Town Linked With Move for Arsenal Striker Thursday, 21st Jul 2011 23:57
Town are set to offer Arsenal £1 million for striker or wideman Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, according to a tabloid report. The 20-year-old has previously played in the Championship with Blackpool, Doncaster and Cardiff.
Forest Gate-born Emmanuel-Thomas joined the Arsenal academy at the age of seven, progressing through the ranks to skipper the U18s to the 2009 FA Youth Cup at the age of 16 and swiftly breaking into the reserves.
The 6ft 3in tall England U17 and U19 international, who played under former Town coach Chris Kiwomya as a Gunners youngster, has made only one senior Arsenal start in an FA Cup tie, plus a further single Premier League sub appearance and three more cup games from the bench.
After spells on loan largely playing in wide midfield roles at Blackpool, Doncaster and last season with Cardiff, Arsene Wenger is reported to have decided to allow Emmanuel-Thomas to leave on a permanent basis.
Town boss Paul Jewell is understood to be on the look-out for a big frontman to augment his existing strike force, while Emmanuel-Thomas’s ability to play wide may also prove an attraction with the Blues manager also keen to add to his midfield ranks.
Elsewhere, with Hull City still to officially comment on former Blues loanee Jimmy Bullard's reported two-week suspension, QPR are claimed to have moved on to other targets having been unable to agree loan terms with the Tigers.
Earlier in the summer, Blues boss Jewell ruled Town out of the running saying that the financial side of bringing the 32-year-old back to Suffolk was beyond the club's means.

i must admit i think we should get bullard but i like this player and i think we shoyld het him . we should split the money on bullard and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas
I like links with this kind of player. It shows that PJ understands both the need for speed and that fans want entertainment. Pace and power creates excitement, even if the end result isn't always there (Danny Haynes, anyone?).
I would love for this to come off, they guy is young, hungry, very physical, can play pretty much across midlfield and attack and even at full back iirc. Check out the video of a reserve goal he scored, and the size of him!
lol come off,are you joking for a million.bid will get snubbed, then it will fizzle out like most have done with us.will have to add at least another half mill, hes not some average championship nobody.
Would worry about his temperament as a very moody player. He was awful for Cardiff in the play off semi final so not bothered either way. PJ has to be trusted to get the best out of players so we will see what develops but won't hold my breath. Defence is becoming more of a priority every day.
Would be a great addition to the team but this must surely spell the end for Scotland and/or Priskin? However... what about defenders? we lost 3 centre backs and have brought in just 1 who so far has not played a single minute of pre-season. CB & RB must now be a priority.
this is not the player to get us into the top six. he has scored 8 goals in 3 years he young, untried and hasn't played enough games. and £1 million is too much. but at least he is not 33 years old.
was good for Cardiff last season. Also remember him playing against us form Donny a couple of years back when he looked a bit lost, but he's matured since then I think.
Scott Sinclair left a top EPL side for £500k last season rising to £1m, wouldnt be surprised if this was a similar sort of deal...... would be a great addition....... im sure the usual morons will find issue with it all.... whoppit, churchmans and hazlebum..... are you three brothers? i feel sorry for your mum..... or has she topped herself already.......?
Think he would be a great signing but still don't think we are short up front (numerically not height wise). Would prefer to hear about a 6'3 right footed defender to be honest
Was disappointing on the whole for Cardiff I believe but did so some signs of brillisnce - there's certainly quality in him and he is a young guy. Would be an exciting signing and £1m isn't a bad offer in all honesty - I think we're relatively used to overpaying for players tbh and so, whilst some may see this as an absolute bargain (could pan out that way), I'd view this as a very good opening bid.
Whoppit shouldn't be bothering the news comment pages anymore btw.
Upbeat..... if the whoppit statement is true.... whoever sorted that out is a legend..... next the other couple of morons please...... even the negative posters with some facts and a genuine opinion are sometimes tiring, but they are being sensible..... there are a few others who are just a pain in the A55 tho......
Phil - can you get onto someone at the club and get the person who got rid of him a signed shirt??
That should be "show" and "brilliance" - yet to master this whole typing whilst laying down thing.
To conclude, I think he's certainly got the ability to be a hit at this level and could be a great squad addition. Similar characteristics to Ishmael Miller, but with a bit more skill and less power I believe.
rosseden he'd only be getting himself another one.. Phil alluded to swinging the banhammer at him yesterday, after several complaints in the forum pages. He could well come back as another poster though (he could even be tractorboy2434 - they read from the same hymn sheet at the very least) - the admins wouldn't be able to tell if he used another IP address and email account, so this may not be the end of the man. Apparently he's hardly even vaguely interested in itfc, so his number of posts on this site is slightly odd in itself.
i suspect he may already have been two 'other people' before he went this time..... youd think people who have better things to do with their lives......
