Jewell Confirms Wallace Fee Agreed
Jewell Confirms Wallace Fee Agreed
Friday, 27th Jan 2012 16:39

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that Falkirk have accepted a bid from the Blues for central defender Murray Wallace. Town, Huddersfield and Brighton have all agreed a fee of £300,000 plus add-ons with the Bairns.

Jewell told the club site: "We have had a bid accepted by Falkirk for the lad. I spoke to [Falkirk manager] Steven Pressley yesterday and he's a lad that we have been watching for a while.

"We face a lot of competition for him. I know Brighton are keen and there are two or three other clubs as well.

"He's got a big game for Falkirk against Celtic on Sunday [Scottish League Cup semi-final] and then he will be coming down to see us. There is a long way to go yet but we are in there fighting."

Wallace held talks with Brighton yesterday and he is also set to meet with Huddersfield after Sunday’s match.

We understand that reports last night claiming that Charlton had also had an offer accepted were premature but the Addicks remain interested, while Swansea, Norwich and Newcastle are amongst a number of other clubs to have been keeping an eye on the 19-year-old.

Town, the Seagulls and the Terriers have all agreed that Wallace will return to Falkirk on loan for the remainder of the season if and when a deal is done.

Meanwhile, the Blues are continuing talks with Portsmouth regarding the triple bid with a deal now appearing unlikely to be done before Monday at the earliest, while we understand Town have decided against making any further offers to Crewe for midfielder Nick Powell.

I'd let John Wark do the negotiations because he probably wont be able to understand PJ.

What the papers are saying

Daily Star
Portsmouth are set to sell Dave Kitson, Joel Ward and Jason Pearce to Ipswich in a combined £2million deal.

Crystal Palace have tabled a £400,000 offer for Ipswich defender Damien Delaney.

Mirror
Ipswich are set to beat Championship rivals Blackpool and sign Crawley striker Tyron Barnett in a £800,000 deal.

Do they know something we don't? :-)

If football lasted 70 to 80 mins. we would be near or in the playoffs now,, and that is with the squad we have now.
BUT it does last 90 mins.+ and we have got to cope with that ???

Interesting that Jewell has decided to mention this, kinda putting pressure on Clegg to get terms agreed... could this be a sign that Jewell realises Clegg needs 'managing' ?

Oh to have Sheepshanks back!

I'm not averse to us signing potential but this change in transfer policy suggests to me that our academy is going to be wound up. Rather than develop our own we will try to sign promising young players from other clubs. Just 1 or 2 every transfer window would be enough to get continuity. We would only need 1 or 2 to break into the first team every 2 years to make it viable. Plus, if anyone really came on, the inevitable re-sale would more than cover costs.

In the meantime our relentless drift to League One continues.

"We're hoping to have a couple of new faces in by the time we play Birmingham. It will be difficult to do anything before then because we have the FA Cup game to focus on first.
But we're talking to clubs and players about coming here and we've made a couple of enquiries. Now we are seeing if we can get something sorted with those deals."

Don't get why people are upset about us trying to sign a promising youngster and build for the future?

Yes we have problems right now, but if we don't manage to bring anyone in, the players we have should be experienced enough to sort themselves out and dig us out of the position we are currently in...

We are the lepers of the division.
A footballer's life is short. Why come here?

We have the players, let's get on with it.

Nothing is going to happen .... other than maybe a couple of has been loans after the window has closed. I really can't see any of the players mentioned wanting to come here.

What you see is what we've got - God help us all :(

I know he is only 19, but 2 Goals in 19 apps - is he really any good - even for the future? We've sold better younger strikers haven't we?

lol - ok - realise my blunder - (see my post above). Thought I read he was a striker, so wondered why all the fuss.

No point offering more money to the club for this guy given the break clause as it will make no difference to which club he signs for.

Oh dear, more of the same non-signings.
We will do what we usually do. Gamble on Portsmouth and fail, fail to sign this League 2 defender and then scramble around looking for anybody on a loan or a free on the last day.
We are hopelessly predictable.
Regardless of what happens in the transfer market, lets all get behind the team on Tuesday. If we can get 3 points against West Ham it will be massive (especially if the others below us have a bad day!).
ALB, Edwards, Sonko, Delaney, Cresswell, Hyam, Drury, Bullard, Martin, JET, Scotland.
Think we can really show West Ham what coming to Fort Portman Road means.
COYB!

Portsmouth look like they may get rescued according to tomorrow's papers so there would be little point in them selling Hendersen, Ward and Pearce if that were the case.
Back to square one PJ.
There are a few defenders available on frees, some of which are younger than 30. Michael Eckersley had his contract at Burnley terminated yesterday. Better than Sonko, Smith or Delaney.

Have trawled through various different sites and we do have other options.
Steven Kinniburgh (22 years old, recently released from Oxford Utd so free)
Eckersley has been snapped up by Toronto FC so its too late for him.
Tom Cadmore (24 years old, available for 100,000 from Barrow City)
Jordan Watson (Sunderland. Costs about 100,000)
That would sort out our defence (gives competition to places anyways).
Kazuyoshi Miura is available for free from Yokohama FC in Japan. He'd definately get a work permit and though he's older (42) he could do a good job for us alongside Scotland. He's a legend in Japanese Football and would give the younger players a boost. Experience counts in a relegation showdown.
Rory Fallon (about 500,000 from Aberdeen). Has only scored 2 goals in Scottish Football and the club are looking to move him on.
Fallon, Scotland, Miura and Chopra gives good variation up front.

Jimmy Juan is available from Chesterfield at the end of the season. Only 28, we should get him in.

A player from the Scottish League?? Oh, dear....

DiamondGezzer added 08:34 - Jan 28
oldmansblues :- I take it from your post you haven't seen him play. Not the finished article in my book, but certainly could be a good signing [ as everybody has said ] for the future.
