Chopra Linked Again
Chopra Linked Again
Friday, 27th May 2011 08:44

Cardiff striker Michael Chopra is again linked with the Blues by some of this morning’s tabloids. Town boss Paul Jewell is said to have turned his attention to a £1 million move for the 27-year-old having had his attempts to sign Doncaster’s Billy Sharp rebuffed.

Chopra was one of ex-Town boss Keane’s main targets last season, having played for him at Sunderland, but the club weren’t prepared to pay the Bluebirds' asking price.

The one-time Newcastle trainee, who is contracted to Cardiff until 2012, scored 11 goals in 28 starts and 11 sub appearances during 2010/11 despite suffering one or two injuries.

Whether Chopra, who was first reported to be a Paul Jewell target last week, is the player the Blues boss is set to meet today remains to be seen but it appears unlikely.

if my sources are correct it is not a striker and it is in fact Sol Cambell. Perhaps PJ is speaking to more than one player this morning because Sol has already been spotted in Ipswich apparently.

A big 'if' I know but if we do get Chops for £1 million then it puts into perspective the £3 million that Doncaster are hoping to receive for Billy Sharp.
Also sends out a message that this football club will not be held to ransom just because the chairman has a few quid to spend.

Tractorboy, what are you on about, 27 old?????? Prime age for a striker, experience and proven, would welcome this signing at that price. Look how long sheringham played for, so no to bullard from your point of view then?

tractorboy2434....err getting on?? are you on drugs? 27 and a regular scoring at this level.. if he is available for 1million i think we should definately go for him, however, i would be very surprised he is considering they have already lost bellemy and bothroyd

Ah, the sounds of summer. The call of the cuckoo. The gentle thwack of willow on leather. And the sound of Town being linked with Chopra yet again.

Of course his price has fallen–he has just had a season that demonstrated how injury-prone and inadequate he is. We were very lucky last summer; let's not repeat mistakes.

11 goals in 28 starts and 11 sub appearances is not any better than what we had last year. He's not the answer.....

If we get him for £1M what sort of wages would he expect. I presume a good medical would pick up any serious injuries.

We only have to look at Birmingham for some answers to our problems:

Phillips up front, Bowyer in midfield and Parnaby in defence

Has he gone off the boil?

what happened to david goodwille?.. he looks like a quick, hungry, powerful player!.. i don't rate chopra, i don't think he is exciting enought, but if we get him in, hopefully he proves me wrong!

COYB!

Not too enthused with this, one million is still a lot of money for a player who has looked pretty poor this season, he may come good but Chopra alone will not be enough...

I agree with the above comments about Goodwillie, could be a good acquisition...

Tired of being "linked", only to be disappointed later on. When we actually sign someone, it may be worth offering an opinion!
