Czech Midfielder on Trial
Czech Midfielder on Trial
Wednesday, 24th Aug 2011 09:06

Former Czech U21 international midfielder Jiří Bílek is spending the week on trial with Paul Jewell’s squad at Playford Road. Bílek, 27, currently plays for Kaiserslautern in Germany's Bundesliga.

Bílek, who is likely to have joined central defender Ibrahima Sonko and Richard Wright in the reserves side which drew 1-1 in a friendly with Colchester yesterday, was born in Prague and was a youth player with local side Sparta before moving on loan to Spolana Neratovice and then Chmel Blšany.

In 2006 the 6ft 1in tall defensive midfielder joined Town’s 2002 UEFA Cup foes Slovan Liberec on a permanent basis and then in January 2009 he signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Kaiserslautern.

After initially playing for their second string in the regional leagues, he broke through into their first team during their spell in the German second tier and was in the side which won the division in 2009/10. Bílek made 15 league appearances last season, Kaiserslautern's first back in the Bundesliga, but is now out of favour and surplus to requirements.

Capped at both U20 and U21 levels by his country, Bílek is also set to spend time with Birmingham City while in the UK.

I don't like being negative, but how many players do we ever sign as a result of a trial. These stories are either smoke screens for us fans to think the club has been busy or the players we get in on trial turn out to be cack!!! Shame Leadbitter and co didn't arrive on a trial basis first!!!

Under Magilton we used to have loads of players on trial, but that seems to have dried up since he left so this is good news.

I think Keane dismantled not only our European scouting network, but also our UK one!

Colin Healy captained Ipswich against Northampton a couple of weeks ago, but was poor. He is just useful backup I think, but not more than that.

I see that the Liverpool defender we targetted was in the Norwich team last night against MK Dons. I expect they are now focussing on the league!

Sounds like the kind of player this club badly needs. So we obviously won't get him!

Whatever happens and whoever signs I just hope they give a good account of themselves on Saturday.

Losing is nothing to be ashamed of IF you play well and give a good account of yourselves.

Also I know it will be hard but I really really hope we don't boo Grant Leadbitter on Saturdayy. It will only serve to give Leeds an extra edge and damage the confidence of an already very weak player.

Please don't Boo the players on saturday please please

Didn't we employ a "top manager" so that we we wouldn't get stuffed 7-1? And why are we doing trials with days to go in the transfer window? Shouldn't this have been done weeks ago?

Slovakia, Slovenia , Senegal , Frankly I think Sweden is where we need to go - a man mountain x 2 - Defensive midfielder - makes it about 8 we have at the club - why not fill the side with them ? An attacking one would excite me more - get em on the back foot I say ... Attack , Attack .... We will beat Dirty Leeds and so all will be calm at the Town ... I am inhaling my sandelwood incense infused with Kalpol .. now he is a good young player ..

Happy memories of Kaiserslautern, having lived just outside their ground for 3 years whilst serving with RAF. Happy days.

As long as we don't play a negative 4-5-1 I really don't care anymore.
