Priskin Makes Town Exit
Priskin Makes Town Exit
Tuesday, 17th Jan 2012 15:50

Striker Tamás Priskin has left the Blues after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. The Hungarian international’s terms were up at the end of the season with Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz and Millwall said to be interested in signing him during the January transfer window.

Town chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "We have today terminated Tamás's contract by mutual agreement. I would like to wish him every success over the rest of his career."

Priskin added: "It has been a privilege to play for a club of Ipswich Town's standing and I would like to wish the players and all involved at the club all the best for the future."

The frontman joined Town from Watford for £1.7 million in the summer of 2009 and scored nine goals in 35 starts and 25 sub appearances, the last against Blackpool on Saturday.

Priskin's most memorable moment with the Blues was scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 Carling Cup semi-final first leg victory over Arsenal at Portman Road.

The 25-year-old also spent loan spells with QPR, Swansea and Derby while a Town player.

Jewell gave him the chance to prove he wanted to be here with the sub on Saturday.

He has had 2 years and 50 games and really has not done it

Should free up some cash for another strikers wages, someone more prolific, which shouldn't be too hard

i watched priskin play for hungary once and he seemed such a different player to how he played for town.ah well ,that'll free up some money on the wage bill.

Why on earth did we bring him on on Saturday then. That now looks an even more baffling substitution. For me, it goes down in legend as one of the strangest selection decisions ever - along with Mark Fish...

I reckons Priskin coming on on Saturday was either to promote interest from other clubs if there was any, or give Priskin a last chance to shine. Neither happened, so got rid of. At least you can say he was given a chance.

Is this Ronan Murray's chance

Don't know if anyone has already said this but Chris Hutchison was doing his nut at Priskin very shortly after he came on. Priskin was given a big chance on sat to prove himself, selected ahead of chops, and unlike dury and Carson, smith and hyam he threw it back in our faces. I sit britannia upper right on the 6 yard line and Priskin was mostly hanging offside, lazy and not chasing anything, head down and not playing like he had 10 mins to prove something. When a quick throw was on his head was down and Hutchison went absolutely mental at him. I think he almost subbed the sub. That was it for him. Tallented yes, deserves to wear the shirt NO!

Many of the 60 comments so far relate to 'freeing up wage bill' Not sure this is so, a mutual consent termination, as with ingamarson, usually means a pay up of salary to the summer when the contract expires so still no better off than 6 monthes time? This time he really does get money for no effort!

All in all, yet another great bit of business done by the club. You couldn't make it up, could you?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Dang it!!! I liked Priskin!!!! Well thats like £2.5 - 3 million pounds wasted of Marcus Evans' money . . . . . . . . . . would rarther we kept him and got rid of Ellington, because at least Priskin does something when he came on . . . . . . . .

@Martus - you better be taking the mick...
Priskin is awful. An horrendous player who is league 1 at best. He lacked commitment, desire and hunger to even get the ball and was sheer lazy!

Sod the 1.7m we spent, at least he's gone.

Billy Sharp is in talks already, i can feel ittttt

I wonder just how bad a player has to be for some people to accept he should go? Tamas Priskin has been a pathetic footballer for Ipswich, and also for QPR, Swansea and Derby who had the misfortune to take him on loan. The £1.7M fee and probably £1M+ wages has cost the club dearly, not least that it was effectively part-funded by the sale of Jordan Rhodes. This was the worst bit of business that ITFC have done for many years.

So, let's count up Roy Keane's signings that have left for NOTHING: Fulop £1.0M, Healy £0.1M, Hourihane £0.1M, Priskin, £1.7M...that's £2.9M so far just on transfer fees and counting...

Not given a fair chance !

Hard to say whether he was really given a fair shot - strikers need to be playing to score. However, have to admit that he didn't show enough application to warrant a longer stay.

Thanks for that goal against Arsenal anyway matey - made my night.

His appearance at the weekend was obviously his last chance and he blew it, but that's now the fourth player we've 'sacked' this season, don't know of any club that's terminated the contracts of so many players in such a short period of time.

Will go down in history as one of the laziest players to ever don the blue shirt!
