Town Linked With Move for Arsenal Striker
Town Linked With Move for Arsenal Striker

Town are set to offer Arsenal £1 million for striker or wideman Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, according to a tabloid report. The 20-year-old has previously played in the Championship with Blackpool, Doncaster and Cardiff.

Forest Gate-born Emmanuel-Thomas joined the Arsenal academy at the age of seven, progressing through the ranks to skipper the U18s to the 2009 FA Youth Cup at the age of 16 and swiftly breaking into the reserves.

The 6ft 3in tall England U17 and U19 international, who played under former Town coach Chris Kiwomya as a Gunners youngster, has made only one senior Arsenal start in an FA Cup tie, plus a further single Premier League sub appearance and three more cup games from the bench.

After spells on loan largely playing in wide midfield roles at Blackpool, Doncaster and last season with Cardiff, Arsene Wenger is reported to have decided to allow Emmanuel-Thomas to leave on a permanent basis.

Town boss Paul Jewell is understood to be on the look-out for a big frontman to augment his existing strike force, while Emmanuel-Thomas’s ability to play wide may also prove an attraction with the Blues manager also keen to add to his midfield ranks.

Elsewhere, with Hull City still to officially comment on former Blues loanee Jimmy Bullard's reported two-week suspension, QPR are claimed to have moved on to other targets having been unable to agree loan terms with the Tigers.

Earlier in the summer, Blues boss Jewell ruled Town out of the running saying that the financial side of bringing the 32-year-old back to Suffolk was beyond the club's means.

He would be the perfect up front man for us, i cant believe people think he's not good enough. Its easy to look at goalscoring records and judge players, he would be a strong guy up front and has got some very nice skill, probably wouldn't be scoring 20 but not all top strikers bag 20 goals a season, i would offer 1.5 million for this guy, he's everything we need up front.

Before I am accused of being negative I will say he would be a decent signing, I stress the words would be because we have'nt signed him, is anybody else sick of this constant stream of rumour, I will believe when he signs, whenever that is.

Hope we dont lose out through bidding too low again!
Would like to hear more rumours about getting a right sided FIT centre back ,as dont want Ivar to turn out like Mark Fish or Ben Thatcher who were a similar age.

If it happens at £1 million its good business but I suspect its going to cost us much more than that.

Wednesday we are told that 'we might hear something on thursday about a bid made for a striker' thursday comes and this breaks , Iwonder if this is further towards completion than we have been led to believe.I would love some news of an actual signing or at least a medical the following day, otherwise this all just seems so pointless ,its just one story after another about who we MIGHT buy we need definitive information please

I agree with everything Tractamatt is saying today! I would like to see a strong player come in that is a statement of our intent that we mean business this year.

Would be a great signing. But will it happen? I doubt it. All this transfer talk seems to be pr to get us to swallow wickham sale with nothing significant back. Yeah we tried blah blah blah. You can get transfers done if you mean business, look at leicester.

Well certainly puts my shout for Adam Le Fondre in the shade, well JET is at least 4" taller for a start. Can he play in defence?

TWTD Guys - Any chance of having Olympic style countdown clocks on the home page that show the countdown to the beginning of the season and the countdown to the closure of the transfer window...and how about a list of players we are linked to or make offers on as well as in my befuddled state I am finding it hard to keep up with what is going on (or perhaps more to the point what is not going on!).

A work colleague who is a Gooner really rates this guy.....but then again he also rates Bendtner!!
When I have seen him play he's either brilliant or rubbish but would definitely offer us something different. Would be a good signing but I think a lot of other teams may also move for him.
I'm really hoping we get a right-footed defender soon just to stop the constant fretting about how short we are in that area

Let's have a song.

Ah come on Eileen.

These people round here wear beaten down eyes
Sunk in smoke dried faces they're so resigned to what their fate is,
But not us, no not us we are far too young and clever.
Remember Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye
Eileen I'll hum this tune forever.
