Jewell Loving Life at Classy Town
Jewell Loving Life at Classy Town

New boss Paul Jewell says the people of Ipswich and Suffolk have given him a great welcome since he took over as manager of Town earlier in the month. The ex-Bradford, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan and Derby boss says the club has a touch of class about it and a really warm feel.

Jewell said: “I have to say the people of Ipswich and Suffolk have been really welcoming, really warm. The club has a really good friendly feel about it, but it always has had that.

“A number of managers have rung me up since I’ve been here and said ‘Great club’. There’s something about Ipswich, it’s got that touch of class about it, it’s got that warmth about it, maybe because it’s so far from everywhere!”

The new manager has, however, encountered one problem: “People have been really friendly, I just can’t understand what they’re saying, although that might be the other way round, I’m not sure!

“Everyone around the club’s been really warm. I know John Wark really well, I played with him at Liverpool, and David Lowe’s a friend of mine. I saw Roger Osborne downstairs.

“Everyone I know who has played here has a lot of feeling for the club, it’s a warm, real family club. A lot of people come here and never move.”

Jewell admits that he hasn’t seen too much of Suffolk as yet as he’s been so busy with the squad at Playford Road: “I’ve only seen the hotel and the training ground. I’m trying to get some accommodation sorted, although the hotel have been great. I’ve been getting back to the hotel late and then up early to get to the training ground.

“I’ve not really had time to catch my breath. I’ve had one drive out to look at a place to live, but other than that I’ve been mad busy.”

BlueInBrum- You took the words out of my mouth. The more I hear him speak, the more impressed I become. I admit I wasn't jumping for joy when he was appointed, my Derby mates didn't help in that matter, but right now he's saying the right things and obviously has great respect for our wonderful club. He respects our history and traditions which we've lacked in the past 2years, he talks sense, seems approachable and good humoured.
If he gets the team playing the way they did in the 2nd half against Donny, we'll be just fine.
Keep up the good work Paul, you're making an believer out of me.

LMAO! Comedy genius! As a non-ipswich resident, I can relate to that PJ as I have relatives in Ipswich, but more importantly I can also relate to him saying “I have to say the people of Ipswich and Suffolk have been really welcoming, really warm. The club has a really good friendly feel about it, but it always has had that."

Good on ya Scouser, we understand that loud and clear.

Haven't been to any matches for a while due to illness but obviously been listening to it on the radio and even BBC radio suffolk sound more excited, Although i was a bit dubious about the Paul Jewell thing, i think 70% of us fans can all hold there hands up and say that this could be a very good thing for us and our club and maybe the best signing we've had in a number of years.
I think if this was a month ago and we were going into the match against Arsenal under the black cloud that was RK then i think we all would have been looking at a trounsing but...........

Watch this space.

All the best to Paul and the boy's. Also anybody who is going i hope you have a great day on what could be a Historic night for the Town...

legoman..Love your post, keep thinking about it makes me laugh so much and it's good to see so many of you enjoying what's happening at the moment. PJ is definately the right man for the job and will in reasonable time, turn the side around. I would ask you all though to maintain this new found affection for our new Manager when things get a little dodgy, as there will be peaks and troughs until he gets the team he wants playing the way he wants. I for one have every faith in him completing the task, and the picture of him in my minds eye seeing Roger Osbourne downstairs; will keep me laughing for years to come.

PJ is a good bloke. Intelligent and inspiring team management Saturday. I'm really enjoying being an Ipswich supporter again and I don't care if we have another dip as I know he'll be moving us on.

ps. Legoman - v.v. funny.

"it's got that warmth about it, maybe because it's so far from everywhere!"

Why do people keep banging on about Ipswich being in the middle of nowhere?? It's only about 75 miles from the largest city in Europe! Don't get it.

umm, Norwich 40 miles, Cambridge 60 miles, London 70 miles it's hardly the middle of Siberia!

I hope this new found enthusiasm stays even if we have a bad result or 2, as this is still Keane's team and PJ needs at least as much time as RK was given to make his mark.

Paul, you were doing so well - yes we can be warm, yes some of us do speak funny (especially near the Norfolk border), but there there isn't much classy about Ipswich.

Please let the players do the talking on the pitch.
