' decision to hire Roy in particular. However, he obviously felt that Keane was also capable of taking us forward and into the Prem. Promotion would of course generate far more money / advertising for Evans than any publicity that Keane is bringing at the moment. Our current situation (being so close to the relegation zone) is most probably filling Evans with feelings of anger, dread and frustration; he's certainly not revelling in the situation that's for sure.

ok upbeat maybe not, but then if he were a little more vocal maybe it wouldnt be so tempting to have those kind of ideas!!!! Also cannot see why he is continuing to back Keane, i do believe as you rightly say he thought he as backing the right manager, both for publicity and for Keanes track record of taking Sunderland up. Clearly this is not going to happen so why continue to flog a dead horse? Surely if he is concerned about his investment he will see the only way out is a change of leader? Nine losses out of eleven games is not good enough at any level. I take all your points.

Upbeat. ME is probably feeling neither anger, dread, or frustration. He supports Chelsea. And anyway, does ME or The Marcus Evans Group own ITFC ? Who knows. I can't see The Group being too worried - Sky and the Daily Mail are digging in outside PR as we speak. Job Done.

Have sat at work reading these posts with great interest. Personally I have got to say that I was totally shocked to read that our club captain has not seen the manager since Saturday. We are on our worst run in how long, low in confidence and need real leadership and the players so good bye to the boss on Saturday evening and won't see him to speak to him again until Wednesday??

We need real leadership at the moment and Keane says that everyone is in this together!! So its down to McLaughlin and McParland to lift the players, install some confidence and show leadership. Keane is the manager and is paid handsomely to do this. The manager is the rudder of the ship yet we have no rudder and will end up crashing into the rocks or worse still sinking.

Sounds a bit like Simon Cowell and the mentors who leave their mentees with the trainers and turn up on a Friday to see them!!

I saw that someone mentioned budget and the players Keane has brought in. Look at the money he spent on Leadbetter, Edwards, Priskin, Martin, Scotland and Fulop alone and how many of these are always in the team. One has been sent away on loan and one was last season!!

He has brought in 22 players in total, spent circa £10M and where are we?? Look what happened at Narwich and all the loan players they brought in when they went down.

I would suggest that people look at the league table dated 19.12.09 and compare it to the latest one.
Interestingly, played 21 games, scored 22 and let in 30 with -8 GD. Exactly the same and that was with a good start this year. The only difference is that we have 3 more points this year but if we don't get nothing from our next 2 games then we will have the same points.

I worry about Saturday given the goals Leicester are scoring and who they have playing for them. We have then got Watford, Doncaster and Coventry. If we lose Saturday and Keane is at the healm then we will go into 2011 in the bottom 3. Negativity, no realism.

A new manager would have to be brought in to get something out of the xmas period and for something to build on.

Our fans have given Keane patience and time and after he has been manager of our club for 69 games he still doesn't know his best 11, doesn't know his best formation, doesn't know his best tactics. I would be interested if anyone knows how many games we have gone on to win after going a goal behind. Not many I bet and when he sets his team up not to lose we will always struggle under RK. This shows his lack of tactical awareness and experience.

Fed up with his excuses, fed up with his soundbites and overall fed up with him. I am at a loss as to how people can defend what he has done in the time he has been here.

Walk on Keane.

PS, what will the attendance on Saturday be?? Less than Swansea I bet.

Grief - I'm just guessing, but assuming that nobody who posts on this site has ever actually met RK. ME or SC, they do seem to 'know' a lot about what they are thinking and what their motivation is.

Personally, I'd guess that they are all pretty hacked off with the situation.

nobrain - I don't want to know RK, SC is virtually irrelevant, and what/who is ME?
We've heard what RK thinks (a hundred times), but nothing tangible from the other two - speculation abou the club we love is all we have.
Hopefully ME and SC have been too busy negotiating a replacement for RK to talk to us or the media circus building up outside PR.

Bluelady I definitely agree with you that Keane needs to go - I think 90% of town fans must feel the same.

Peter I agree he's a businessman and his affiliation with Ipswich Town seems to be on a purely business level - how can we come to any other conclusion when he insists on maintaing such secrecy, not taking interviews etc? However, as a businessman he obviously wants all his projects to succeed - failure is not a viable option to him. Therefore I'd imagine he is feeling genuine concern about the current state of affairs and lack of return for his investment. Also, although I am unsure of how much he earns / is worth, losing however millions of pounds a year (and with slowly vanishing hopes of turning the business into a success) would obviously frustrate him. Considering how much money he has pumped into the club and all to no avail at present, annoyed and frustrated is how I'd guess he is feeling. Even if he did buy the club with the idea of it being a long-term investment, the evident lack of progress will be weighing on his mind.

petermorris - I'm not going to argue with you mate. I love the club (not Keane or the board) and, I'm sure share, your desire to see things improve.

Having heard the drivel spoken by one of the new owners of Blackburn this evening, I can see that there may be some advantage to having a 'silent' owner - although maybe ME has taken this a bit too far.....

Wish there was some truth in the "rumour" that Keane is off to Sheffield Utd. I fear once again that it is merely speculation....
