Brown Linked Again
Brown Linked Again
Sunday, 26th Jun 2011 16:57

Town are again reported to be amongst the clubs chasing out-of-contract former Portsmouth midfielder Michael Brown. The Blues and West Ham are said to be the leading contenders to sign the 34-year-old, who was also linked by last weekend’s tabloids, having been the subject of TWTD Message Board rumours for a number of weeks.

The combative midfielder started his career with Joe Royle’s Manchester City, spending time out on loan with hometown club Hartlepool, Portsmouth and Sheffield United while at Maine Road, before joining the Blades permanently in January 2000 for £400,000.

It was at Bramall Lane that the 5ft 9in tall midfielder made his name prior to a January 2004 move to Spurs.

After two years at White Hart Lane, Brown joined Fulham, then in July 2007 current Town assistant manager Chris Hutchings took him to Wigan. In August 2009 the midfielder signed on at Pompey before leaving at the end of 2010/11.

Brown is said to be weighing up which of a number of offers to accept with a one-year deal understood to be on the table at Town.

Only team Ellington and Chopra would scare is our own defence! We need 6 players quick! Goalie, right back, left back, creative midfielder x2 and a decent striker to replace wickham ie 20 goals a season lead striker not under 6 feet tall.

We need 2 decent full backs, another central defender and at least 2 midfielders, there is no way our squad is good enough to finish above last years, time for the manager to get his finger out and stop looking at 34 year old has beens.

34 eh? poor old git.
A one year contract with an option to make it 2 on appearances. If he signs he will be motivated, if he does not he wont.

We need a player that can play the ball from midfield and be HAPPY to get it back. A player that will turn AWAY from a tackle NOT hoof it when his opposite number is closing in.

If this guy Brown fits the bill then sign him. Age matters little for the player described above. I play this position and I'm over 40. And no I'm not saying sign an old git like me, I'm making a point.

Yeah Whoppit. Unfortunately every club except us seems to sign them. Look at the development of Derby, Bristol City and Barnsley over the transfer period, thats the way to do business. Every player they target they get. How many transfer targets have Norwich failed to land in the last 2 seasons?
If we don't make significant changes, we won't see significant results

Ellington and Chopra are hardly terrifying......................................

Whippit, you are 100% correct. It's not going to be easy getting out of this division next year and signing old past it players like Brown is not going to help. Keane used to sign all his Sunderland/Irish buddies and now we have Jewell and Hutchings rounding up their old buddies for a last payday.

Fortunately we got Chopra who nobody else wanted. IF my any miracle we do go up, we will have to replace him as he flopped when he was in the Premier League. Mid table please and consolidation will do next year.

Well said Whippet. At last a town fan that doesn't wear blue tinted glasses the whole time. Everything you say is spot on and I will add the point that PJ's career winning record as a Manager is only 50%. We struggled last year with a reasonable squad. With the current crop we will have a torrid season and we really need to add to the defence and midfield, not to mention the goalkeeper. I think troubled waters are definitely ahead unfortunately.
