Town Closing in On Chopra Signing
Town Closing in On Chopra Signing
Thursday, 9th Jun 2011 22:42

Town continue to close in on the signing of Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra. As revealed by TWTD this morning, the 27-year-old was at Portman Road today to talk terms and to undergo a medical.

As of this evening, we understand that the deal is not yet complete but it’s likely that the former Sunderland and Newcastle man will be a Town player before the weekend with negotiations set to resume on Friday when he seems set to put pen to paper.

Town and Cardiff have agreed a £1.5 million fee for the former England U21 international with his agent Kenny Moyes confirming earlier today that his player is “keen” to join the Blues.

Meanwhile, we understand that Town are also continuing to talk to a number of other players regarding moves to Portman Road in addition to Chopra and Ivar Ingimarsson, who was also at the club today. Both chief executive Simon Clegg and manager Paul Jewell have been away from Town this week - Clegg at the Football League AGM in Cyprus - but this hasn't prevented them from continuing discussions with several parties.

Jewell is probably looking to make up to eight signings over the summer as he tries to build a more competitive squad for the season ahead.

Really not looking like it is going to happen friends.

Searched BBC Sports, Sky Sports, Cardiff & Ipswich websites, and various forums and I can't now find any mention of it even being close. Even Wikipedia has removed all mention of Ipswich from Chopra's page!!!

Last I heard on Radio Suffolk was of a "couple of problems to be sorted out at the Cardiff end".

I know at least half of you will say I am not a true support (oh yes I am - for over 40 yeas now!!), others will tell me to be patient, keep the faith, in PJ we should trust etc etc etc. But sorry my friends I really fear the worst now.

Please please let me be proved wrong!

I am worried. If this doesn't happen I will feel disheartend and angry as an Ipswich supporter. Come on Chopra, you will make alot of Ipswich fans happy. LEGEND, where did you hear that West Ham are sniffing around?

Would be a grat signing, if ........., but.................

Take a look at Norwegian international right back Tom Hoegli. He's 27, tamed Ronaldo last weekend and is eager to go abroad (he's now playing for Tromsoe in the Norwegian premier league).

Just gossip shoopdelang and the Evening star.

I would have thought the deal would have been done by now to be honest.

I really wish I didn't have a computer in front of me. My productivity today has been pathetic because I keep checking this story every two nano seconds! Can't believe there's nothing on Sky Sports at all - hasn't been ever since he was linked.

I'm positive that this is going to happen though.

I was excited by the latest links to chopra etc, but why are sky,BBC and the rest showing nothing? I have a fear this is all a bum story. Hope I'm wrong.

If that is the case Singapore Blue it will I am afraid prove that ME is not as willing to get us into the Premier as he made out. More black days methnks

Don't give up hope yet chaps. Whilst our track record isn't great, the player's agent claimed he wants to sign, we just need to make him a decent wage offer.

If the aint done by 5pm then it is as good as dead in the water. If that happens my season ticket will be heading back. If Clegg screws this up he wants stringing up!

I understanding exactly where you are coming from Legend.

What really hurts, is knowing that lot up at Carrot Rood are probably looking south and absolutely wetting themselves at the shambles our great club has turned into!

Simon Clegg and Paul Jewell arent at the club today so it is going to take a while to sort everything out. Lets not panic just yet.

Wonder if the issue is more on Cardiff talking to Sunderland on this "money" they still owe them for the player, recall a few years back how Portsmouth got themselves really screwed up when they were selling players they still owed on and had mutliple investigations into the deals.

here we go. just because nothing been announced yet we start to get all the negative comments coming. what a great supporter you are legend? if he not sign youll send back your season ticket? dear oh dear, what an attitude. been loads of players not sign for us in the 38 years ive supported the club, you dont give up because 1 doesnt sign. then your going to blame clegg, despite fact he been away, so had nothing to do with the negotiations. priceless.

i have a way-out-there conspiracy theory....maybe there is a 3way conversation going on between town-cardiff-sunderland on how Sunderland get Wickham from us and money from cardiff, we get Chopra and cash from Sunderland and Cardiff gain nothing out of it.
