President to Open South Stand
Wednesday, 17th Oct 2001 10:23

UEFA president Lennart Johansson will officially open the South Stand before tomorrow's match with Helsingborgs IF. David Sheepshanks first met Johansson, a Swede, when he was on the Football League board and he was persuading UEFA to retain the UEFA Cup place for the Worthington Cup winners.

The new stand has been open for some while and is now officially known as the Greene King stand, although to many it will remain Churchman's. Chairman David Sheepshanks said: "We are very privileged and pleased he has accepted our invitation."

Yesterday sports minister Richard Caborn opened the new Academy training centre and was presented with a personalised Town shirt. Caborn, a Sheffield United fan, was said to be chuffed with the gift.
