Townsend to Return to Tottenham
Townsend to Return to Tottenham
Saturday, 18th Dec 2010 20:43

Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that on-loan winger Andros Townsend is set to return to Tottenham. The 19-year-old was due to remain with the Blues until the end of the season.

Keane said: “Andros is going back to Tottenham. I’ve been speaking to Andros for the last few days and I’ve been in touch with [Spurs assistant first team coach] Tim Sherwood.

“It’s all agreed with Tottenham that he’ll go back because he wasn’t getting the minutes here.”

Townsend made 14 starts and two sub appearances for the Blues, scoring his only goal in the 3-1 defeat to Swansea earlier this month.

Andros lots of promise but managers will always be reticent to play you untill you learn the expected responsibilities of the modern game, all to often the full back behind you was left with his own man and yours in a 2 against 1 situation. This cost us too many times!! RK patients just run out. Memorable moments Alex Bruce sending off and recent headed goal.

A clear sign teams like Spurs will no longer deal with Keane.

Further evidence that Keane does not have a clue. We are not scoring enough but partly because we are not making chances. Andros could do that. He should have a good future somewhere even if it is not at Spurs. Our loss. Keane must go.

Sorry Bluelady I completely disagree with you. Yes ON HIS DAY Townsend was okay for us, but too many poorer showings for me - a lot of away games where he failed to make an impact.

Looking back through recent posts on here 95% of 'fans' have moaned, moaned, moaned that we have 'too many loanees' in the team. Yesterday Roy played one of our own (who was excellent) and people are STILL moaning. Sorry, but what more can Roy do? He does what 95% of the fans want and STILL he is accused of not giving Townsend enough minutes. I find it mind boggling. We WON 3-0 yesterday without Townsend.

Would be personally happy to see all loan players heading back to their clubs. Exception would possibly be Fallon, who has actually looked pretty good for us. Set up the first yesterday and has a certain impact up front. Good for him. Other than that we have equally as good permanent players at the club.

Tell me Bluelady, would you really like to see a loanee play ahead of O'Conner or Peters?

Free up townsends wages so that we can get in another hardworking central midfielder to play on the left - it's simple!!! We don't want width or creativity.

why is he going back - because he has proven to be no better than we have already got

He is a decent player but I think Spurs would like him back. They have FA Cup, League and have to prepare for 2nd phase of Champs League. I dont think they expected to be this busy at the turn of the year.
They will need players like Andros to make impact from bench/ as back up for injuries. Spurs also seem to want to off load some attacking players in Jan (Keane/Crouch/Kranjaer) and need options.

We have Luca, Colback & Peters that can play out left. Also Murray may also be an option out there. Lets hope Keane see this as the time for Luca to be given his chance in the team.

Just to add that I think O connor should be first choice on left from now on. He impressed yesterday.

One less option for wide player on Boxing Day. Assume that O'Connor will be dropped after his impressive display yesterday.

Suprised at this, he's been very good when e;s given the opportunity. Best wide player we have, as its useless playing Colback out wide as he always wants to cut inside in to the middle. Norris played out left yesterday and wasnt really doing much out there, was playing mainly in the middle. Townsend and Peters were the only players with pace in the side and now its just Peters . . . . . .great work Keane.

Thought Norris played on the right yesterday and that the central midfield looked much better for his absence. Leadbitter and Norris do NOT work.

agree Norris was on right and player well much more attacking which is where he is dangerous. o Connor on left

jason0999 - please accept that 'making a point' and having 'an opinion' is NOT moaning, moaning, and more moaning.
Most of what you refer to is constructive. and justifiable criticism, to most people anyway.

Good riddance!!!
The guy is not good enough for the Championship as his all round game is poor. Going forward can be good, but not always. His defensive work is absolutely atrocious and uni that improves the best he can expect is a place in a League 1 or 2 team. Remember Gary Roberts.........
Goodbye Andrex. Don't forget to take the budgie boots with you.

I think this is very disappointing. Keane should have played him more regularly. It seems to me that RK is only interested in players that work hard. Those that have a talent, able to produce something different, he's not interested in. eg Counago, Garvan, Priskin, Townsend, Civelli. Lets fill the team with work horses and donkeys. As long as they give 100 percent, it doesn't matter if they can't open up a defence, do anything special, or entertain.

Hey , I am no Keane fan but I would much rather he plays a youngster - who I believe has great talent , and is comfortable going forward and defending on the left - Seen O ' Connor put in some good performances and he could be a really good player and he is ours . Townshend is a loanee who is never gonna give it all for the cause , like any loanee he has a top 6 premiership club waiting where he can keep the bench warm and maybe get future European outings - It is the modern game . Makes sense !!

O'Connor did more for me on Saturday than Andros has in most of his games put together!

Has been our best player some games and is a good left midfielder. Think we should send livermore back instead!!

£8m plus Gio for Wickham be nice but I cannot see;
a) Wickham getting a game at Tottenham
b) Gio being Keane type player

Civelli , I fear has lost confidence and may never be same again although strange he was bench recently and then disappeared - Saw him play against Stevenage ressies and understandably didnt look to keen on getting stuck in - Injury was a real bad one
Gio and Civelli need an Manager who can work with creative types who may produce brilliance but then drift - Keane will not put up with those type of players - He aint on Man Manager - His way or the highway

Another ridiculous decision from the mad monk, he's been our only player with any spark all season, with him on the wing and O'Connor playing behind him at full back our left side would have been fast, hard working and very dangerous going forward.
I give up, i really do......
