Thursday, 13th Oct 2011 08:48

Town full-back Carlos Edwards will learn his fate today when he appears for sentencing at South Suffolk Magistrates’ Court. On Monday, the 32-year-old pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Edwards, whose premature twins are being cared for in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, could potentially face time in jail.

If he has to do time it should be via community service as a cleaner at Addenbrookes so that he can be with his twins.

Don't get me wrong I feel sorry for him with regards to his wife and twins but I don't have any sympathy for people driving while banned or no insurance/tax/MOT whatever it was especially not footballers!!! Ur telling me that for the length of his ban he couldn't afford to hire himself a 24hour a day on call driver knowing the situation he was in? Footballers always think they are above the law and regardless of him being our player or not he shouldn't get away with it. I love ITFC to bits but none of our players should be above the law just because of "who they are"

Make him work at portman road for community service, the coaches would love having him about the play, maybe he could help out with fit fans etc

I have to say I agree with blakeyblue too, Edwards has been superb this season, but that doesn't excuse his behaviour.

Jail won't help his family who probably need him right now. Suspended sentence & take into account his very high income, and give him a massive fine

In the circumstances, one can only imagine that they will give him another hefty fine and extend his ban. With the mitigating circumstances, can't honestly see him getting a jail sentence. I've been wrong before !

Jail would be harsh.

Big fine, infact massive, community service and alot of it, but considering his circumstances not jail, would be very harsh

A six month suspended sentence, £10.000 fine, 10 year ban.

Smoke and mirrors in my opinion, he shouldn't of driven full stop. Lets hope the Magistrates got their porridge this morning, else he'll be needing his toothbrush the same as you or I would. Sad but true.

Driving whilst banned is it?
Well a fine should suffice but obviously try not to drive a car with out a license, do it again Carlos then the law will probably lock You up for taking the p.ss.

Legoman, you're spot on - unfortunately I think he'd be stopped next week driving to the hospital - d'oh.

His fine will not be a hefty one - in comparison to his pay - £1,000 max. Drop in the ocean to a footballer - even a young one.

Muhrens left foot .. I doubt jail is benefiting many of the families of those with relatives locked up who break the law .
That is why the majority take responsibility for our actions and dont put the lives of our loved ones under needless pressure by breaking the law for no other reason than stupidity and laziness to organise other transport .
Carlos time to grow up and look after your family and set an example to the already impressionable youth
