Town Closing in On Chopra Signing
Town Closing in On Chopra Signing
Thursday, 9th Jun 2011 22:42

Town continue to close in on the signing of Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra. As revealed by TWTD this morning, the 27-year-old was at Portman Road today to talk terms and to undergo a medical.

As of this evening, we understand that the deal is not yet complete but it’s likely that the former Sunderland and Newcastle man will be a Town player before the weekend with negotiations set to resume on Friday when he seems set to put pen to paper.

Town and Cardiff have agreed a £1.5 million fee for the former England U21 international with his agent Kenny Moyes confirming earlier today that his player is “keen” to join the Blues.

Meanwhile, we understand that Town are also continuing to talk to a number of other players regarding moves to Portman Road in addition to Chopra and Ivar Ingimarsson, who was also at the club today. Both chief executive Simon Clegg and manager Paul Jewell have been away from Town this week - Clegg at the Football League AGM in Cyprus - but this hasn't prevented them from continuing discussions with several parties.

Jewell is probably looking to make up to eight signings over the summer as he tries to build a more competitive squad for the season ahead.

I put this on the wickham mooving to sunderland artical (rubbish). But i think it is more approprate hear.....

Above 12 million with the potental to rise to 17 million depending upon goals and international caps ect + sell on clause and season loan back. That is for this season.

If we keep him it all becomes dependent upon what league we end up in.

But chopra and wickham could make a good strike partnership. My worrie is that we are being linked with all these good players but they will take time to gell. Well it is early days in the close season if we can sign them early hopefully we will start that at the beginnng of pre-season. Just dont expect too much!!! Saying that I feel quietly optomistic for next season we are showing real intent.

I still think we need an expearenced player to hold in the midfield, to boss a Derry charcter. Someone like......John Eustace form Watford or David Edgar (less expearenced) i think he could do a job there or James Harper form Hull. He knows what it takes to get out of this leage has done it with Reading.

Let me know what you think.....

Once 20 goal striker nailed sorting out our defence starts with acquiring holding midfielder with bags of experience. Eustace has year left on Watford contract (rumoured turned down £200,000 offer from Derby last month). It's a role PJ identified in April that needing filling who's he got in mind?

Either the deal is done in the next few hours and a press conference is called,- or there are "complications". Very much hope it is the former rather than the latter. They have easily had enough time to do the formalities/fitness test etc....the longer it drags on the less likely they are to sign.
On a positive note- he might want to announce both signings at once so MAYBE 1 has already signed and they are waiting for the other.

The player that was at Portman Road sounds like the spitting image of Nathan Tyson- or a Tyson lookalike....

Yeah surely you wouldn't have a medical until after you'd agreed terms??? Otherwise it would be a waste of time.I guess if Jewell and Clegg are away then they might wait until they're back. Anyone know where Jewell is?

Is this going to happen?

After all the hype last night etc ... I am now beginning to doubt it.

And if it doesn't happen, are to blame Clegg and high off-handed manner again?

Time will tell

AndyUK61873 added 14:31 - Jun 10
Not sure who you would blame, Clegg has been away at the League meeting all week and the report says Jewell is away as well....
