![]() Tuesday, 25th Jan 2011 14:03 Town have made an enquiry to Preston North End regarding central defender Sean St Ledger, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. However, the Blues were reportedly put off by the Lilywhites’ £2.5 million asking price. Irish international St Ledger, 26, came through the youth system at Peterborough during which time he went on loan to Stevenage Borough. After making the breakthrough at Posh, the Birmingham-born defender joined Preston in July 2006 for a fee of £225,000. Having impressed at Deepdale, St Ledger joined Middlesbrough on loan at the start of last season. The short-term spell was expected to turn into a £4 million permanent switch but the 5ft 11in tall defender failed to settle in the North-East and returned to Preston. Town could be in the market for another experienced central defender if Gareth McAuley opts not to sign a new contract at Portman Road with his current terms up at the end of the season. Boss Paul Jewell said yesterday that he plans to speak with McAuley before the end of the week.
