Reading Keeper Loan Deal Reportedly Done
Reading Keeper Loan Deal Reportedly Done
Sunday, 8th Jan 2012 19:24

Town are reported to have completed the signing of Reading keeper Alex McCarthy on loan until the end of the season. News of the Blues’ interest in the 22-year-old first broke last night.

Manager Paul Jewell has previously said that the Blues are keen on signing an additional glovesman to compete with Arran Lee-Barrett and Richard Wright, former loanee David Stockdale having been recalled by Fulham last month.

Guildford-born 6ft 4in-tall England U21 cap McCarthy came through the Royals’ youth system and has had prior loan spells at Woking, Cambridge United, Team Bath, Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town and Brentford in addition to a six-game spell at Leeds in November and December last year.

Elsewhere, Doncaster have confirmed they've accepted a bid from Leicester for one-time Town target Billy Sharp.

I would say Warnock and Jewell are fairly close in managerial terms, both had good runs and both had bad. I'm not one for sackings and don't want Jewell out, but if the decision was made to bring Warnock in I would support it. However the
problem runs deeper than the team management, why after selling Wickham for
more than £8m was only £3m spent in transfer fees during the summer? Surely if we are a club with Premier League ambitions having received that amount of transfer income there should be at least £10m for player signings instead of relying on loans and frees. Someone has the idea this can be done on the cheap!

decent signing (hopefully), a talented young goalkeeper.

don't know what this means for lee-barrett though - he's a decent shot-stopper but has no command of his 18 yard box and you barely hear him communicating to his defence during the game.

now we need a couple of decent centre-backs who can also pass a ball because if sonko and delaney continue to play together we will become more and more of a long-ball team who can't defend!!!!

I did not say going down would mean we came back up.
A true fan would watch town in div 1 and would not slag the team off when its doing bad.
I do not like Warnock and what he stands for, so i would perfer Town in Div 1 with Jewell rather than Championship with Warnock.
I would like to see town playing good football and go to a match and be entertained.
Town will never be able to match the Man U Man City Arsenal Tottenham Chelsea Newcastle etc no matter how much money the club have, Wigan Swansea QPR WBA maybe.
Would like to see town have an exciting season than get hammered each week in the prem.
Since we have had all this money the football has been poor.
It seem when times are bad we call for the managers head Magilton Keane Jewell instead of getting behind them.
If most of the view on here are from true fans then i am glad to be classed as not being a true fan

Karlosfandangal - ' Town will never be able to match Man U, Man C, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle etc; - no matter how much money the Club has'.

What an absurd statement !! - you obviously totally NON AMBITIOUS person.

Maybe you are to young to remember - but this Club not only matched most of them - but exceeded them.
So why not again ?? - with the right people at the helm.

Who the hell wants to talk about League 1 ?? - certainly not a Club with our past history.

Have AMBITION, blended with REALITY is what it should be all about - or just give up (which may suit you better) - making statements like that.

You make a statement about some one you dont know

I do remember the those great years i was one of the away fans who watch Brazils overhead kick in the 2-1 win over forest.

The difference is money. if Blackburn come bottom this season they will get £80 million over the next four years as a min.
Those years you could get Muhren Thijssen and Mariner for less than we paid for Scotland.
Wark left Ipswich because we refused to pay him £1000 a week.
We now pay Bullard around £20000 a week for a pay at the end of his career and if you want a Carroll or a Torres its £35 -£50 million.
You have teams like Sunderland Everton Aston Villa who can not match the big teams and they have been at it for years.

Please comment on my posts but please do not asume you know me thank you

Karlosfandangal - YOU made the statement yourself - and IF you read my post CORRECTLY you will see I said:- ' MAYBE you are too young to remember'.
You said / and or indicated the rest in your post.

That in no way indicates that I know you, or have any desire to - for that matter thank you.

What I do accept - is money, and non Football people - have entered and ruined the once great game.

I cannot see any value in Warnock, Billy Davies or any of the other failures who are consistently named - and yes, I might well include PJ in that list - but if we need to start again it is with someone who has not been mentioned before. The good, out of work managers - are not out of work.

h32 - you are now extremely uninteresting. I think that you have always been that way.

BuryBlue77 is the only post worth reading out of this whole news story. The rest of you are clearly un-educated morons. Rant over.

Neither Warnock or Bruce - thanks! anyway I can't see Jewell being sacked before the seasons out (although he should be).

jas1972 - doubt whether you can see any value in anything - so don't rate your comment or indeed VALUE it. Adios.
