Birmingham and Coventry Eyeing Scotland
Birmingham and Coventry Eyeing Scotland

Scouts from Birmingham and Coventry were interested spectators as sub Jason Scotland scored one and created another during the Blues’ 2-1 victory over Leeds at Portman Road on Saturday. But the Trinidadian striker insists he wants to stay at Town and fight for a place in Paul Jewell’s side.

Scotland said: “I’ve worked very hard in pre-season, and I don’t want to leave here. I love this place, the club and the people.

“I can only do what the manager asks me to do, and to get this chance was just what I needed. But it’s not just about me. Everyone was working so hard around me as we chased the game.

"We have terrific supporters, and I’m just so pleased for them that we have ended a bad run,” he added.

Jewell says he is no hurry to sell any of his players but admits that everyone has their price: “Arsenal can’t keep hold of Fabregas and Nasri, so if someone comes in and offers silly money for any player [we’d consider it] but we’re not kicking them out of the door.

“I’ve said all along, every player here, as long as they give everything, will be considered. Whoever that is.”

Speaking after Saturday’s game, the Blues manager says he has been impressed with the attitude and work ethic shown by Scotland, whose Town contract is up next summer: “I have to pick a team. I see them every day in training. I see who looks sharp and Jason has done well. He’s been in and out but he’s never sulked.

“He’s worked hard, he’s knuckled down and today he scored a terrific goal and was involved in the second one.

“I can only pick five subs and you want people to give you problems. But tonight is the wrong night to talk about players going or selling them. I think Jason deserves a pat on the back because he hasn’t sulked he’s just got on with it.”

The 32-year-old was linked with his former club Swansea earlier in the summer, while Sheffield Wednesday were also said to be interested.

Jewell was keeping any developments regarding any further Town signings very much to himself: “There might be and if there’s any news, we’ll let you know!”

got to keep him and let priskin go for better money. Saying all the right things for me and despite having a tough first season kept going. Very pleased for him to get that goal and deserves credit. Keep it up big man!

Let's sign up the striker in Garv's video! He takes a mean penalty too.

Jason Scotland should be ashamed. How can a professional athlete allow themselves to be overweight. He doesn't look like the same person from the 2008 video.

The bloke scores goals even when he is not played to his strengths and really Priskin would if played more effectively. If there was anyone who I would realease it would be Ellington but I would be happy for him to prove me wrong. Chopra, Murphy and Scotland looking good to me after Saturday and with Jimmy back to play it to them on the deck goals will come.

Thanks for the Scotland compilation Garv - enjoyed watching those!

We should definitely keep hold of him, absolutely no point in letting him go. There's a good chance that he could rediscover his form in our new look team (crucially - with a partner). Plus he genuinely seems motivated to to play for us.

On the subject of Priskin I've always thought he had loads of ability and would come good for us. However he's not a natural finisher like Scotland. If one of them has to he jettisoned then unfortunately it would have to be Priskin.

Can't see us offering Scotland another contract so would guess that if the right offer comes along he will be sold if not now, then in the January transfer window. Priskin will surely be sold or loaned and Ellington - well agree with most others looks a dreadful signing at the moment. If the sale of Scotland gets us some genuine pace them I'll go for it otherwise hope he stays at least until January.

Scotland is the 2nd best striker we got at the moment. Priskin is awful. If any club would like to buy Priskin let him go. Not fit to wear a town shirt.
Scotland is just what we need next to Chopra or on the bench.
Feel very positiv about the rest of the season and thought Sonko looked solid at the back. Would be sad to see Scotland go.

loves how everybody is on about keep Scotland and let Priskin go....if only it was that easy....if we don't have offers for Priskin how can we let him go, if we have offers for Scotland, we let him go and Priskin moves up the ladder...I have no doubt that the coaches are advising Priskin on what he needs to do to compete for a position in the team and not just have him figure it out.

He's been working very hard for a good cause, so we support him because it's a sign of resolve and pride in his determination to succeed. He'll get goals this season with this kind of attitude.

need attacking options and scotland is a good one as he proved saturday. we will no doubt get injuries as the season goes on and we need to keep strenght in depth. scotland is a proven goal scorer at this level. no brainer! only ship out if u buy another striker as good or better

keep him here, given the right guidance and chances he could find his old form from swansea, the goal he scored on saturday was typical jason scotland from the swansea days doing it most matches, he's big and strong and puts ina good shift, keep him and keep giving him the chances and I think he'll shine

hes good for 10-15 goals provided our midfield find his feet and not like the last 18 mths pumped up to his head being marked by 6ft + defenders.id keep him jewells looking for same from murphy and 15-20 from chopra so i like our front 3.now to priskin a tecnically gifted but lazy at times footballer i like him but unless he starts scoring for fun in the reserves i dont think jewell will entertain him,and ellington havent seen enough but not sure why he was brought probably to replace scotland but hes given them a headache after saturday and southampton games he was taken off in the latter but that was tactical he put himself around ok with no service as usual but with the midfield we have now there will be service so jewell has a difficult decision to make

scored a good goal saturday but always looks off the pace abnd carrying it a bit. We can also ensure a decent return as think he cost us around £750K?

In my opinion not the striker who will get anywhere near top 6.

We should keep Scotland as any team looking to go up should have a min of 5 strikers on the books, BUT maybe they will sell him to balance the books as I'm sure
loan players like Murphy are not on low wages. Playing him in a 442 with Chopra and with Murphy wide we would have a good forward line that can score goals.

On another note

Are any Ipswich fans going to the Australia v Thailand game on Friday night ?
at the Suncorp stadium, Brisbane? Tickets in the home end are only $30.00 (14 pounds in old money)

We should aim (if we can) to keep all our strikers at the club.
Chopra, Scotland, Ellington and Priskin are the only "Out and Out" strikers we have at the club anyway. Murphy can play attacking midfield and JET is multi-dimensional (and can even play in defence). How many strikers did Norwich have in the season they went up?
Lavery should get some serious experience out on-loan. Looks a truly great player at the moment but what is he playing against?

taylor15 - Couldn't agree more. Fickle fickle fans. Scores a goal and ha s decent game and he is up there again.

Scotland is quality and always has been the problem was a potentially a weight problem and also playing under Keane.

Ellington will come good but as it is ramamdam his fitness is going to be heavily affected (Look at Ba and Tiote for Newcastle)

How about we start judging a few months into the season.

I am sure if Leadbitter scored against Leeds he would be hailed as captain fantastic.

Come on guys and gals shape up.

We should keep Scotland imo, as someone else stated you need 5 strikers and he knows where the onion bag is, he did have fitness issues last season but looks as though he's worked hard pre-season, at present his attitude is bang on the money, funny how some posters are all of a suddenly now in favour of Scotland after previously slaughtering him.
